1962 Tonka Jet Delivery Truck Pickup One year Only Rare Restoration
I purchased this 1962 Tonka Jet Delivery Truck on eBay February of 2022. I've been looking for one of these bad enough shape that it needed restoration. This truck was made one year only with the truck bed sides and Jet Delivery decals. When I opened the box much of the paint had rubbed off in the bubble wrap but what remained was extremely cool looking. There was green and red corrosion on the bare metal parts, the paint was all wrinkled up and peeling away, the majority of the body had extreme amounts of rust while other parts you could see what appeared to be clean metal. The wheels and tires were shot and I had to purchase replacements as well as for the glass which was broken. Overall I love how this project came out and honestly I love the pictures of the corrosion prior to the rebuild, it was absolutely stunning. Thank you again for watching!

Your restorations are no longer just toys ...they are top quality museum pieces.... excellent job...👍👍👍👍👍
Too bad the videos are fake, nothing is in that bad of shape
@@MrKenstar2 I don't know, I've been to several antique shops and some old toys do look like how this did in the beginning.
As a person who grew up with Tonka trucks, and still owns two, I want to thank you for rescuing so many, and bringing them back to be played with. Bless you sir.
My five year old grandson watched this with me. He loved it and proclaimed the truck beautiful!
The catspector was unsure about this one. Once again you blew my socks off . Another beautiful restoration. Even Beaker was surprised. Just wow!
At first Beaker was like "Uh...I don't know about this one..."
Looney tunes melodiasías animadas ayer hoy
"catspector!" Good one! Cats are soooo "helpful." ;-)
🐱Mechanic be inspecting they’ll charge you in tuna
@@dzymslizzy3641 Survived the Cat Scan!
You were the first restoration I watched. Over a year ago, now I am hooked! My wood shop is now a Tonka Garage. Have restored around ten now starting a new one! Watch several restorers now.
Look at Beaker inspecting the truck. She's becoming a real expert on restoration, honestly she probably knows more than I do at this point.
But I'm not sure how safe it is for a cat to be sniffing lead paint.
Tonka never used lead paint, even on much older models.
She needs to be sure it's purrrfect.
I love how Beaker gave it such a good inspection at the beginning and then gave it less than a cursory glance at the end as if to say, “Yeah, well, that’s more like it.” Superb restoration. I thought there would have been more holes in it, the rust was everywhere. It looked so bad.
My daughter says .... " Where is the sheep ? .... Oh. A cat... that's OK "... my son sees the sandblater and says Dad can we get one ? For what l replied .... meatloaf night he said... glad my wife is at her sister's ... nice restoration, very cool truck.
😊
I honestly didn’t think there was enough metal under all that rust to restore. Once again you astounded me and proved me wrong. Beautiful work!
Sua Maestà La Sabbiatrice la fa sempre da protagonista...😁
CHIP! Thanks for the head's up! This is terrific! I wish you know who was here to see this, he would have loved it! How wonderful!
Chip, you know me by another name. Thanks for the email!
I know it feels good bringing back something so rare. I feel good watching you bring it back. Thanks for sharing.
There are lots of Tonka restorers out there in YT land but none with the skills and craftsmanship you display in every video. Thanks for sharing another of your creations with us.
Wait. hold up, the gentleman @ TRG RESTORATIONS is as good as Chip here in my opinion I also believe they have mutual respect for one another and both are some of the best in the biz.
Though I liked the various dolls I was given, I envied my older brother's Tonka cars, dump trucks snd crane. When I was around six, my Dad gave me a "found" blue horse trailer for my various plastic animals. I played with my long trailer more than my metal kitchen set (refrigerator, stove and sink). Once we became teens our toys were passed down to younger relatives or donated. Thank you for bringing them back to such amazing conditions. 🍄🍄
Hands down, the absolute BEST toy restorations on the inter-webs!!! Thanks Chip Channel... keep 'em rollin'
A very thorough inspection by the catspector before the job started. Good to see
Tonka was a good company. Shame we don't make things like that any longer.
