  • As an American, I absolutely love the Glaswegian accent. It makes everything sound unintentionally hilarious. I worked with a guy who was from a village outside of Glasgow and when he got pissed off about something and was venting it was so hard not to piss myself laughing every time. I had never heard of Fern before, but I'll definitely be checking out more of her bits.

    @Brando56894@Brando568944 ай бұрын
    • Another comedian to check out is Limmy. He is from Glasgow, while Fern is from Bathgate, West Lothian. I'm not from Scotland myself, so I don't know how people from Bathgate react if you call their accent "glaswegian". :D

      @LordHorst@LordHorst4 ай бұрын
    • I agree! And it's even funnier when the person speaking with that accent doesn't look like they would have that accent. At least, I wouldn't expect someone looking like Fern to have a heavy Glaswegian accent, lol.

    • Yeah, I get that distances in Europe must seem laughably small for an American. When you drive 5 hours, you are still in the same state. In Europe you can easily travel through 5 different countries in the same amount of time. :D Edinburgh and Glasgow have very different accents (look up interviews with Shirley Manson, who is from Edinburgh. While still having a clear scottish accent she sounds nothing like Fern or Limmy). But as I've said, I'm not from Scotland either, so what I say here might be complete horsesh... anyway. It's just that I made the mistake of calling an accent "glaswegian" once and then got a few angry responses from Scots telling me that the accent comes from small town to the south of Glasgow and sounds totally different from Glaswegian, haha. I was just trying to give you a small heads-up. :D@@Brando56894

    • I’m waiting for it to come in. Her background is fascinating. Autism is a spectrum of disorders that manifest themselves in entirely different ways depending on the person. Liz Miele, another comic, is autistic. So is Catharine Brennan - an MIT professor who has a great backstory. One of my daughter close friends is autistic.. and both of my daughters work with special needs individuals at various points on the spectrum. Interesting but not for me.

She's a beacon of success for autisic people in comedy, whose whole deal is being socially underdeveloped despite being intelligent and capable. And to add to that, she's a woman. Autism in women is severely underdiagnosed and greatly misunderstood. Her existence and openness about her condition and how she's coped is going to help a lot of women, and likely save a lot of lives. She's bloody fantastic.

  • Funny thing happened (to me)…. I’m American and quite a bit older than most of the audience on line… yet, as I was reading all the comments, I realized that I was reading them in my head WITH A SCOTTISH ACCENT!!! This never happens to me with any other comedian regardless of their nationality or how pronounced their accent is. Did this happen to anyone else? It was like I got a temporary Scottish accent filter stuck in my ears (head) . Maybe it was because I really had to try hard to understand her. Please say something… reply to this comment if it happened to you. I would really appreciate it.

    • Gen X American here. Yes, I was also reading in a Scottish accent, and didn't realize it until I read your comment!

    • I was totally shocked to find out not everyone has a voice in their head that makes observations and commentary on the events in the outside world. Having said that, everything I read has an accent... after reading a lot of comments on the internet, they usually start with an American accent, but that can morph into almost anything given context, and the first signs of intelligence and empathy completely cure the American accent,lol. Apologies to Americans who aren't already my friends, those who are my friends are smart enough to know that it's a joke, and a natural segue from those in the set we are meant to be commenting on, lolagain.

  • 😂😂😂sorry kept sort of thinking I now see where Michael Myers got the idea for his Scottish accent. I thought he was exaggerating. It helped me understand you, Ms Brady but loved you easier thanks to him. Thank you ❤️😊❤️
