    • A few years ago a sequal to War of the Worlds was written, sanctioned by the H.G.Wells estate. It takes place in the in the late teens and early 1920s. In the original the Martians were farmers. Now they've sent the military!! In the meantime we are using some of their technology to fight back. A really great book!

    • Keep this "history" alive. That your grandfather survived is a miracle. Many soldiers that did make it through were never the same. I've spoken in length with soliers from this war that lived to the events of the second world war, which they never believed could happen after 1913-1917s events. How soon we forget. When I spoke with the elder George Pal, one of the survivors, he comented he was glad they didn't have "the bomb" back then and knows had they the option, they would have used that fearsome doomday weapon on the first "nest" of the Martians. On speaking these word, he pulled up his pajama top to show the scars one of the tentacles had captured him in its grasp until he was able to take his bayonet from his belt and hacked away at it in the mud, possibly helping spread tetanus and colrera throughout one of the ships after dragging it's wounded appendage into the war machine in which it fought our forces. He pulled a drag from his cigarette and I watched as his eyes watched the horrors in front of him again.

  • My great grandpa fought in the great Martian war, he was part of a bomber plane crew. thing is, a lot of bombers didn’t come back from bombing raids because they were huge, slow, and not very sturdy. he and 22 other bombers were tasked with attacking a large enemy camp holed up somewhere in south London and take them out so friendly forces could take back a major munitions plant they had captured. anyways when they got there they were met with unexpected force and one tore off his right wing after he dropped his payload and the plane went down i a field. he was the only survivor of the crash and had to make his way back to friendly lines without getting caught, he doesn’t like to talk about his journey home though but when he came back he found out that the raid was a huge success

    • @@shadow7988 Well considering the fact that those Martians are apparently capable of space flight but still suffer losses is quite opposite of believable, just imagine today's day modern forces against WW1 era weaponry, literally no match and the invaders would be much more advanced then that. With the Los Angeles movie you mentioned it does make sense though since the aliens were outcast pirates basically.

  • I seen this series and it is incredible, a great mock documentary. I think there us a facinating horror in showing it filmed in early 1900s style and of course the actors portraying the survivors. How they tell the story with such believability, especially the old woman, you can see her hatred. And of course the young Canadian artillaryman filled with both the memories of terror and of grief and regret of losing his wife. It fills in the war of the worlds motifs with a interruption of WW1. All in all, a good watch.

    @niverian7789@niverian7789 Жыл бұрын
    • Oh my yes! The actors who portray the survivors are what puts this over the top. The mature matron (can't call her old because whe went through hell during the invasion) was just fantastic! The anger when she sees the actual alien and the power she portrayed whn the alien looked at he and showed fear! Great writing and acting for the smallest budget. I wish som of the smalll produtctions could be awarded in some manner.

    • @@OldGeezer55 and you know smaller productions seem to have more of a memorable impact and more thought provoking materials than most modern big budget films and shows. It's a shame they get overlooked as the hidden gems that they are. I utterly cannot watch Speilburg's version of it, the Pendragon version of WotW is accurate but rather boring though the mock documentary version I hear is decent. The only other version I would recommend is Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation of War of the Worlds, that and a really good stop motion animation using the Orson Wells radio drama. I would love to see a book accurate major production but I doubt anyone would make it, much less do it right.

    • @@OldGeezer55 I have the VHS version of it. While accurate, the acting feels fake, a tad cheesy and sounds more melodramatic. But that is my opinion. At least it is somewhat better than the acting in the speilburg work. The effects were good but the acting and setting was all off.

    • It's a travesty that nobody has ever made a decent movie or TV series of War of the Worlds in the proper period setting. The BBC tried to a few years ago, but rewrote the entire story so that it could have a female lead, and completely changed the ending for the same agenda.
