The fact that Doc was defensive about the question shows that pressure is getting to him.
i mean, it's been brought up quite a bit the last few years so this wasn't unexpected. but yeah, if they don't close out tmr SHEESHH 😳

One of the rare few times when Kenny would make a point and actually make sense with it. Doc is definitely feeling the pressure. He's two losses away from becoming the first HC to blow a 3-0 lead.

Shaq was so big and dominant. Shaq just fails to realize that not every team has a player like himself. Coaching and adjustments matter specially in the playoffs.

@@jazzy.canadian4760 offensively? No, also he's playing with a hurt finger IIRC
@@PuchuKt embiid doesn’t dominate offensively??
@@klo4880 Embiid is dominant but, his game isn’t like Shaq’s. He doesn’t dunk all over the opponent’s defense like Shaq did. Also, with a torn ligament in his finger, he’s not gonna be able to dominate like he did before

Coaching is important and even Shaq knows it, that's why he got quiet when Kenny mentioned Phil Jackson
It wasnt Kenny it was Ernie
Coaching 100% matters but in this case if your best player on your team is scoring 15 points with 5 turnovers then you have no shot at winning, embiid will always play good its up to harden to step up

TBH, no one can win this argument. You could say all these coaches were lucky to get generational talents in their teams, you could also say these players became great largely due to being coached by these all-time great coaches. It's a mix of both, definitely.
But all of the teams that you listed have great players on them.

I think they're missing Shaq's point: if a team gets to 3 and 0 with that combination of coaches and players, and then goes 0-4 the rest of the way, you can't blame all that on the coaches. The player part of the equation has to take some, maybe most, of the responsibility. I feel that's probably true here too with the performance of Philly's stars. On the other hand, the turnaround by Toronto has a big coach's element, as he's made it possible by his adjustments for his players to play their best, most effective games.
Yea that is Shaq point lol they all get that but Doc has a track record of blowing these leads that's the issue so the coaching played a bigger part in those collapses
well we can use your argument for toronto that it was the coach's adjustments that made the players play the most effective. Can't doc make adjustments? it's definitely coach and players combined fault.

When someone is dealt different cards yet get the same result, you gotta look at the common denominator. 100% of the blame might not be on coach, but it’s a great deal of responsibility on him.
Exactly what Kenny said, but Shaq won’t listen.
The coaches set the tone, it's up to the players to finish the job. I feel ya SQ!
ok but if a team is up 3-1, the losing teams coach will have to throw something crazy together and try to break through. that would be good coaching, obviosuly. if there is no counter to the good coaching to win 3 in a row, then its bad coaching. the players are there to hit shots not draw up defensive schemes that lock down durant type players. doc cant draw up a scheme to get harden past flynn.....

