Why is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Still Popular?- MGRR Review. After reviewing the entire Devil May Cry franchise, the comments were overwhelmingly asking for two character action games. Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Bayonetta might be further down the line, no promises on that right now!

I told ya'll I'd make more than one video this year.
He finally stopped playing DMC and remembered his channel.
Barely
I guess the next one in gonna be Mid 2023
@@ancientnightTV I can relate. I finally stopped playing all of the DMC games and remembered I have a wife and kids. LOL
were happy you did :]
Yes, the older Metal Gear games are this based, but they also ARE about a guy with a cool eyepatch and his weaboo boyfriend.
I do ironically love Raiden's new design. Like you said, it has so many cool elements that it goes back to being funny. Especially the eye patch. Like he has so many high tech parts on him, but I guess his team ran out of budget and just gave him a $10 cloth to cover his eye
It's from his design when the game was set to take place in-between MGS2 and MGS4. I guess they just kept it because the original MGS: Rising was scrapped and the whole project rebooted from scratch, with MGR having about 2 years of development. Hilariously, the codecs reveal that Raiden can see with the eyepatch as if it's a real eye.
@@jjtheenton lmao eye-patch shape eye
He's so cool that he looks like a dork and then he's such a dork that he's actually pretty fucking cool.
The dorkier raiden looks, the stronger and cooler he becomes. If he wore fake glasses and suspenders, he might even beat Goku.
HEY I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT'S BALENCIAGA CLOTH RIGHT THERE
Small correction. Devil May Cry always had a system where attacking in time with an enemy's attack would result in a parry. DMC5 is just much more forgiving about it.
TIL
@@HyveMindsGames Eh, small correction on my end. It was only for specific enemies during the PS2 era, and became all enemies with DMC4 onward. Note to self, check facts first before presenting.
@Maria Flores So, still only specific enemies were parry-able in DMC3, but the list of enemies that could be parried expanded greatly compared to DMC1.
@Maria Flores Yeah, I knew those tidbits. Always made the Phantom fight that much more fun.
I think that Raiden's desing kinda does a full 360 - it tries so hard to be cool it ends up dorky, but through sheer confidence ends up cool again.
So true
That's probably the best way of putting it
what about that design isn't cool? doktor even explains a lot of the new body's practicality
That landing on the beach was so clean, he really sells how cool he is
The thing that Raiden is missing for maximum anime coolness is some tattered cape or scarf that waves dramatically in the wind (which is blowing in every cutscene, of course). I guess the poncho costume _almost_ counts?
Character impressions while reading dril tweets should now be required by law in every video game review
It's worth noting that in-game dialogue indicates Sam intentionally left Raiden alive to get stronger. If I had to guess why, it's because he wanted to fight someone who represented his past self prior to being indoctrinated into the Winds of Destruction.
I love how Raiden can literally have his whole body replaced, but still has to use an eyepatch
Striking while the iron is blistering cold. Nah, but glad you finally got around to this masterpiece. And made another video! \o/
After 8 months, he's back
Yes, Metal Gear has always been this based.
The only hack and slash that I've truly mastered. That stormbringer achievement is my proudest gaming achievement. S ranking every mission on revengeance difficulty was such a satisfying feeling.
We can probably particularly thank Maxor for reintroducing this game to the mass public.
Oh true and I can finally watch those videos now that I'm done with mine
@@HyveMindsGames Hope you’re prepare to experience a migraine.
dear god it hurts
Memes. The DNA of the soul. They shape our will. They are the culture - they are everything we pass on
Amazing video, as always! Love your analysis and perspective, and those tweet read-outs were great 😁
What a great vid!! I praise it more as I hear part of Chainsaw Man’s intro in the background cause it fits so well
Awesome video for an awesome game, also i find it so funny how many times you used kickback in this video, it fits metal gear rising so much
The lack of a real-time weapon change feature is a result of hardware limitations. The cutting engine used up too much RAM for systems to also be able to handle weapon switching.
if you mod it for weapon switching than I guess you would get what a definitive edition would be
Raiden has always been a dork, you play through the MGS games (or watch them because there’s a lot to take in) Edit: I also think Sonic Unleashed is a good game and it’s my favourite game of all time
i like how when you started with DMC1 you were kinda green with these kinds of games like this but now you're a certified pro
Secretly hoping this leads to a MGS review series 🤞
The return of the king
Metal Gear series (1-3) have always had absurd over-the-top plots that somehow work like a cohesive story with a decent depth to it. But they were not as goofy as Rising. But those were stealth games, so the story was more restrained to fit the tone. But in a game where you throw metal gears around all bets are off.