I love the cat insurance adjuster! Sure to his time inspecting this one. Love your videos. You do beautiful work.
Very professional work, Thanks my friend, Big like
I was already looking forward to this Sunday's video. Thank you Chip!

Agreed!
If only we could recapture our youth as elegantly as you restore these toys ......
Love the quality control cat.
Hi Beaker!! You supervise so well. I think you deserve more treats. Great job Chip!!
I know you're looking at that tank for a next project. You gotta give the people what they want!
Amazing when brought back to life!
WOW!! GREAT JOB!!!BRAVO!!
Better than new and coating will last forever awesome transformation and restoration work 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💰
Chip: Here's the former rust bucket, all fixed up. Beaker: I'll eat a treat to that.
that cat just smelled the trucks history ... it knows more about where it has been than we ever would ... just from sniffs
Chrome work is fantastic!!
The sand blasting on this one is so awesome it’s so pleasing to watch haha
Sweet frame off restoration,,,,beautiful,,👏👏👏
Another Fan!tastic! resto Chip It looks better than new, Bravo!
That paint was scary....I didn't think there was much left under it! Great restoration!
Following a very detailed inspection by "Dr. F.E.LINE", the order to proceed was issued. The Master Restorer then took over, and what a result ! My sincere compliments to you & the Dr. BRILLIANT WORK !
Unbelievable. Brilliant job
Important Work of an important worker. 👌
I love your work - when I was growing up the boy next door had several of these Tonka trucks, would have been early 1970's
The valuable ones are '49-'63
Beautiful Restoration index👏👏👏
I really like the restoration of these classic toys, brings me back to a bunch of childhood memories of having fun all year lomg when I was child/pre-teen.
Lovely restoration. A true labor of love. Sandblasting that front grill was the best ASMR. Made me happy and able to get thru the rest of my day. Thanks.
Amazing job as always. You are preserving these toys for the future generations, so they know, what kids in our times played with. These old toys are true treasures and a valuable heritage of a long gone era.
We couldn't agree more!
Nice work, you can tell it's a labor of love
You are an amazing talent! An artist, doctor and healer all in one! Love it! A Tonkaologist if you will.
You master number 1!!!!Its beautiful 🤩!!!!!Super job and beauty car!!!!!!
This channel is amazing. My 3 yr old begs for yucky truck. He loves seeing them transform. His cute “wow!!!” Is soooooo good.
The train engine you have in the pile, looks like its gonna be a very interesting restoration proyect :D
Thank you 🐺
Well done! Thank you for posting this.
I'm always astounded at how good the metal is under all that rust. They really built toys to last back when I was a kid!
The condition is fake, always is
@@MrKenstar2I understand what your saying. It's easy to break, add grease and other stuff to make things appear older than they are. The problem here is oxidation. You van make something look as if it was oxidized, but for something to actually oxidize takes time and have bugs in them, takes time in harsh conditions. Oxidation is a chemical reaction, in this case ions are exchanged with oxygen. Metal (ferrous 2+ extra electron or Ferric 3+ extra electrons) oxygen has 8 electrons to share. When H2O come in contact with Fe you end up with a passionate match of 4Fe+3O2 - 2Fe2O3. Depending how much of this reaction has taken place, you may or may not have enough Fe left to work with. This is a simplified version of oxidation. You can't sand blast something that is grime to make it look oxidized. It must be clean of residue or grime. It's kind of hard to achieve such natural form of decay unless the where bought and thrown away allowing it to rust and be decayed by nature over a long period of time. If that's the case, he's still doing a darn good job at restoring it back to mint condition.
Gorgeous - and weirdly satisfying to watch the transformation. Beautiful job.
I was expecting a lot of pitting but lo and behold, once sandblasted the steel looked factory fresh.
... and exactly this made me think, the car suffered from a chemical fake corrosion...
@@tommes55 That thought was in my mind also. Just needed some footage of a surprise finding in the gardens or rice fields nearby 😉
Gosh darn thing was pert near mint condition before you started!!! Superb re-craftsmanship!
you did a great job restoring the jet delivery truck.
