Some people deal with pain differently. Even though your step dad was wrong for getting drunk and not showing up to dinner was wrong, but his actions were just his way of dealing with his problem. Try to understand what he is going through at that very moment. You going to Pennsylvania and getting away to be alone was your way of dealing with the way you felt, so again everyone deals with pain differently.
