They really are and I am definitely going with an electric car from them in the next two years. Just waiting for the charging network to catch up.
you ever think to yourself how they made all that possible in just a few years?? that's because they stole IP from every major manufacturer there is.
So is Kia. Their new designs, both ICE and electric are beautiful Man.

I've had mine since February and it continues to impress me. First Hyundai ever and really impressed by build quality, ride and handling, and commitment to the EV cause on behalf of the brand - and I love the fact that it looks like a cross between the Audi S1 and a Lancia Delta.

That was the coolest intro I’ve ever seen from this channel. I love your teams’ commitment to improving the quality of your content.
I do wish they showed some shots of the HUD
I gotta disagree that Hyundais change in reputation started with this, in the last 20 years theyve brought on Peter Schreyer, ex head of design at Audi, and Albert Biermann from BMW M division to head the Hyundai N performance division, and for the last few years theyve made some of the best cheap performance cars in the Veloster N and now the Elantra N, along with some of the best bang for your buck luxury cars ever made with Genesis. I agree with basically everything you said about this car, its great, but its definitely not the thing that made Hyundai great out of the blue, they've been building towards this for years now.
Agree 100%. Hyundai does deserve some credit for their climb to this point, but this was indeed a widely accepted vault to near the top of its class while a lot of people still don't like Hyundai gas cars for some reason.
@@ChristianRunsNY reliability, basically anyone can build an electric car though
Down in Latin America they have earned a great reputation in the last 15 years as they have good quality-price ratio and repairing one is affordable. Plus it isn't a pain in the ass like many other brands where the pieces and repair shops are a dealership monopoly
@@ChristianRunsNY Hyundai (and sister Kia) ICE cars are highly regarded in Europe, across the range. Genesis however with the high-end stuff, will never be taken as seriously as it should be. Above a certain price point, European buyers are stubbornly brand sensitive - Mercedes/BMW/Audi/Range Rover RULE the mid-to-high end, no matter how much bang for buck, or qualitatively better a Genesis may be. SK are simply following the pattern so perfectly executed by Japan, 50 - 60 years ago. Deliver high quality and feature set at the right price...
The "Hyundai is cheap crap cars" reputation died a long while ago imo. I think they've been great since around the time of the last Sonata redesign honestly.
I like the design of this EV. It looks fresh and futuristic. Especially pixels lights
But does it run. Who cares about lights.

I love all the detail the editors pay attention to for these videos, the intro was great, the fade-ins on point and the partially frozen background (at least I assume so) helped keep the focus on Marques, just great production quality!
While having a great in-car map would be fantastic, I think that Google and Apple Maps need to prepare for EVs. If they are not easy to use with the type of vehicle that is going to take an exponentially larger share of the market, then they are going to be left behind. (I don't think they will be left behind, I think they will adapt eventually, but it should be sooner than later)
Google is, and I'm sure Apple is too given all the talk about the car teams we've been hearing about. Ford will be replacing their native UI with Android Auto soon. Issue here is that the phone based apps don't integrate with the car, they are essentially just running remote screen from your phone on your car's display. So they don't know about the car state of charge or what its capabilities are. Ideal situation would be that the CarPlay and Android Auto from the phone could tap into some API's that the car exposes to enable the range and charger mapping situation.
@@curtisbme Have you seen the next generation apple carplay that was unveiled recently? It basically does that. Takes control of everything in the car
Apple Maps has some sort of EV tie in for the Mach E, but as far as I can tell, only for the Mach E. Not sure why, but hopefully that will change in the near future.
@@curtisbme absolutely. Standardizing a way for the phone to gather all the data it needs from cars is what is needed. Hopefully they can find a way to do it. Granted, I don't expect Apple and Google to collaborate on anything so the best case scenario we can hope for is two disparate standards for the two different platforms.
I'd at least love software that allows data communication between eachother seemlessly. This way, even if apple and android auto are the so great, third parties could have something to contribute or compete with them.
It's really cute, funky, and a mixture of futuristic and retro. Such a unique looking EV!

I went to the LA Auto Show a week or so ago and got to ride around in this inside. To me, this is a modern interpretation of what someone from 1986 might've thought an electric car would look like. I love it's stylish. It's very large inside and it's a very practical size.
This was my recommended car for one of my friends. He bought it some moth ago and he really loves it. Perfect small family EV. Backseats can be reclined, sweet charging animation and a blindspot camera while pulling over to just name a few. Pretty neat car in my opinion
small? lol it's the size of a crossover
It’s definitely not small 😅 It’s the same size as an ID4. This car is big!
Small? Have you seen it in real life? This design is so deceptive. When you stand next to it you look like a dwarf. Might be nice design but it's not a good design. Typical Korean product. They have no idea about what makes a good design.

That opening could be taught in film schools. Then I realized where it was filmed and am now in awe of how you managed to make the area I used to drive in so much look so cinematic. Amazing job!

