  • OK Les, now I understand the benefits of KZhead. This is the kind of tutorial I've been wanting for years from you. We know you can hunt, but sitting down and talking about how you hunt is so helpful. I've basically self taught myself by watching you for years. Yes I learned a lot by watching you, but I had to try and put that into use in the field. Knowing what you are thinking will help me think. Thanks for all your videos and for teaching us all. Derek

  • You're giving away all of our secrets Les! LOL just kidding, but you have laid the groundwork for people looking to get into competition hunting. I agree with almost everything you have said so far in the 2 videos I have watched. The locating, mindset, moving off stand, and grid hunting all resonate with me. Like you, I'm a competitive son of a squash, and I think about things quite differently than the average hunter. I'm waiting to watch your video on gun selection. Something tells me we will agree there as well. All the best Les, keep them coming! Matt

  • great video!!!! the mark of the best coyote caller is how they can do on public land. Anyone can go find some ranch honey hole that only they have access to. Many of the guys that win the competitions you typically see them only do well when the competition is in that location. They have something figured out for that spot. I wish they had a competition that had a random draw and people had no idea where they were going to hunt. That is why my favorite thing is hunting country I have never been to. YES I have hunted west of saratoga, lot of private land for a while there. on over to baggs, then up north to wamsutter. all that area. I am a western public land coyote caller, utah, idaho, wyoming, colorado,nevada, most years I hunt 4 out of those 5 I love the challenge of looking at the map and calling a coyote in areas I thought looked good, that I have never seen before.

  • It's so hard to hunt coyote here in southwestern Pennsylvania.. so much thick cover.. so manyfarmers greedy with their land.. only places to hunt are coal mine property or consol energy property they buy it.drill it.timber it and then allow ya to hunt it.. can't even walk thru it's so thick.. I'd love to hunt coyote out west on the flat open land.. hell with deer hunting or elk or any big game animals.. I get way more of a rush shooting a coyote.. love your video.. wish I cld find me a down wind guy.. I'm a 47yr old woman and people say I'm crazy to go off into the woods late at night alone to hunt coyote... they just don't understand I guess!!

  • Here in New Mexico on the rez I'm from most dogs are quiet... I hunt close to areas where I hear them while guiding elk hunters. I hunt from 10,000 feet to 6000 feet from thick timber mountains to wide open flats

  • I'm probably not going to any calling competitions,I'm already in competition with the yotes around here. W.N.Y. Big dogs & plenty enough of them. A real problem for just about everyone. Very smart educated & very used to being near people,wise to people, & their fear of people in this higher populated area mixed of country, rural & urban has educated them to the point of being so stealthy,call wise & unfoolable, that they aren't really afraid or concerned by people trying to pursue them,& are confident & rightfully so,that people basically dont stand a chance of beating them at their game. They have switched to running adult deer with the rough late winter conditions now,February 13th it is, stealing cats from little girls & boys & anything else toothable that doesnt hibernate or now tunnel mostly under the snow as the rabbits do. We are allowed to hunt over bait here, even that they get wise to no matter if starving. Its breeding season for them now too. I was a trapper. It became pointless because they find,shred & eat 1/2 of everything you catch. Oh I can trap them,but! The expense of up grading traps,stakes,cables or chains enough to hold them is not worth it with their fur(Eastern coyote or brush wolf) being mostly worthless & a lot of very hard work. Even then,the trap is pretty much one time use,its so destroyed by them it might never set reliably again. Do the math? A $10 to $25 dollar trap for every 10 to 25 dollar hide. Minus theft,fuel,bait,urine,lure,4 wheeler or side by side,clothing,boots,& much other gear from amo to pack baskets,& license fees! Not to mention all fur prices have been disgusting even long before covid other than select western coyotes. Got to love those animal activists. Hey,thank them for the facemasks!

  • Another winner full of great info! My question is,.... so if a coyote adds a little yip/bark at the end of his howl, that typically means he knows you're there?

    @4givenfrits@4givenfrits7 жыл бұрын
    • No, but I take a "Bark" on most instances as a warning or threat. What does a dog do when you go into someones driveway when your not from there? I think he warned and he barked to call his bitch back to him.

  • Okay so I'm in a hunt currently. I hunt Nighy and daytime. I have a lot of ground and never call the same ground anymore than once every two weeks. Coyotes get pressure around here quite a bit whether on your ground or when they are out and about hunting. I went in last night and first stand during my night hunt I did a mouth howl interrogation howl and had a pack way North of me yip ans howling, what sounded like an old male just west of me maybe 200 yards do a lonesome type of howl and two younger males in different spots howl on from of me a ways away. all this from one howl. when they howl back is that bad. I shut my lights off due to the full moon driving last night and was quite ans a good ways from the road and in fairly close to some CRP and pine brush. ended up calling a fee bobcats in but never a coyote. was the howl from the old male a warning howl? there was never a bark or anything just a Howl. he was where I couldn't get to him effectively so I let him be for another time. I use howls on a regular ans last night I used a female interrogation or a higher pitch howl if you will to mimic a lone female.
