    • No matter how you feel personally (and believe me, I think he's the greatest athlete ever), he just didn't play either sport very long. Last season Zeke Elliott led the NFL in rushing. He ran the ball over 300 times in 16 games. Bo also played in a 16 game season. The most rushes Bo ever had was 175 and he never topped 1,000 yds. The most MLB games he played in was 135. He played 6 MLB seasons and 4 NFL. He topped 100 RBI's once. Had he played only football, he'd probably have three 1,000 yd seasons. But, he'll tell you himself, he wished he would have never played in the NFL....Obviously.

  • One thing about Bo Jackson I have to remind you all is that he woke up this way. He did not practice 80 hours, he did not even practice 1 hour IN HIS career. He did not take steroids or was on some super high tech diet. He woke up every day and played pro athletics at an all star level and still kicking their asses simply by waking up and putting on the uniform. I cannot say it enough. He IS the athlete of our century and perhaps even more...

    @thedevilsadvocate3710@thedevilsadvocate37105 жыл бұрын
    • This is inaccurate. Bo practiced with the team. What he didn't do was any weight lifting or strength training. He was naturally that strong and fast, which is literally mind blowing.

    • Indeed. I was never a world class athlete, but I was an excellent fighter that cross trained with the football players and sprinters at the University of South Carolina, where I attended. Anyway, when I was at my athletic peak in 2003, at age 28, I weighed 228lbs with a 32 inch waist (6'2"). When I approached my strength (225lbs for 32 reps on the incline bench) and speed (sub 11.0 sec 100 meter sprint) thresholds, it felt like my muscles were too strong for my skeletal frame. When I'd throw a left hook, it felt as if my rotator cuff was being shredded, and when I threw a Thai round kick once, it felt as if my pelvis was ripping away from my hip flexors. It's no coincidence that my last competitive year was in 2004, at age 29. To think I had to train with elite athletes to get into the shape I acquired when, by all accounts, Bo Jackson didn't train very often, at all.

Being heavier does not help in sprinting, more weight means slower strides, more muscular resistance, and quicker exhaustion. The fact that Bo was that fast at that weight is absolutely extraordinary. You don't have to be a fucking prick to someone because he dared to share a thought.

  • Bo Jackson: a victim of his own power. I remember the orthopedic surgeon/physiatrist that worked on Bo being interviewed. The injury he sustained was virtually identical to those that thoroughbred race horses suffer when their hock joints are damaged from the force of their hooves planting. The sheer power of Bo planting his foot to break the tackle transferred up his leg and essentially fractured/shattered the bone in his hip socket. Truly sad, because he was the best natural athelete, even better than Dione, one person that even Barry would have had a hard time catching.

He was great but not that great. The only stat working in his favor in yards per carry. To say he would've bee better than Walter Payton and Barry Sanders is a long stretch considering their consistency and dominance. Could he have maybe been one of the best? Of course. • If only those two split the rb duties equally. Bo might not have gotten hurt and a superbowl win would be likely.

      @hughjass5756@hughjass57564 жыл бұрын
    • @Tee Snacks Yeah after Bo was injured. But Marcus wanted out because Al had been treating him like crap ever since a year or so after they last won the superbowl. Can't blame Marcus for leaving. I think Al was going senile since it was totally unwarranted. Marcus still had it in him.

      @hughjass5756@hughjass57564 жыл бұрын
  • Everyone says "he would have been the greatest (had he not gotten injured). This man was the greatest anyway. The most incredible and versatile athlete to ever play in professional sports. Yes, he would have annihilated records and everything, but just because he got injured it doesn't negate that he was the best of all time.

    @rpsnider85@rpsnider856 жыл бұрын
    • @sha broussard He played 4 yrs in the nfl and 8yrs in mlb(years after his injury). To play at that skill level easily contends him as the greatest athlete of all time. His football numbers were ridiculous. Immaculate fielder and power hitter.

      @brickswisher7672@brickswisher76724 жыл бұрын
    • @sha broussard I don't think athletic ability has anything to do longevity. Deon's skill set is not comparable to Jackson's. To be the greatest at a sport takes the numbers, sure.

      @brickswisher7672@brickswisher76724 жыл бұрын
    • @sha broussard Hindsight is 20/20. In 1986 you wouldn't pick Deon over Bo. I'm talking about athleticism. These discussions aren't about absolutes. There isn't only one. Wilt was a phenom, for sure, as Bo, natural strength and ability. MJ was no where near the physical specimen of either but his mental prowess made him great, and he made his teamates better, which Wilt did to maybe a lesser degree, and wouldn't say Bo had that. I'm speaking of pure athleticism and ability, not greatness of a sport.

      @brickswisher7672@brickswisher76724 жыл бұрын
    • @sha broussard Barry is a GOAT for sure. Again I'm not talking about the greatest in a sport. Athletic ability is about the moment. Bo excelled in college and at multiple sports, any sport he tried really. No one would remember lots of greats in a sport if they had careers cut short. But everyone remembers Bo not only for his accomplishments, for his potential, which is athletic ability. I'm not saying you're wrong, I think we're arguing different perspectives.

      @brickswisher7672@brickswisher76724 жыл бұрын
    • @sha broussard Bo ran 4.1 40, 10.39 100m, 6' 9 high jump, 48' 9 triple, and 50' 1 shot put. Was drafted out of high school by Yanks. In H.S. he won two 100m an decathlon state titles, threw multiple no hitters, and played most snaps on both sides while handling all kicking duties. He's in college football HOF. all-star for nfl and mlb. Career avg per 162 is 30+ HR, 80R, and 100RBI, that includes 3yrs of post injury at bats. His football stats are without question, 6.6 ypc in college, 5.4 NFL. He didnt have the accomplishment of Wilt, but that's not the discussion. Clearly Bo's ability matches up, some better, some less, across the board. Again, I'm speaking of ability, not career statistics, obviously injury prevented him from being the greatest player.

Certain athletes have made me question if I really saw something happen before, like an Allen Iverson crossover, or an Anderson Silva feint, or a Larry Fitzgerald catch. However, no one - before or since, has ever made me question if my eyes were actually functioning properly. But Bo did. He was the human equivalent of Superman 35 years ago (sorry Cam). And look, anyone who can cause Neon Deion to be self-effacing must be a goddamned legend.