Outstanding job Chip...👍
Love the cat and the sheep. Also your videos!
I like how correct there put back together,, even better than they originally came
Very nice work my friend it’s amazing the craftsmanship back then compared to todays garbage.
Decent , very impressed with your work
WOW! What a great job on restoring this truck. It was a mess. Just love your videos. Thank you for doing an excellent job. Carol from California
Amazing difference and beautiful cat too.
Stunning job!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️ Though that tank is taunting me… 😑
Congratulation chip Channel the Fábio and Rafael from Brazil. Excelent restauration. Long life the Channel.
Beautiful restoration mister good job well done
One of the things that surprised me the most is that replacement parts for the tires etc are still available! Talk about a NICHE market!
Simply lovely sympathetic resto job 👍👍
Awesome as usual 🙋♀️😉🇱🇷
Another great rebirth!
Best toy box I have ever seen!
Words cannot describe how before and after, thumbs up
SOY TU FANS!!!!! ME ENCANTA LO QUE HACES....... TU GATITO BELLO!
Beaker's getting good at doing cat scans of your finished work, and has the same coloring as my oldest cat. Incidentally, housecats are derived from the African wild cat, and are about the same size and the colors are about the same as Beaker and my Sandy cat.

Beaker and my boy, Axel, have the same coloring too. Axel also does cat scans of whatever I'm working on! 🥰😆
Beautiful Truck and wonderful collection.
Beautiful. 🙂✌️❤
That’s now a work of art,I’d gladly put that on my bookshelf as a book end, please please do the tank next I like the look of that one, thanks for sharing Love and peace from Ireland
You have, by far, some of the most satisfying sandblasting clips on the internet. 👌
Nice. I was born in 1962. Can not remember what year I got my Tonka fire engine, I believe 1966. It pumped water. I still have the engine. I pull it out for the Christmas Tree every year. I did not find a Tonka. When replacing the sewer line in my 1951 house, I found a rubber truck. I did clean it up.
Absolutely Beautiful
Very nice. It amazed me that there was very little rust under the peeling paint! When I first saw it I figured you would be JB Weld/ bondo-ing the entire truck.
Очередной грузовик получился просто Сууууперрр отличная работа я я каждое ваше видео смотрю с огромным удовольствием мне хочется вернуться в детство когда я был маленьким и у меня были игрушки.
I love watching that gorgeous vintage powder coat baking in the oven ❤
These videos are relaxing to just lay back and watch ;)
I love the sand blasting.
Another great result. It was in a terrible state!!! The sand blasting is a real blessing for a job like that and it is as strangely therapeutic as ever. They really came up with a host of different trucks off the basic layout. Look forward to the next one!!!
The absolute best channel for restoration to this time. I love seeing all these old toys come back to life.
If there's something strange In your neighborhood Who you gonna call? SandBlaster!😅👍
Another amazing restoration! Thank you for sharing! I agree that the pattern and texture of the paint flaking and corrosion was interesting. I see that others have commented that the original paint appeared more turquoise, which I like very much; but I am also a fan of the green that you chose. Both colors are appropriate to the era. Hello to Beaker and the sheep. 😊
The checkering was a bit like something that had been in a fire, but the truck overall didn't look like it had been. Could the choice of color have to do with what the powder manufacturer makes available as standard colors? I'm sure a turquoise could be mixed, but there would need to be enough of it to coat everything, and some kept for any future repairs to that particular toy. (Or perhaps an exact formula by weight of standard color powders arrived at, and that formula then kept with the toy.)
Once again, a beautiful restoration! You do the best work! I agree I prefer the original blue with the white. It seems more early 60’s! Ether way top notch!!
What looked like trash. Is now a treasured toy. Love to have one. Keep on restoring. Beautiful work
I just love this truck wish I had it in real life love the color scheme.
awesome restoration! You sir are a artisan and a mechanic. The Tonka Man.
We love your restaurations...Respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking great!!!
As usual class a restoration
Look how beautiful it is.
