    • @@thedoctor649Situated near sea level, at 16 meters above, a network of canals and drainage systems could be feasible. However, the current cost would be exorbitant, as it would necessitate the demolition of some existing roads and buildings. Typically, canals and drainage systems are integrated into the initial city planning, rather than after a city has been established.

      @so9487@so948713 күн бұрын
    • It's too close to sea level for naturally draining flood canals. Most of these Gulf cities are built on intertidal flats. A more effective (and more characteristic for these insanely rich oil states) method might be a storm drain network that dumps into massive underground cisterns farther inland, which they can draw from later for water in the summer.

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and cost $130 billion to make but it is not connected to Dubai's sewage system and so every day a platoon of trucks queue up to remove its human waste, they thought that it was cheaper then building a sewage connector line. The plan was to finally connect it to their sewer/storm drainage system next year in 2025. The tanker trucks in the video are the sewer trucks draining the flood waters.

  • Problem for Arabia is that originally there was normal top soil and hills. Over millions of years that was washed away. The land level is almost same as sea level. Concrete city means land drainage is non existent. The minor drainage system could not cope, so overflowed. The work to fix this with new drains and pumps is costly, and there will be more regular monsoon rains. So many billions need to be spent.
