  • Fun fact: The creator of the Cars movies has said in past interviews that there were once humans in the Cars universe, but they were all killed at one point, possibly in a war between humans and cars. That's why cars still have door handles, steering wheels etc. They're vestigial organs left over from a time before they shook off the yoke of their oppressors.

Sitting just underneath is a vintage fuel injection system instead of a traditional carburetor, likely that particular set up wasn't running a paper air cleaner; it had only wire mesh screen on top of the fuel injection box. This type of fuel injection was common on supercharged boats as well. Very period-correct!

  • I can explain the Phase 4 head - Where the US had "Stage 1/2/3" mods, Australians tended to use "Phase" instead, because some Australian car companies tended to use "Phase" in their performance marketing and naming, like the famous Ford Falcon GTHO Phase 3 and Phase 4(Of which, only four were built, and only one was sold production). A Phase 4 Head, in that era of Australian parlance, would be a heavily modded, practically bespoke part built purely for performance with no compromises. Like, the kind of shit you'd put on something built from the ground up for racing, like a V8 Supercar.

    • Actually in reference to the gtho phase was the generation. This would imply that it had xa gtho (phase 4) heads which were not twin overhead cam. The engine in this was a 351 clevo and for the first movie the blower was fake. The second movie the blower was functional and that is a Scott mechanical injection system that was used. You would also not use nitro as a fuel for a street/pursuit car. The description given while some parts are correct others are inaccurate like Megan fox describing the Transformers engine

  • VERY IMPORTANT FOR MAD MAX: Phase IV was part of the concept of the Baturst GTHO project, which started with the Ford Falcon XW, (Phase I-II) then went into the XY Phase III, which took a 5.8L Ford Cleveland 351 V8 and race built it to over 350 HP. The XA Ford Falcon GTHO Phase IV project, which saw the car top speeds said to be at 160MPH, was SCRAPPED by the government after only 4 official cars were made (3 racing 1 private). However, because these cars were for Homologation, over 300 racing engines and gear boxes and so on were made for public consumption. Ford was stuck with these parts and "SNUCK" them out the back door to car dealers and private racers. The Ford Falcon XB GT that Max had (In story), was ordered with these racing built Phase IV heads, and mostly likely engine and was said to likely be at 400HP without the blower (Which yes I know is fake).

  • Here’s something weird about the cars franchise Cars 1: heartfelt story of a previously obnoxious race car who falls in love with a Porsche (who wouldn’t) and sacrifices winning the final race to help Dinoco after a really bad crash. Cars 3 revolves around an obnoxious electric car who sees McQueen as something of the past and that his days of being the worlds number 1 are over. The plots for Cars 1 and 3 are your normal, run of the mill animated movie. With a climax etc etc. Now, Cars 2: long story short, Proffesser Zündaap (one villain of the story) uses “cameras” which were actually laser rays, to blow the engine (heart/brain) of the car on live television broadcasted to the whole world. One more thing is that the car that Professor Zundaap is based off is a Zundaap Janus produced in Germany just after world war 2. The pope is also present in the film meaning that religion and even war is in the Cars universe.

  • I actually thought the original The Fast and The Furious was the best movie of the series specifically because they either intentionally didn’t take it too seriously and made it pretty silly, or because it was just stupid. Either way, it was silly and fun to watch. I remember actually laughing out loud when the floorboard of the Dodge Neon-powered Eclipse fell out because of too much NAWZZZ. The later ones, they tried to take themselves too seriously and they just got worse and worse and worse. I am a real (well, former) mechanic too and when you’re watching a car movie, you pretty much have to forget everything you’ve ever known about cars. I find that I have to do that when I talk to a significant number of car people too.

  • Tuning the fuel map is spot on. Data logging is used to tune every millisecond your injectors fire(and fix nasty holes). A delay box can be used for many different things. It's used to time the nitrous with the rpm where I believe it'll give me the performance I'm looking for without me physically having to activate it. Also your delay controllers can shoot the nitrous at different increments for things like spooling the turbo up at lower rpm's to get rid of the turbo lag and then shoot again at the other end to give you the best power to run the time your trying to achieve. Shoot the nitrous at the wrong time, and you can kiss your engine bye or def hurt your chances of running a consistent time. Nitrous isn't very forgiving for a non-built engine but for a built engine you have a lot of different scenarios to play with. A nasty hole means your prob running lean or rich and need to adjust the fuel. Some people have full control when the fuel solenoid and nitrous solenoid open so they can actually fill the gap by the nitrous controller. But most people just fill the nasty hole by either adding or subtracting injector pulse rate. Some nitrous systems are "dry" systems which have basically no control of fuel but "wet" systems have fuel added along with the nitrous to increase the amount of power without running a lean condition. I have 2 injectors per cylinder and use one of them primarily to tune. If I dont get the results I'm looking for, I mess with the nitrous timing. And in Transformers, I really wasn't paying much attention to the car, so it didn't bother me when she said carb and not injection, but I think that was the point. Of course, once I found out how she is in person, I got turned off.

