In this episode of BlacktipH, Greg Norman and I catch a massive hammerhead shark that was bigger in overall length than the current world record. I was flying my drone and found a monster hammerhead shark chasing a blacktip shark, trying to eat it. We hooked a blacktip shark and moments later, a massive hammerhead shark swam by the boat and proceeded to eat the blacktip shark that we hooked. I managed to capture the entire feeding behavior with my drone! Greg fought the shark for nearly an hour with heavy tackle. The size of this shark was massive, larger than we imagined! The overall length of the shark was 175 inches (14ft and 7 inches), literary the largest hammerhead shark I've ever seen! Myself, Greg and Ryan decided to jump in the water with the shark before the release. This was such an incredible experience! Greg caught and released one of the largest hammerhead sharks ever on rod and reel!

    • Valid Reminds me of a snorkeling experience I had once. I was only a little kid on vacation with my parents in Cozumel when we decided to go snorkeling. I'm just looking around underwater, minding my own business, when I look in front of me and see a fish swimming straight at me. I think it's no big deal, but then it turned to the side, and it was right then that I realized that it had pretty big teeth. Turns out it was a barricuda, and as I had recently watched Finding Nemo, I was understandably terrified.

    • Lol you think that's bad? Imagine a woman (technically a dwarf at almost 4'8" but I don't have dwarfism) running and screaming in a river over those little skinny fish that are about an inch long and nibble you very lightly, kinda like the ones used in spas but they have a weaker nip. That's me about a year ago when I went camping with my family near a river. The most interesting thing besides that was this crow that was making chicken noises.

  • So glad you took the time to help rejuvenate/oxygenate the shark before releasing it. Those particular sharks stress out easily (no matter how large they are) and it's easy for them to die quickly. That was an old fish to be so large. I'm really glad you let him live to fight another day!

    • One of the most incredible things I ever witnessed involved a 17 foot Great Hammerhead 1500-2000 pounds... We were fishing the Cortez/ Tanner Banks 1991-2 Strong El Nino 120 miles out Tuna fishing was off the hook... acres and acres of foaming tuna eating bait fish it was amazing In itself...we were ANCHORED and the Schools would just come by ...later in the day 150-200 pound Bluefin lots of guys including myself were out gunned with small reels...took an hour to get a fish to the boat! This guy was fighting a big tuna 150 and this Great Hammerhead came up and started chomping on the tuna top water about 10 feet off the rail right In front of me in Slow motion... leisurely chomping one of it's Hammers came out of the water over 3 feet long ( so close to the rail I almost could of slapped it! It was surreal it's eye was as big as a tennis ball! The hammer all bumpy Olive Green on top kinda light blue line then white underneath.... Outta nowhere this 900lb Sea Lion comes from beneath and slams it's shoulder into the shark and knocked the sharks head off the tuna the shark disappeared slowly under the water while the sea lion ate the tuna! The sound when the Sea Lion slammed into the tuna was incredibly weird! Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️

Ranging from doing a song with Too $hort (just checked this off a couple weeks ago!), to diving with Great White Sharks before I die! I happen to have a friend in common with a family member, who has had the opportunity to dive with them 3 times! And she has given me the roadmap to be able to do it. With my health failing me, I don’t expect to have many years left. So I am gonna do everything I can to move the shark diving to the top of my list, now that I have completed one of my other big list to do’s. Your fishing trip @james, sounds incredible! I wish I lived near the ocean to go deep sea fishing. I am landlocked. Except I literally live next door to the Great Salt Lake in Utah. But it has no fish. I truly want to live near the ocean. My 13 foot 3 inch Hammerhead is still the Georgia State Record at 770 pounds. It is the oldest standing record in Georgia. My friend Chuck Hall still holds the record for the Tiger Shark at 12 foot 7 inches and 794 pounds. Chuck is 77 years old now. Both sharks were caught fishing from a 20 foot Mako boat belonging to my best friend Jay Childers age 75. Jay and I are doing our bucket list now that includes trips to Trinidad, Guyana, Panama and Costa Rica. We all started shark fishing when we were in our mid teens.

      @KnarBurger@KnarBurger5 жыл бұрын
    • Bert236 of course these are just assumption. Perhaps that was the heaviest and largest fish he’s caught on the channel. But the reason I would believe this hammerhead would weigh more is due to the fact full 20ft sawfish grow to around 1100-1300lbs. his being around 17ft would mean it wouldn’t weigh quite as much. Still an impressive weight. Also the muscle structure between a sawfish and a hammerhead is different. Hammerhead muscle density is much greater which would mean much heavier. These are all assumption, again. I’m not claiming anything. I’m no marine biologist haha.

    • Catch and release is still potentially lethal to sharks, particularly hammerheads, due to lactic acid buildup in the blood. There are more resilient sharks species, but hammerheads are unfortunately among the more sensitive species studied. This is gaudy at best and is inarguably putting the shark in extreme danger.