Your thoughts on the stealth stuff is actually spot-on with their intent. It was to be flippant about turning Metal Gear gameplay upside down. Side note, now I have a feeling you'd have great thoughts about Spark The Electric Jester 3 because of your character action and Sonic background and appreciation for cheese
Welcome back again 😁
"A very unique experience" is something you can say about everything with the words 'Metal Gear' attached
Great review
amazing video, and pretty much summed up my experience.
Haha love how kickback was playing in the background 90% of the time Also nice video really condensed what I like about it, also as a metal gear fan I got to warn you (not gatekeeping promise), the previous games aren't as earnest as this one they tell incredibly complex narratives that retcon and change all the time and when finish you one of the games (with exception of 3 and maybe 1 since theyre more straight forward) you have to keep thinking what did just play and what did it mean? Regardless still amazing games with 2 being my favourite and stars raiden as an origin story and is also all about memes and society so revengence feels like a continuation of it
Amazing stuff, dude, greatly enjoyed it. Thanks for putting so much effort into these action games, most of which I grew up with and still love dearly to this day. And I am also a HUGE DmC fan as well. I liked that more than DMC4, haha. But that's all I'll say. Don't want the DMC Police gettin' us! xD And just some suggestions for future content, There's Astral Chain on the Nintendo Switch. Wonderful 101 on PC (and Switch), Ninja Gaiden (which I'm not a huge fan of, but it's still a great action game), Assault Spy (tho, I think that would be a short video, tbh.) and my personal GOTY for 2022, SIFU. A kung Fu beat 'em up with the combat system of the Arkham games and Absolver, but they took it's combat, cranked it up to 11, and improved on it sooooo much. Funnest game I've played this year.
the best description of this story that I have heard is "Violently politicly"
The "really cool loser" vibe you get from Raiden is completely consistent with his character MGS2 lol
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is a one time experience. I mean they literally made Twitter a Plotpoint. I just love this Game.
Hey Hyve mind. I think your review on DMC reboot was really good. I love that game. It is funny with a younger Dante.
frame one this video is a W. kick back is a perfect song choice and also goes insanely hard
I just started it and was blown away from the start. The guy who beat me to hell I thought I would mess up at first. The game has perfect ai and it's hard but not dark souls level. Definitely some peak points. I love how it feels lk boss after boss. Idk I'm on stage 4 and only died twice but I can tell it's going to get harder. I have to get the parry down I guess. So far I can just get through with attack and move strategies lol. It's a super underrated game.
IDK if you noticed bc i didnt hear you mention it but this game has a mechanic called dodge offset where you use the dodge move in the middle of a combo and are able to actually resume the combo where you left off. its a carryover from bayonetta but since i played this game before that one and due to this game's emphasis on parrying over dodging i never knew about it for years. it adds quite a bit of depth however.
Did not know about this, very cool!
Thank god I played this game on release. Also you can cut a any rocket from any enemy that is coming for you, no matter if it's a boss or a soldier's RPG.
My controller wasn't working for this game, so I ended up using my keyboard and mouse, and I feel that it made it a little easier to find out how to parry attacks. You didn't really have to move anything around, but rather press W, A, S, or D depending on where the attack came from. This made it a lot easier to figure out how to parry/block consecutive attacks during the Monsoon fight. Later on I started playing on the controller and I didn't have any trouble with the parrying mechanic because I already found out how to work out the parries, although I could understand how it could be tedious finding out how to do this on controller without prior knowledge
"Seems pretty cut and dry when you put it like that" *"cut and dry"* I see what you did there.
I actually liked wolf's dlc, especially the khamsin fight. It was very difficult on revengeance because his attack timings were little different every time
Babe wake up, new Hyve Minds video
Armstrong took me a year to beat. Played in pc and the part where he throws the building at you was just impossible for me to cut accurately, so I found a glitch to go under it instead... Meaning I got no health as you would normally. Had to do a no damage run to best him. Played like two hours daily for two weeks, stepped away for a month, try again, until months later I finally did it. No idea what happens after you beat him. I was in a euphoric coma.