After watching this rant, I'm now convinced Raptors are taking this to 7 and winning the series. The pressure is choking this philly team.
Shaq's analysis of just about everything is from what happened in his career and nothing else, forgetting how other worldly dominant he was in the paint and the amount of leverage coaches would give a guy like him.
He just has low IQ
of course coaching matters. Management matters. PLayers matter. 60% players, 40% the organisation. in every business, in every team sport its the same. Man United are bad on all fronts now, Ferguson mattered, CR7 mattered, Giggsy, Scholes, Keane, Becks all mattered. But in team sports its not about one player, if it was, championship winning teams would look very different in history.
I dont think the average NBA viewer would get the football, sorry, "soccer" reference
Mark Jackson is no Steve Kerr , curry didn’t win under Jackson , Love shaq , but coaching matters . MJ got 6 rings cause of Phil not Doug Collins
Mark Jackson built that team but didn’t get enough time to see the fruits of his labor. That team constantly improved under Jackson. He was not fired because he had issues with management. If Steve Kerr would have went anywhere else he would not have those rings
@@lamar679 Mark Jacksons offense was archaic, you're not a warriors fan for sure. His offense sucked, Kerr is 5x the coach.
@@lamar679 Mark Jackson is a floor raiser. Steve Kerr, like Phil Jackson is a ceiling raiser. Pop and Spo are in betweeners. He practiced this answer in the mirror for years
I get where Shaq is coming from. To a degree he was defending coaches. As well as, Shaq is built different from Barkley and Kenny. To be a 4 time champion, as dominant as Shaq was. He has it to the core where, that’s on us. We have to go out there and get it done. He’s just missing their view that, regardless of greatness and drive. Adjustments because it’s a team game, the coaches philosophy etc is still needed to bring it all together. Like Kenny said. Blowing a series lead on 1 team is one thing but for the most part, every team you go to. Yeah, you have to look at the coach.
he's being stubborn as always and making nonsensical claims
isnt this the same week where chuck called out the minnesota timberwolves coach for not using a time out in a 21-0 run
Shaq is delusional, thinking coaching doesn’t matter
Facts he’s trying and chuck asked him a great question he knows damn well coaching matters lol
Idk why these franchises pay millions to get the “right” coach, just pay a bum off the street 10$ an hour to do it since it doesn’t matter
I know Shaq is a great player and all, but coaching matters lol. He pretty delusional to diminish the effect coaches have on teams
The smartest one foreal is Kenny. Everyone clowns on him but he is right more times than everyone else. Its easy to go back and check. Chuck literally said if ur not the best player on the team you dont matter lol they just say whatever
Makes sense why he’d think that considering the way he played pretty much involves no strategy whatsoever. It is crazy though to say coaching doesn’t matter.
both matter tbh coaches and players wished Shaq eased and actually thought about it sadly didn't consider it tho o well
its like the work smarter not harder thing for me its like an excuse to people not to work harder but why not do both 🤷♂️
Actually, Shaq isn't wrong ... because the evidence, to him, is anecdotal. Jackson didn't spend any time coaching him and concentrated on the other guys, same thing with when he was on the Magic. Both of them essentially gave him free reign to dominate as he pleased, but coaches definitely do have a game plan, philosophy and a methodology to how they coach teams and they do set how a team ultimately operates. The only thing is that Shaq doesn't see it because he was just so dominant that Phil didn't really need to give him any instructions beyond "bully the opposite guy in the post" while he went to work with Fisher, Fox and, of course, Kobe and the rest. Shaq's just offering his perspective: he was that dominant he didn't really need coaching.
Where are Chuck's guarantees ??????????
Shaq mentioned before that he doesn't listen to coaches that doesn't have G14 classification, and that they don't know what they're talking about when it comes to coaching them to championship, which is to why he respects Phil a lot as his coach. C'mon now Shaq.
Shaq: Coaching doesn't matter. **coach proceeds to bench someone who's on fire** Me: Coaching DOES matter lol

