I respect Richie for not rocking his jaw for being so disrespectful. And the disrespect is only coming from the step dad. I couldn't have toxic people like that around. I met my real father when I was 28 for the first time and my dad felt betrayed but eventually he understood that family is family regardless. My mom didn't tell me til I was 12 that my dad wasn't my real dad and that hurt but I have a relationship with my dad and my biological father and at the end of the day for my happiness they put their differences aside for me. And continue to. But when you truly love someone and want what's best you have to respect their choices regardless. I pray you are able to have a great relationship with the two people who created you and maybe the one who raised you as well. Prayers. Mad respect to Richie for supporting you cuz at the end of the day that's all he wants is you to be happy and support you. Hopefully the step dad will grow up and respect your decisions. I didn't see my biological dad from 6 years old and i left to find him when i was 17 my mom told me if i went to find my dad i was no longer allowed to come back to her house so i told her good bye. So i came to South Carolina to find him it was the best feeling when i found him. He is still your dad. My step father was all for me finding my dad matter a fact my biological dad is the one that gave me away when i got married

If I may say, at the end of the day Gel is a grown woman now. She is 100% allowed to make her own decisions about everything in her life. Everything from the clothes she wears to whomever she wants to be a part of her life is HER decision & hers only. She should not be guilt tripped by anyone about her decisions that she makes for her own life. Honestly, that makes me so upset that anyone who thinks doing that to her is ok. So many people grow up without one or even both of their biological parents & no matter how many times they're told of all the bad things about them, the child in them still wants to find out for themselves. Which is 100 percent ok. Because sometimes, what they've been told all their life isn't 100% true. Sometimes it's the other person's grudge against them that fuels what they tell about them. Not always the case, but sometimes. Although I don't understand why anyone would feel betrayed, if your mom wants to be upset about you wanting to meet your biological father then that's fine. But that's on her to deal with within herself. It's not okay for her or your stepdad to guilt you & try to make you feel shitty for wanting to & taking the step to meet your biological dad. You being curious & wanting to do that is perfectly normal & okay. I don't know how you truly feel about your meeting with him, but what i heard him tell you lined up with a lot of what your mom told you when you called her to tell her about it. He said he had a drinking problem & that he wasn't the best person back then. He said he did try & come see you. He said he did call and check on you. As often as your mom thought he should have been, no. But not enough isn't the same as not at all. Maybe I could see it differently it you were like 13 running away to live with him & then switching up on your mom & your stepdad. But that's not what you did. You, in your 20s, with the support of one of the people you love most in your life, decided to contact, track down & meet your father. There's a HUGE difference between the two situations. I noticed when you were on the phone with your mom, & brought a couple things up about your mom that didn't maybe show her in the best light, she even said herself that she wasn't perfect & it wasn't a perfect marriage. But he didn't trash talk your mom. He said so many good things about her. Yes, maybe he only did minimal things for you when you were younger. But not very many people even get that. But the fact that he did make some effort & that he has pictures of you hanging up in his house should speak volumes. That, in my opinion, reflects someone who knew they weren't capable, at that time, to be who you needed them to be. But he still loved you & thought about you often. And maybe he didn't put in more effort because he didn't think he was worthy of your time & affection after all these years. But, I think like richie said, the past is the past. All that matters now is whether or not he maintains an effort to be in your life from here on out, if you want him to be. And I feel like it is incredibly disrespectful for your stepdad to show up unannounced to further guilt trip you about your decision & then blatantly disrespect your significant other. Especially when in the conversation you had with your mom about all of this, she said it was your decision. And that she would never keep you from your dad. I just want you to know Gel that, you are not wrong or disrespectful or spiteful or hateful for wanting to meet & get to know your biological father. ❤

Any child who has one or 2 absent parents deserve to get answers and will search for answers. Alot of children face lifelong trauma because they didn't get to meet their mother or father. My grandmother is 84 and not being able to see her mother in her entire life still affects her today, because she has no pictures of her, don't know what she looks like and can't because she passed away decades ago. So I say live life with no regrets .