The "run under" technique isn't cheating/glitching as far as I know. They let you do that if you're unable to slice the debris, but the price you pay is like you said, no healing items. I just don't want ya' to think to yourself "Well, I beat him, but I used a glitch". You actually used an intended feature and bested Armstrong! I like that they gave us those two choices.
I imagine that moment of Raiden saying "we're done here" when sticking his arm into Armstrong's chest was actually orgasm inducing for you.
I agree with you on the parry sytem being poorly explained. I finally broke and went to the internet for help around the introduction of the harambe enemies.
Next on your list of character action games to play should be Wonderful 101. Made by Kamiya himself. Also glad to see another awesome vid. You're the reason why I gave DMCV a try and has succumbed me to this addiction of chasing action lol. Another great one is Doom Eternal btw. Trust me my guy
I'll give wonderful 101 a look! Already love Doom Eternal, I just haven't made a video on it cause I don't have anything unique to add to the conversation about it.
@@HyveMindsGames sweet bro you'll def love it!
28:57 I don't know about DMC1, but DMC3 had this parry system before. However, only certain attacks could be parried. It was expanded in DMC5. The reboot also had a lot of parrying with the same system (which I assume inspired the expansion of the parrying system in DMC5)
@Maria Flores interesting!
Dude I almost forgot this channel existed since the DMC3 one lol, is nice to see you back :D I have to thank you for explaining the parry in such depth, I played it only once, and never learned the proper way this crap works, so I wasn't too hyped to play it a second time... Not being a fan of parry in general is not helpful either, but this sounds doable enough for me. I really needs to play this again. Specially after the sheer dissapointment that was Bayonetta 3 (storywise, I mean. It is a fucking dumpster fire)
One of my favorite video game soundtracks has to be The Legend of Dragoon. Such good boss music. 3 different tracks would play specifically for the difficulty of the fight.
Was not expecting to see a peak RPG in a mgr video
"Kept us waiting, huh?"
28:59 It was aways like This, the only way tô parry attacks in DMC1 IS with a well timed sword Strike, but in DMC5 the timing is Just not as strict
There's a known issue with this game that as been documented since it was ported to PC, and issue I experienced myself. One where for some reason items just won't spawn during the DLC missions for some people. That makes the missions a fuck of a lot harder because you get no healing items as well as making it impossible to finish Sam's mission or fight Armstrong.
You can fix this bug by finishing the story with raiden. No Idea why
@@headhunter1958 Thanks. You know what the issue is? I've beaten the last mission multiple times but I always close the game out to bypass the unskippable 7 minute credits. I never unlocked the Muramasa but it qualified me as beating the mission and I was able to access the DLC.
18:50 Onimusha had a high-risk high-reward "get health from enemies" mechanic all the way back in 2001, and i doubt its the first game to come up with this idea. Its not really that novel of a concept (although its definitely underused in the gaming industry)
28:55 idk about the others but DMC3 definitely has a parry mechanic, its how i cheesed agni and rudra
So it's a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance AND Chainsaw Man recommendation in the same video! xD
Thank u for reviewing action games. U should do bayonetta next
Finally, someone else who's favorite song is The Stains of Time.
I can't believe they don't ride the hype and release a The long awaited mgr 2 😮
I still consider Rules of Nature the "Bury The Light" of 2013. Definitely my all time favorite track from the game Over the top anime kind of Combat & A badass hardcore metal rock soundtrack Where DMC & MGR meet
Great video Now play Bayonetta1 It's from creator of first DMC Sam's Taunt comes from that game
MGR is the type of game that tries so hard to be cool and edgy that it actually loops back around into being cool again. Played it the first time a month or two ago and I absolutely adored it. The first time RULES OF NATURE kicked in, I was hooked
It's one of the few games that loops around being to being cool so many times that it actually ends up being cool and ridiculous at the same time, and I love it.
I remember getting to sam's boss fight without knowing how to Parry lmao
I got to the final boss without knowing how to do the fade Dodge thing that lets you avoid the damage.
I once tried playing on Hard after 2 Revengence playthroughs… not a good idea. I was so used to the parry counter instakilling enemies that I got blindsided constantly.
46:02 They way I see it, Collective Conciousness: Armstrong's theme Rules of Nature: Raiden's theme It has to be this way: Both Raiden AND Armstrong's them
"Who want to play all the stupid minigames?" Me who completed all the 50 VR missions with gold: Hey, that's offensive... But yeah, you have a good point. If ONLY MGR has its own Bloody Palace for the three characters.