Glad you got to try it and enjoyed it! Don't forget, though, Hyundai has been quietly dipping their toes in electrified and electric cars for a few years now, kind of an alpha test before the full pure electric-only Ioniq 5 (and 6 and 7 etc.). I owned the immediate precursor to this, the Ioniq Electric (there was also the Ioniq Hybrid which is more common in the US, as well as the Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid), and it was also really well-made, though certainly a previous generation (or "alpha version") electric car. There was also the Kona electric, so Hyundai certainly had a few models to practice with.
Don't forget their Kia cars like the soul ev, and the niro
The Kona Electric has been great, but using the Bluelink app for remote lock or climate control is downright terrible. Sluggish, buggy, and slow to respond. I really hope they step up their game in that regard.
@@JayLew91 Thanks, I didn't forget them, I just didn't want to get too detailed hehe but thanks for mentioning them. ;-)
@@PlaneAwesome I hope so too. Myself, I used the Korean BlueLink app, and it was flawless. Hope they work out the kinks in other countries' versions too. What was a bit frustrating was that because Google Maps has been limited for so many years in Korea (yes even South Korea because of local laws), Android Auto doesn't use it for its navigation, instead turning to kakaonavi. I ended up using a mix of the car's native maps, Google Maps on my phone, and local Korean map apps to get around, depending on the situation.
The Kia Soul EV was really hitting that decent range, decent package, decent price point when Kia killed it in the US due to chip shortages, and focused instead on the higher price point EV6. I mean, that's fair, but it was also a shot in the foot in terms of getting EVs in the hands of of people like me. And I really want an EV.
Waze can do charge planing btw and its great replacement for the built in nav
Happy to hear! Does Waze work with the HUD?
8:05 I think this assessment of Hyundai in the last 3-5 years is from someone that doesn't particularly stay in tune with the automotive space. Hyundai has been gaining market share and overall positive brand awareness for really the last 5-7 years but especially within the last 3 years. Their talent acquisition and products have been on the rise for many years now and it has shown in sales. The Ioniq 5 was just one of the more recent accomplishments but the Ioniq 5 was not the sole reason for a change in Hyundai.
Hyundai cannot scale up quick enough to get a meaningful market share. While BYD and Tesla are poised to crank out 5M-10M cars a year, Hyundai will be lucky to reach a capacity of 100K a year. They do not have the lithium contracts even to cover the battery cost. Tesla and BYD both place orders of $100BN a year for their batteries. I bet Hyundai is still at $20MN a year. I do not think Hyundai installed capacity will approach of 1% of overall EV volume. Good car, but not a serious EV contender - by their own estimates.
you have to AVOID LG battery.
They've also been selling EVs for years, sounds like he thinks this is their first EV.
Came here to say this. He's clearly someone that's comfortably within the Tesla reality-distortion-field (and there's nothing wrong with that) and has practically zero perception of the "real world" as it pertains to cars. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have been killing it for over a decade now. They've had very competitive vehicles in almost every category in which they compete, cutting edge styling (whether an individual likes it, or not, is subjective), top-tier tech (for the respective category/price class)... etc, etc, etc. This isn't even their first competitive EV (although it is their first widely available, "high volume" model).
@@veerkar Its not trying to be solely an electric car company like Tesla tho, their recent N performance cars have been fantastic, Hyundai i30N & the i20N have been pretty successful in the sports industry.
Hyundai has been making an EV for a long time, the IONIQ. They were some of the first legacy automakers to have a really good EV with the IONIQ (not IONIQ 5)
You're right, but the Ionic wasn't a really great car... Charging and acceleration were really slow and the design was really outdated. But yeah, if was an early electric car.
All true. But it is worth mentioning that Ioniq was just an electrified version of ICE/hybrid models. Ioniq 5 was the first one build on an EV platform from scratch. I see a loooot of them on the streets last couple of months and it’s always a joy to look at.
@@GhostLetsHack Really slow? 0-100km/h in 7,9s isn't slow at all if you ask me. You need a reasonable fast ICE to do it quicker.
@@hermanstokbrood Wow, it was that quick? I didn't know that. I test drove an Ionic 2018 and it felt really slow

I think the one can feature you did not mention here is 110 V outlets. This is huge to me, I can charge or use any appliance normally, I could go camping and use an electric stove if I wanted to. This is something that should just be standard in all electric vehicles and the only other vehicles that have this are the pickuptrucks so far, Good on hyundai for including this.
im glad you came around to the ioniq5, I don't own either however I have driven both and I prefer the ioniq5 over the model 3 or y in looks ,ride and style I still give charging infrastructure and quickness to Tesla but that's it , glad to see an unbiased review from someone who is not a Tesla fan boy, you may love Tesla but you can be fair to others great review

Agree, Hyundai are the top selling brand in Israel for the past five years. We don't have a car industry so we don't choose "local" brands as they do in the US, Germany, France and Japan. People simply buy the best value cars.

