"if there's one thing this year has taught us we need a powerful ON THE GO computer" but where are we going lol
the kitchen? The liquor store? You know, everywhere!
EXACTLY. This motivation is so wrong and flawed I dont know where to start. The literal opposite of what he claims is true.
Gotta be able to work on the toilet, lol
Not far or not for long since he has not mentioned the battery life ;) OK, it's a gaming laptop but laptop nonetheless... Only with i7-10750h/10850h/10980hk and 2080S under the keys you can't expect it to last for long while in use for... work or leisure. Were it sold as a DTR we could treat the battery as just another integrated feature/device - UPS ;) - and just leave at that, but this is a laptop, supposedly even very mobile and quite thin for a powerful device. BTW. If it were mainly destined for a workplace it'd be having the Thinkpad branding, possibly being the P-line... but those cost a lot more for the internals that are offered. And those can get the extended double battery options with which you could really go far... ;)

I got the Y740 a few months ago for a work trip that’s a few months long to play some games while away from home and I love it. Definitely the best laptop I’ve ever had
I used a Lenovo y500 for 7 years or so up until August when I built my new desktop PC. it was running dual GT650 in SLI and up until SLI started to not be supported I could run everything. I really do have a warm place in my heart for Lenovo Gaming. So nice to see they are continuing to do well.
Everyone wants gaming laptops that don't look like a gaming laptop.
I want a laptop with active stylus support that actually has a non-shit graphics card in it and looks and has the sheer reliability and functionality of a Toughbook. I don't care how chunky it is.
@@arnox4554 you are asking for something impossible. The most similar thing is an ipad pro. I want a g14 with color accuracy, touchscreen and a webcam. I just decided to have a laptop and an ipad pro, because I like drawing in a descent screen.

I've yet to see a corporate world where people bring in their own laptops. Especially one that they will let you mix games and work on.
From a standpoint of security this is a horrible idea. Also, having a mixture of devices means different manufacture updates to deal with (BIOS, Chipset, etc). It also makes troubleshooting so much harder, when something works on one laptop or device but not another. It's way better for corporate to buy one type of device to support (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Mac).
My firm does. Separate networks.

I'm getting a Legion 5 - R7 based on this review. I need something for light video editing and general office tasks and the price to performance is hard to ignore. Thanks Jay!
Thanks for the laptop ad Jay. Not what I was hoping for
I've used this same laptop for the past few months for work and gaming and could not agree more! Some things he did not mention, battery life is surprisingly good (6hours+ unplugged) due to the hybrid graphics (uses iGPU for less demanding apps). Also the trackpad is big and accurate. The display is very bright and as mentioned the fans are not obtrusive (thanks not only to them being less loud but also lower pitch and more proactive instead of constantly ramping up and down). Basically, this laptop has amazing performance but also great quality of life. Only thing I don't like is the HDR, it seem to be a bit off (oversaturated), needs some tuning before you can leave it on all the time.
hdr needs hybrid mode to be off, it looks amazing on that. with hybrid mode it looks shit

I always like the dicreet look of Lenovo laptops, the ports in the back is amazing. My top concern with laptops is always the cooling system but damn, they went above and beyond on this one.
The new ones are supposedly even better. It's insane 🤯. My 7 (2021) in quite mode gets great framerate and super low fan noise, with volume at like 20 I can get immersed in games without the noise breaking my focus :) . My old laptop sounded like a fighter jet so for me this is super magical.
These laptops are excellent. I had to deploy seven of them last year and have been supporting them ever since [Office IT guy]. They work well and the extra power is super handy. Definitely run better than some of the first desktops I built.

The Cpu throttles all the time at 94C.
Mine do that plus two dead pixel :( but to be accurate it’s not thermal throttling it’s more of boost speed thermal throttling. The max boost speed for that CPU is 4.7 but it can’t reach that in such a small factor. It was absolutely amazing.. with less travel due to Covid, I sold it for half what I paid and built a home office gaming tower(9700kf @5.1, strix 2070super + 115/600, 16gb 3200 on a z390-p).. love the tower but with travel restrictions easing in Australia, I recently spent 2 weeks in hotel quarantine for work stuck with my company provided HP LAGtop.. never have I ever regretted selling something so much.. 2 weeks in quarantine with a laptop barely able to run Overwatch in 720p at 40fps.. then Doom Eternal Ancient Gods dropped during my quarantine and I had no hope.. When you find that gaming laptop that serves you well and does everything you need it to do and more.. don't..let..it ..go.. trust me. Hope you keep that one Jay
Your laptop configuration is a really nice one, but here in Canada, to buy one, it is over $4K without taxes. Great video! Wish I could afford one.
@JayzTwoCents can you do a series on monitors. I feel like no one talks about them unless something special just released. Talk about panel types, Grey to grey, latency, etc...finding a review on a monitor that isn't the top dog is impossible. Give monitors so more love.
