Just WOW! So beautiful and different. Without the melted top layer do you think it would be possible to hold the edges that well? I have limited experience - mixed snow/pure ice, and on the ice it was impossible to edge hard with ski.

to commenter below---this surface is not melted, it is freshly frozen black ice. (it looks black because there was no air entrained in the water as it froze. It is probably a couple of inches thick. One can skate on remarkably thin ice if you keep moving. The sounds that you hear are unique to thin black ice.
My mind went Aaaaaa ice sound aaaaaaa nice aaaaa wooooow aaaaaa incredible aaaaa and than at 1:45 ..what..nooo...nooo...where...no...did he just did it nooo it is impossible aaaa you just open secret door of higher understanding of physic and blow my mind... All together...PERFECT!

Someone must tell guys about ice skates - most convenient and dedicated sport gear for ice.
I'm far from an expert on winter sports but guessing thin ice, possibly better weight distribution with skis at the cost of some performance.

Skates are a bit too unstable, even tour skates with a 50cm blade and alpine bindings and boots. Ice hockey skates are very unstable
1:45 is cool trick, turning your kite 360 around you. Can't do that on water!
