  • Watching Anna's mom in NY was the first chess video that popped up on my feed and it totally captured my interest. That was a couple months ago and I've learned a lot for someone who doesn't play. I watch the moves on the board now that it makes sense to me. I played with my dad when I was young but that was sixty years ago. Thank you Anna! Your mom is adorable and you as well.

I can see how he could be seen as rude, cocky or carrying a bad attitude, but speaking from experience, and I'm not joking when I say this; he's showing he likes her. Being comfortable enough to chuck tongue-in-cheek comments at someone is a strong indicator that a Brit likes you.

    • @@DeedatFX O sure, he was a sporting gentleman! No comments there. What I am alluding to was his little routine about "I am bad at chess, I don't know how to lose....". That little routine that probably impresses his classmates, but not a WM of nearly 2200 rating, betrays the overconfidence of the youngster that can easily be shaken because it is not based on facts. As you said yourself. "He just has confidence in his skills but unfortunately doesn't have much to back it up". That is exactly what it is about. True confidence is based on facts/ skills and it comes with experience and self knowledge. And that takes time and many lost games.

  • Kinda cool for masters to play hustlers in the same vain, Alireza just played a small simul on agad's channel and almost lost to a nobody. Hyper chaotic game, 2 brilliants and 6 great moves in the Kings indian. This is either great Cheater content, or a great game to cover! In the same event, Alireza did a pawn stalemate against a lone king that is funnier than any guess the elo episode! Should definitely make a video about the simul.

  • An old trick that works more often than not among casual players... hold the black piece more lightly than the white piece and opponent often thinks you are holding the piece you want more tightly. Basically if you want to be defense hold the black piece less tightly. If you want to be first to move hold it like you don't want the opponent to grab it...

  • Anna is interested in meeting all kinds of people through chess. She is polite and engaged, which makes it fun to watch her youtube series. But Boris' lack of grace rubbed her the wrong way. I have never seen her so eager to put an opponent into his place. Because of his bravado and trash talk you would expect Boris to be a stronger player, or at least have a few tricks up his sleeve, but he has no imagination on the chess board. Anna was happy to point out that his moves were just defensive, boring, and losing.

    • I know! It brought out a sharp edge in her playing. I don't know enough chess to tell if she was making better moves than usual, but she was definitely slaughtering him in a way I haven't seen her do to other opponents. And she did it all with some acerbic wit, a wink, and a smile.