Doc really like getting on the edge. Remember the 08 Celtics almost got eliminated by the Hawks in game 7 of the first round too!!!
Doc is so pathetic man. Throwing that Magic roster under the bus like that is awful.
The Miami Heat would not be the number one seed with a team of LA Fitness ballers if it weren’t for Erik Spoelstra. Head Coaches are very important.
Doc was speaking facts about the magic but no excuses for the other blown 3-1 leads
Thank you and no excuse for why they lost to the nuggets in the bubble NONE AT ALL
Back when lob city was formed and got doc from Boston I was on the hype train since then I've noticed hes an average coach who's been hyped up so much for winning in 08
I agree wit both. Unless you did something insane players gotta take responsibility in blowing a 3-1 lead. U don't need your coach to hold ur hand and get u ready to play. U kno the plays and what to do. When players get tight and nervous and can't hit the rim anymore that ain't the coach
I can''t tell what was Kenny trying to say.
He was trying to say they should ask that question if they lose game 6 but he muffed it 😂
He actually said it clearly. Focus on game 6 because it’s a close out game. You aren’t going to get eliminated on game 6. Worry about game 7 only if there is a game 7.
I swear he think he all that if it wasn’t for Kobe and d wade. 😂😂😂😂 ain’t going to say much
Finals MVP Shaq - 3 Kobe - 2 Wade - 1 🤨
If you lose 3-4 consecutive play off games to the same team, it is the coach's fault. If the coach couldn't make good adjustment from game to game then it is their fault 100%. A 7 game series is a coaching battle, which coach will make good adjustments then the other coach will counter next game.
It's easy to say coaching doesn't matter when you had 2 of the best coaches n history
"Coaching doesnt matter" Tell that to Brian Hill and Del Harris 😆
Tickets for second round already on sale in Philly
It’s on coaching, there’s like a 10 min span where the lead climbs from 2 to 6 to 14 to 20. At some point coaching has to figure out how to stop the run, as re-evaluate the situation in a 2 min timeout.
the Biggest problem for the Sixers other than lack of killer instinct is the narrative on them. First of all EVERYONE (with the exception of Shaq who predicted a sweep) doubted they would even get past the first round. With the way they ended their season against equaly matched and better teams..people were SKEPTICAL they would get past the Raptors playing the way they did. ALMOST EVERYONE FELT LIKE THAT. Then they quickly went up 3-0 and everyone changed thier tune and said they were contenders again! The reality is this series was ALWAYS going to be hard fought...its just that everyone was surprised they were in a position to sweep it. Had the series went Sixers win game 1 Raptors win 2 Sixers win 3 Raptors win 4 Sixers win 5 and thats how its 3-2 NO ONE would be talking about Rivers as a bad coach or his history of collapse etc etc... So the Sixers actually are where theyre supposed to be at this point in the first round. It IS a hard fought match up and the drama is completely overblown for the most part.
The fact is they didn't go tit for tat, sixers sprinted into a 3-0 lead, and with only one single game needed to close it out, they haven't been able to
@@solidstatedrive and we're back to a lack of killer instinct. True elite teams and perennial contenders to the throne know how to close out a series. Ask boston.
Shaq acting like Phil Jackson just gave him the ball and said “go 3 peat for me” 😂
Phil jack probably did but phil jackson was a manipulative mastermind so he figured thats all he needed to tell shaw himself. Thats coaching. Bringing the best of out different personalities. Kobe didnt need the same type of coaching shaq did
Shaq had PHIL JACKSON lmao
Kenny can't think straight anymore after that bus driver comment.
Imagine a conversation between Shaq and Phil, and Shaq tells Phil that his coaching didn’t matter at all in those title runs. Cmon dude.
Coaching does matter and Shaq knows it. What Shaq is arguing is that if you're up 3-1 and you end up losing that series, don't be blaming the coach. Shaq says that it's ultimately up to the players to win. And if the players end up losing a 3-1 lead, the players are the ones that should be taking responsibility and not the coach. Although, I can somewhat understand this sentiment, I do believe it's a full team effort, and that includes the coaches.
Maybe they’re all right...I feel like they’re arguing different things tho lol
I'm black and from Boston and we love Doc. Since 80s when he played at UMASS Boston. Coach can only do so much as athletes and former athletes know this. It's not like Doc actually shoots the ball, passes it, get rebounds, or dive for loose balls anymore. He has his blame sure, but not as much as the dudes who actually played.
The way Shaq said "SO WHAT?!?" 🤣🤣🤣
Coaching does matter at certain times but it's up to the players
i love that " driving the bus" is a common phrase everyone use now🤣
Kenny and Chuck misunderstand shaq context : when you're up 3-0 and losing, it's on the player not the coach. Shaq never say coaching don't matter in general.
Remind me again how any university thought Shaq was smart enough to get a degree from them... And that not just one did 🤦♂️. I'd drag my head down in shame for the rest of my life.
Shaq pulling a Kyrie on TNT lol
