Modern democracy and education have both been heavily influenced by the Scots. Many of the American Founding Fathers received their educations from Scottish teachers or Presbyterian academies, so their ideas about government and the role of citizens in government were directly influenced by Scottish thinking. Plus, for being from such a small country the Scots have invented or been involved in developing a crazy amount of technology and scientific ideas/theories.

    • That's a lie. Most Scots voted to leave the union in 2014. Those born in Scotland voted to leave, but the vote was won for the union by those living in Scotland, but born elsewhere in the union. Don't take me at my word, easy to find on google. And even now the polls are split 50/50, and higher among Scots themselves. Two out of every three people in Scotland under the age of 35 support independence. Half of all those under 55 do. And fewer than 20% of us identify as British in any way. Two thirds identify as Scottish-only.

  • I think Scottish people and culture has been shaped largely by the shite weather, history and work. The weather means we have to be hardy but, like the weather, also makes people a bit dour and miserable for (at least) half the year. Scotland´s history, and especially having an arrogant superpower on our doorstep, meant we had to be tough just to survive as a nation for over a thousand years. And the kind of working class jobs that existed - coal, steel, ship building, farming harsh land - also created a camaraderie and a solidarity among people that makes Scotland far more receptive to egalitarianism and socialist ideals than our southern neighbours for example. Community spirit has always been strong as you will see when Scotland finally breaks free from the UK. And a combination of all these factors leads Scots to enjoy every opportunity to drink and party whenever possible.

    • You don't have a chip on your shoulder bill, no there is no shoulder left, all gone. Have you ever been to places like Bolton, Newcastle, Bradford or even Birmingham or Bristol? They all speak differently to Scots but think the same way as you and most Scots. Once Covid is gone or you've had the vacc get out of Scotland and witness for yourself. Indy = Skint like Croatia, Moldova etc