I'm pretty sure even Kojima himself has described the Metal Gear series as being inseparable from politics.
41:11 Ninja Gaiden 2 Survival Mission Mode. Especially playing for Karma Score. You're welcome
I have played this video game ever since I got it in 2014 for four dollars and from a random game store, I have always repeatedly tap the stick to parry just because I don’t like locking on.
hi your content is great as always my friend
Small Correction: DMC5's parry system was in 3 & 4, it just wasn't as easy to pull off, and didn't have quite as much impact.
The MGS series is definitely worth your time
It’s Bayo time
its crazy how good platinum games used to be
BUY ASTRAL CHAIN AND BAYO3 Babylon's fall it's square's fault watch old trailers
@@daniilryabov8087 I haven't even played Astral Chain and Bayo 3, but I can totally recommend them, as well. As a hardcore Character Action genre lover, those game are quite good. Amazing even.
Astral chain become one of my best things ever. Soundtrack, art style, character design, world building is just super cool! It’s got potential to become an iconic IP in the future
It's been a while.
Didn't talk about in the story at all. Crazy lol
MGR Raiden is just the personification of 2007 Media
Dude, I'm also gonna ask once again that you tackle an Assassin's Creed Game. At this point, I don't care which one. I'd really love to see your take on that franchise especially when it comes to Parkour, Scenery and Assassinations
29:32 of I remember correctly that is exactly how it works on pc
I had the same issue with the parry system.
Dude Glory kills have been around since God of war 1
Amazing game but the troubled development does show especially in the second half. Mission 4 is just backtracking, mission 5 is just a boss fight and mission 6 is mostly just the final boss
Still good level design and way better than lot of hack and slash
@@morkgin2459 i wouldn't call it good level design, it's mediocre at its best even for 2013 standard
@@jinshimizu then mediocre is good for hack and slash games. DMC before the reboot and V had some form of major shit level design. Bayonetta is not that praise worthy either. God of War and Ninja Gaiden only had the constant good design.
@@jinshimizu had no mediocre puzzles or shitass platforming to make the game "varied"
@@morkgin2459 im half agreed with you, im fine with hack n slash games with mediocre level design as long as the combat and enemies are interesting enough. But a good platforming section with a little bit of puzzle do matter in these type of game and sometimes can blend in with some combat encouter as well. If it's done right it can be great. Like Doom for example (i know Doom is not a hack n slah game but it's still a fast-paced action game)
Don't remember using reaper mode once...
This game NEEDS a next gen rerelease. It's free money Konami, come on!
may not have the best combat but MGR definitely is the hypest of the genre
You should play and review bayonetta 1
fuck it, it's revengeancin' time
This game man... is not a great one... but is perfect for having a fun time slicing things and releasing tension... and the OST man... wow... is one of my favs an I think I listen to it 2 times a week, Stains of time is my fav song of the bunch... you wont regreat to play the game once a week hehe
Now I'm wondering if you'll start a Metal Gear Solid series. Great games with a lot of history... If you can wait out the cutscenes.
Not likely, unfortunately. Stealth games and cutscene heavy games just aren't really my thing.
@@HyveMindsGames Fair enough. Sadly the character fighter genre is light on content. After God of War and Bayonetta there's not much left.
True. Thankfully I'm not restricting myself to just character action games for my videos! Think I might do some platformers next.
@@borticus101 There's Astral Chain on the Nintendo Switch. The reason you can't just change on the fly is because then it'd just be dmc
bayonetta, god of war 3 and darksiders 2 had it, and they were still different from dmc, unless if this was rushed, I don't see any good reason to not add in on the fly weapon switching
4:32 - guys in APCs are not a threat, Raiden is not a threat. Combined however... Well, since Sam is not a cyborg I guess he prefers to keep amount of lead in his body at healthy minimum.
Not sure how much a one-armed currently bleeding out Raiden was gonna add to that fight lol
lets fucking go
I watched some japanese playthrough, and I gotta say I love the english dub, it's like MGS top quality, like Sundower's voice is SO good in english and also, at some point the Raiden VA realizes this is so stupid and over the top that goes full campy when he removes his cringe inhibitors.
DEAD ON!
im just wondering how you beat monsoon without knowing how to parry
someones a fan of kick back and i can’t blame ya played it 4 times during this review
I can't stop listening to it so you all have to hear it too