If players miss open shots it is not on the couch. period. you can not step inside the game and make the shots for them. Yes, you can try to improvise and make some changes. But at the end of the day it is the players who have to make the shots. If the team is being outplayed and if it struggles to create shooting opportunities it is on the coach. But I actually don't remember this being the case with coach Rivers.
I see it from both perspectives the coaches are not out there playing defense or making shots. As for Shaq when things go wrong the coach during the regular season and the playoffs if the team underperforms players will get blame but the coach will usually get fired. They're not out there playing defense or not making shots it's the players job to go out there and give it all they got. But sometimes that doesn't always happen so they look at the coach. You can coach players to play the right way but you can't coach passion, determination, Pride, and competitive spirit. As for Chuck and Kenny I understand where they're coming from were coaching matters because I remember a It was the Lakers against the Utah Jazz. Mike D'Antoni was the coach at the time and it was clear the Lakers were going to lose that game and Kobe had the stare of death towards Mike D'Antoni. He was Furious because in Kobe's Mind He's like you don't know what the hell you're doing. That is an example of how coaching matters same with the Warriors they had a losing record for a long time then Mark Jackson comes along and instills confidence in a young Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. From day one he called them the best Shooters in the world they started to turn it around and build a foundation. And then we all know what happens Steve Kerr comes in picked up where Mark Jackson left off.
The way Shaq said “so what??” Lmaooo
Doc telling people how great he is. Very humble.
“No, no, no, no it does not matter” - Shaq’s only line for the second half of the vid😂
the fact doc is getting defensive when the person asked the question u know he is feeling the pressure right now this game is going 7 mark my words if the sixers blow a 3-0 lead sell the team the organization and all the players clean house.
Shaq always has a hot take, I feel like I disagree with him on so many things lately.
You need coaching especially if the opposing team game plans against you. But, if you have a very high IQ, are extraordinarily skilled and dominant coaching won't matter much to you. There are only a few players who meet those criteria.
Doc needs to MOTIVATE this group. Even though they are grown men and professionals, all men who are not leaders, need to be led.
damn Kenny put it perfectly lol Shaq felt that for sure
Coaches and Players should take W or L equally....blowing leads ain't just Doc Rivers fault
It’s weird that Shaq doesn’t realize that Phil was integral to him winning in LA and Riley and Spoel were huge in Miami too. Hall of fame coaches.
I agree with Shaq I put 30% on the coach and 70% on the players if you blow a 3-1 lead. People blame coaches for these players not stepping up.
Chuck said nah for 40 seconds straight 😂😂😂😂
Man wtf Shaq on 🤣
The pressure is on
Phil Jackson taught y’all the triangle offense. There’s no plays that are ran. It’s the triangle. Just a bunch of back door cuts to the goal.
Shaq saying Phil didn't matter is crazy
Shaq acting like he didn’t have 2 of the best coaches of all time when he won his championships
Literally
Kenny stubborn as hell, Shaq too
This is the same shaq who said they needed Pat Riley to keep them calm because Stan Van Gundy wasn’t good at that He just be talking to times to be the ultimate couturier
Shaq is clutch at taking a weak argument and clinging to it for dear life
Shaq coming from a mind state of individual accountability. He was also a dominant player in his prime, knowing the onus was on him either way. But he also understands that the coach isn't playing, YOU the player is. And coaching is really about bringing out the best in those players, not just putting them, with strategy, a position to win. You up 3-1 and you lose the series...80% of that is player malfeasance and %20 of coaching malfeasance. Strategy only works within the players abilities. If the player isn't playing up to his abilities, especially if healthy is ALL ON THE PLAYER.
I did not read that title all the way through. Clicked on the video anyway.. I-
I think shaq is thinking from a superstar perspective. Coaching is more important for setting up role players and defensive planning. Now I do think it’s more so on the players if they lose a 3-1 lead like that. Unless a key adjustment was made and never countered by the other coach at all.
Doc Rivers and James Harden together doubles the chances of a historic playoff choke
They're both right. It's up to the players right now. They decide if they're gonna lose this series. It's up to them right now, but if they lose it's an easy scapegoat to blame Doc because it's happened before.
Doc with the albinauric mask
Shaq is right in saying if you’re 3-1 up and then you end up losing the series then it probably isn’t a coaching issue. The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the finals but we’re not going to blame Steve Kerr for that. Him saying that coaching is completely irrelevant though is just completely wrong. He was coached by two of the greatest NBA coaches of all time in Phil Jackson, and Pat Riley who both lead dynasties. I’m actually shocked he holds that opinion considering he was coached by two GOATs.
Kenny actually made a good point. Why even entertain that question? Just go into game 6 with the mindset that you’re up 3-2.
Shaq is saying the players have to step up and play better. Coaching helps but it is not the only part. Players have to execute.
