  • Turned 40 in August last year been climbing for about 2 and after years of trying different pursuits realised climbing, for me at least, is the perfect thing to keep fit, keep strong and have a good laugh . A bonus is my wife and youngest daughter loves climbing too so we have a good time together. Im also a plumber so I'm on my knees alot of the time and so I know the pain of bad knees and back. Hope it all works out for you.

  • I’m 27 and in the last 4 years I’ve accumulated injuries to my lower back, right shoulder, left knee, and both wrists from breaking (breakdance). An older dancer than me called me “the youngest old guy he knows”. Really got me thinking about longevity and my quality of life as I get older. This video came at just the right time for me - thank you Juji. Hope you stay healthy & well.

  • I am 52 and enjoy powerlifting movements. I understand that I am no longer 20-something, so I don't do a lot of jarring movements, no acrobatics, stopped playing basketball (my knees don't like the hard court), and by acknowledging some of this, I am stronger and healthier now than when I was in my 40s.

    @ChadWilson@ChadWilson4 ай бұрын
    • Just turned 52 myself. I've made adjustments. I can still do everything I was able to do in my younger years, but I have noticed when I get hurt, it takes a lot longer to heal. Like Juji, I think increasing my flexibility is what's allowing me to get away with some things I do today I couldn't do when I was a younger lifter with tight joints.

I used to be a competitive bodybuilder as well for many years, but retired before my children were born. I still lift weights but for a different purpose...preparing my +50yr body for inline skating marathons. Skating is an amazing sport (~1000 skating miles annually), and it has kept me young in mind, body and spirit. Keep on advancing your journey...good luck!

  • I’m 32 but I have the wear and tear of a 60 year old and I fully feel the emotions of this video and understand your point of view. Years of martial arts then weight lifting plus doing manual labor work since I was a child has taken its toll on every joint and disc I have. It has been hard emotionally in the past realizing my limits after pushing way past them and causing damage that has forced me to work my stretches and exercise around them. At 21 I felt invincible but even with these aches and pains I know I’d whoop up on 21 year old me lol. I’ve been forced to not push for one rep max on exercises and I do miss that but when I’m working out smart regularly I still feel great. I’m still athletic but I have my days that the sciatica kicks in bad or a tweaked shoulder or knee.

Jijimufu's reaction was just so *positive* and affirming and "what works *works*" that I subscribed to see more of it, and I've not been disappointed. • I am pretty weak by the standards of a lifter and I began late in life; well past the peak of the body's regenerative capabilities. It doesn't help that I used to ride mountain bikes badly, which left me with a separated shoulder on the right and one that was held together with a plate for a while, on the left. I wanted to manage a 140kg squat before my 49th birthday, and managed 135 but just couldn't quite push the 140 up. I tried a few more weeks of training and did a pretty clean job of the 140, one month later. My best deadlift was a messy 170kg and now I am hoping to manage a clean 180 in the next month or so. My best bench press was a shaky 97kg, just over my body weight which I know is pretty poor. I had a bad wrist injury in April which set bench pressing far back, but I am going to work to regain that 97 in the next few months. I had been training in martial arts for some time, but probably would never have begun lifting if not for your videos. I first found out who you were when you made a video with Shane Fazen, but quickly began watching your videos with more eagerness than I had for any others. Because of you, I have eaten more broccoli than I once would have thought possible and am fitter and healthier than I would otherwise have been. I have a lot to thank you for. My aim is to get another 20 to 30 kilos on those main lifts in the next few years, while I still can. Thank you for years of inspiration and entertainment, Juji. 🙏😀 ps. My little pet finches would like to thank you for all of the extra broccoli they also get.

This year I'd like to join the 500lb Club for weightlifting, and attend at least a few HEMA tournaments and fight in the Middle Aged categories so I don't have to keep up with folks less than half my age. Non physical is to get an IT degree at the AAS level and pass Sec+ and Net+. Two surgery goals I have are to get shoulder surgery and to fix my damaged SI Joint. Now that I live close to Chuck Gross of HEMA Strong, I think after I get past this latest injury (Meralgia Paresthetica) I will be able to dial in more things. OH! And I'd love to complete a Spartan Super, maybe at Killington, VT.

I'm now 34 on a recovery track from some serious knee rehab after it flared up bad last year. Things are feeling MUCH better now but there was a big part of me that thought I'd never (Olympic) weightlift again. There was SO MUCH doubt in my mind as the one activity in my life - lifting - seemed like something I'd have to shelf. Thankfully PT is going well and I just snatched 100kg today for the first time since my injury last year. I may have to do a knee replacement later in life but I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. I'm so glad to see you're still moving and doing well John. I think you are very right Juji, unfortunately tricking just isn’t sustainable going into our mid-late 30s. It would be cool to still be able to throw a cork here and there but the risk/reward just isn’t there anymore. I’ve always wanted to get back into breakdancing but I have always asked myself why? Practice all the time and be in pain year round so I can do something cool at a wedding for 5 minutes? As a kid or in my early 20’s it was worth it but now I prioritize not being in pain.