This is my favorite EV and when I first seen the design I instantly loved it. I see them a lot here in Southern California. I will agree that the interior is the weakest point. I wish they let you get a black infotainment system or at least reduce the amount of bezel. And all new EVs need to support the fast charging that Hyundai/Kia support.
I also seen plenty of these in Ca , the white looks amazing.
Oh yes, I agree. The designs either from inside or outside are so futuristic and also yep I literally like it. I guess they will come out with a smaller bezel in the facelift model. Ioniq 6 was released with much smaller bezel.
The two things we need for EVs to finally reach mainstream acceptance are sub-$30k vehicles and doubling the number of charging stations available (and make sure they all work)
Yeah charging stations are currently the biggest hurdle that electric vehicles are going to need to overcome. @@jayfloramusic I know about him, but hiring him doesn't mean that Hyundai move their design division from Korea to Germany. The division still in Korea. Also, he'd worked for Hyundai group for a long time (2006 ~2021) with their design team which is mostly consist of Korean designers. They've improved their design together for many years, so you can't say like 'It's Germany how Hyundai has made cool designs since a few years ago.'
Seeing a fair few of them on melbournes roads (australia) and it looks amazing
100% on your point on design. Imagine if the Chevy Bolt, a solid EV, if it looked anything close to as cool as the Ionic 5. 🔥
Bolt is waaayy smaller of a car though
I think that it looks terrible to be honest, it looks a lot better in the video but in person it seems cheap and plasticky to me
The new Bolt looks way better
@@vitkrivan9380 nah it’s about the same size
The Chevy Bolt isn't a good BEV, unlike the Ioniq 5, it has class leading charging speeds, something the Bolt is far far away from...
I've seen a lot of these in my city aswell I really like the design, seems like one of the best looking ev's so far
i don't understand how u make so stupidly good videos like this regularly!! much appreciated 👍
Kudos to your editor. That intro was worth watching multiple times
I bought one of these and have been seriously impressed with it. Allegedly they are updating the UI to do State of Charging route planning.
This is the first EV I've fell in love with but that 40k price tag is soul crushing.
40k? They base model is 49k easily smh
@@bachataking21 The base model is 39k ya dink, the top end dual motor big battery one with the most tech is barely 2 grand over 49k lol
completly agree. 25 is very doable but 40 is years off for me.
@@jesselowe5346 39k? Yea okay with a price markup they no where near 39k I know I been trying to purchase one. And also u can't factory order one. So you screwed with paying this crazy amount
@@jesselowe5346 lmfaoooo a sel awd is 51k n isn't even new at a local delearship. Check your facts first
Great video! Looking forward for IONIQ 6 hands on or review!!!
Pretty new to this channel, I like this guy and how he articulates things.
Hyndai in my experience is one of the best mid range cars with amazing features, though I wouldn't agree with ford being on of the good ones outside US. They have mostly been outclassed and withdrawn from most markets and have little to no sales again outside US.
I thought it was sarcastic when he said it XD
If he said Toyota or VW. I'd be like ok... but Ford, LOL.
just like ford did in india
ford left brazil
Ford is still in the UK sadly, they're pieces of junk man. There's a reason why Hyundai has made major strides and picked apart at market share across the globe. In the developing world, they're great, cheap to repair, cheap to run, and in the developed world, they're even better, cheap to repair, cheap to run, and still have all the fancy crap we can expect.
Production quality on this video was top notch, love to see you putting this level of effort in, (clear that not all videos can get this treatment right now)
Sick transition in intro✨✨
I have one of these in the RWD format with the slick factory matte paint. Amazing range (~500km per charge for me), razor sharp design, unreal charging speed, and I'm 6'5" and the interior space and legroom is brilliant. I've used it on multiple long (1,000 km+) trips in the boonies and mountains of Canada with no regrets. Even did a comparison on a relatively long (900 km) trip and it saved me more than 60% of fuel costs while only adding approximately 40 minutes to my trip time. My only real complaint is that I wish the sound system was better. My other car is an older Lexus with a Mark Levinson and it smokes the IONIQ's sound system. Other than that, I've had it since December 2021 and it has been breaking necks everywhere I go since. Don't buy this car if you don't want to talk to people because people will come running over to talk to you about it.
What made you choose this over the similarly sized Tesla model Y?
are you me? I have the exact same car, in Canada. did 15K on it since we got it NYE.
@@vincentlee4903 Cost? I am guessing. An AWD Ionic 5 is a good 10k-12k cheaper than Model Y.
ok
@@vincentlee4903 a handful of reasons. Canada offers a rebate on this car, I received the car within a week of ordering, and I got it below MSRP. Plus, I previously owned a Kia and I liked it.
In google maps you can add what type of electric plugs your vehicle accepts and when you search for charge stations it’ll show just then the compatible stations. So from there just plan for stops just like any other car.
I am OBSESSED with the taillights on this thing! SO cool.
Love the name for your car channel, so clever 🙌🏼
The intros on these videos are sooo fricking amazing!!! Can't believe how much work they put into them.