    @okhotrodder@okhotrodder Жыл бұрын
  • What Jesse said about the fuel injectors and the hole in the fuel map is 100% correct. He mentioned increasing the injector pulls by a millisecond but that's usually adjusted by percentage called pulse width modulation or pwm. Then he implies once he adjusts that he can tune the NOS timer. Also, Matthew McConaughey didn't say Edelbrock headers. He said Edelbrock intake.

  • I literally watch Cars every day because it’s my two year old’s favorite movie. I have a whole lot of thoughts. - at the race track in the opening scene, the women’s bathroom has a long line and the men’s is short. So they’ve obviously established that there’s at least two genders, but also their ability to relieve themselves quickly is impacted by this. - because cars don’t have hands, forklifts are everywhere in this world. Are they a lower class to cars? They’re always serving the cars’ needs while the cars do basically nothing, do they enjoy working and being a servant to the cars? This is extra complicated since tractors are basically considered livestock in the movie with no cognitive ability. So there’s obviously some degree of established class system - lightning McQueen goes into Doc Hudson’s garage and discovers he has three piston cups. What’s in those cups? Wrenches. HOW CAN THEY USE WRENCHES WITHOUT FINGERS AND THUMBS!?!? - in Cars 2, the villains are lemons. Who intentionally makes sentient creatures lemons? Also, it’s been established parts, motors, and even body panels can be swapped. So why is no one doing anything to help them? It’s like being able to give a paralyzed person a new set of legs, but making a conscious decision not to - they show small cars as children. Does that mean their body, frames, and engines grow over time? How does that work with the aforementioned ability to swap parts and such? - Older cars are slower, while newer carscars trend to get better and better. So either they’re evolving very quickly or they’re manufactured. I’m leaning towards them being manufactured. if that’s the case why are they manufactured so inefficiently? Cars were built to carry people. There are no people. If they’re only purpose is to drive themselves places, why are they still shaped to carry people, which obviously slowed them down I have many more thoughts on the matter and am open to being a consultant for you guys. Again, every day for the last 6 months I’ve watched at least one of the Cars movies, many days I’ve watched it several times.

    • 1. The forklifts uses wrenches, in Planes 2 a forklift fixes Dusty with a wrench if i remember correctly. 2. Engines can not be swapped, if they could then McQueen wouldve swapped his engine in Cars 3. In Cars 2 Miles Axelrod never converted himself to an electric car while claiming he did, he kept the original engine. 3. Cars are manufcaturered, behind Doc at the scene in the courthouse in Cars 1 you can see a picture behind him of a factory, thats where they come from. The cars in the movies also never say stuff like "thank god", they say "thank the manufacturer".

    • @@TheGamingNorwegian the fact that ppl believed that he had swapped his engine implies not only that it's possible to swap your engine but also to swap pretty much everything as a swap from gas to electric is much more than just an engine swap

    • Maybe in the area where their used to be a cockpit there is their organic parts (like for example, their eyes probably extend farther back than just the windshield) and it's probably not that easy to just change the entire shape since that would also require changing the parts inside. I remember I heard somewhere that one of the writers had confirmed that inside the cockpit area is where their brain and stuff was which is why they never open their doors. Also my question is that why would it take longer for the girls to use the bathroom than the boys? Based on the scene in Cars 2 where Mater uses the bathroom they just drive onto the toilet and that's it, so what would take the girls longer than the boys? Also another question, what do the cars use their trunks for? In the entirety of the movie I never saw a single car open their trunk. And there's no way that it's something like with the organic parts bc then where would pickup trucks have them

  • Cars: Montgomery (Lightning) McQueen was born in 1977, meaning that he was 29 by the time "Cars" released in 2006 (which is in itself a little odd considering he's supposed to be a rookie in the cup series; however, there are plenty of drivers who enter at older ages in real-life, so it's not that crazy). Sally, Lightning's love interest, is a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera, making her 4 at the time of the films release. Summary: Lightning is entering his rookie year at an odd age...and also happens to be a pedophile (He is 29 in a relationship with a 4 year old).

It was essentially a Cleveland 351 with 4v heads and high comp I believe. If you want to check out some cool Aussie motoriing history check out what you can about the phase 4 GT Falcon. There's only about 2 or 3 of them left and they're currently worth millions.

  • Good stuff DM, keep it up. Looks like you're catching some heat for misreading the Bumblebee engine in here. I wouldn't have known either way, but what I do know is: 1) Even with clear view of some components, that wasn't an angle that lends itself to %100 certainty. 2) In the car world there's always going to be someone ready to outnerd/outgearhead you, even if you (or they) are wrong. 3) It's a movie clip, not a customer. It's not like he's filling out billing paperwork on an engine after seeing the hood open from across the shop. 4) Most importantly, if it's custom built and you're not the one that built it, you know less than you think you do. I've gone to plenty of car shows and watched plenty of self-proclaimed experts make themselves look ridiculous by making assumptions based on other components just to realize that 'custom' means _anything goes_ and much of what you thought you knew no longer applies. If you made a mistake here Donut, have a slice of oopsie pie and call it a day. For those who pointed out that those are Webers, here's your smart cookie. Unless of course a better look at the hollywood engine would show that it's actually a different custom setup that looks a lot like everything you're familiar with but actually isn't, but nobody who custom builds cars, or engines, or has a film to shoot would ever make anything deceiving on purpose, right?...