I'm 40 now, too, and I have come to terms with the fact that my body isn't the same as when I was 18. Yes, when you get older then you become more prone to injury - but at the same time your character changed over the past 20 years and doing back flips or whatever likely isn't your number one priority anymore. :)

  • had a motorbike crash 5 months ago and having screws through my knee has really slowed me down and i'm only just getting around to walking now. along with breaking a wrist and knackering a tendent in the other. This video has shown me that its good to reflect on where you are and how things might change, my recovery has some way's to go especially my knee hurting with pretty much every step and the quads in that leg pretty much just vanishing this has actually made me hopeful along with making sure i know I can pivot into other things

  • Juji, thanks for this brother. 47 years old, workout out for most of them, and my body quit me after covid. No sleep, full body nueropothy, pain, and misery for a solid year. Finally, I found a cure in Florida, at Aviv clinics. Its a full 3 month treatment, but im almost done. I sleep now, the symptoms are almost gone, and i have hope. We have to give up some things as we get old and injured, but we keep on living cause there's plenty left to love. Love ya brother, keep on keeping on

  • I'm turning 28, and played collegiate and semi-professional rugby for a good chunk of my life (5'10", competitive weight anywhere from 200-220lbs). Like you, I also have grade 4 osteoarthritis in my knee, that slowly got better with a PRP injection and a lot of targeted work stabilizing the muscles around the knee. I contemplated a return to rugby, but decided that part of my life is probably over. My goal used to be 200+ lbs, lean, and strong af. But i'm not enhanced and I think an extended time at this weight is really wearing on my joints. Going into 2024 and middle age, my goal is to be at a healthy weight and slowly work on my strength. Thanks for sharing Juji. Your thoughts about tricking resonated a lot with me as an athlete.

You should train depending on your specific current situation, recovery, health, sleep, age, injuries etc. I do understand the intention, which is you should train knowing that you also need to be able to train in 20 years. • Thank you for making this video and for your insight. Most of the time when athletes hit this wall, their struggles aren't public, they just go away. Young people need to be aware that the miles they're putting on their body will add up and there's almost nothing worth trading for a lifetime of chronic pain.

Then golf till about 4 yes ago.Bone on bone arthritis I have now gone through 3 months of gel shots and wear special braces to straightened out the joints. Now life sucks, Bike riding and leg workouts are all I got left to do.My shoulders are next so I can enjoy golf again without the pain.Glad to see you taking this approach.A lot of these things weren't available to me or affordable back in the 70's.Keep the honest content coming John.

  • Having started back in August lifting weights at my home (I am lucky to have some dumbbells and a barbell, bought when I was just leaving school, now I'm 33). I had a look at myself then and decided that I was not happy with how I was, how I was being received by people. I was honest with myself. Now entering the New Year, I am so glad I did. I had to start somewhere and I was so underdeveloped to the point where now (4 months along) People now notice "Hey, you're getting bigger in your shoulders dude!" And it makes me immensely happy. Call me vain... I do not care, Having been 6'3 and skinny for most of my life... It really hits you. You've come far Juji, there is so much more to go! Totally gonna be here for the Zimmer frame lift when we are all old. Love you man.

Just doing what I can because not doing it seems like giving up. Keep doing what you can do Juji, I watch like others do for the positivity not necessarily the tricking.

  • My brother I’m really sorry about your knees and your health. Man I’ve been going through a groin tear that just won’t completely heal it’s coming up to the year mark and it is debilitating. Not just physically but also mentally, emotionally, even so spiritually to feel so broken to feel as if you’re losing your health. Losing that identity of strength and resilience that you had in your younger years. It’s very humbling experience to say the least. One thing that has oddly happened is I now think I believe in God. As counterintuitive as it sounds as my body weaken my faith increases as I deal with pain and suffering I appreciate moments of ease and comfort. God bless Juji May God heal you and comfort you through the dark hours of life. In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen

  • Juji, been following you since the trickstutorials days - fellow metalhead, recovering power lifter, creeping up on 40 years of age. It’s weird to have a reckoning of age, but your outgoing “seeker” mentality will help you. Just keep trying new stuff. Personally, I found rock climbing to be a great outlet. Plenty of progression, always new challenges, great excuse to get outdoors. I have some friends that I climb with who are still crushing it in their 60s! Plus the general vibe of climbing is very laid back. Wish you the best, my man!

My plan has always been do the sport I love until I'm 55, then "retire" and move to the next endeavor. You're constantly growing and moving, so expect some thing fall to the wayside as you move forward. Love the introspection.

You have so much experience with fitness, strength, the social media game and business, people are always going to respect what you've done, and personally I've just kept watching you because of your personality and encouraging nature, not the insane feats of strength and acrobatics. You're just a good dude that we need more of in the world, that positivity can be contagious. I know you're gonna give 100% to whatever's next when it feels like the right thing. Best of luck man.
