    • Heat stroke is super dangerous because it can sneak up on you. It can difficult to delineate the line of heat exhaustion (which is often unavoidable when training at higher levels of sports in hot weather) vs. pushing yourself into a lethal heat stroke. Running a marathon in heat that melts plastic bottles is insane, but super motivating to watch him pull it off. I’ll think about this the next time I start feeling to lazy to get something done!

Work is rather far away and while I wasn't exactly running I did set a decently quick marching pace of almost running (guessing about 7 or 8 kmh). My shoes are not exactly made for long distance travel, so my feet were already hurting pretty bad at about halfway to work. Then, after work, when I was back home and finally able to remove my shoes, first thing I noticed was my right sock being somewhat wet, second thing I noticed was that my right shoe had a decent bit of blood in them and my right heel was missing a small patch of skin of like half a cm in diameter that had been rubbed off by the shoe while I was walking. So it was like a blister, but without the top part that usually keeps the blood and other liquid inside. lmao.

  • Heyyy I hope you read this for your knees: I'm a dancer and have seen and heard of many different kind of injuries.. Please be careful because your feet and knees are not properly aligned when you run. Your toes point away from the center of your body while your knees just point forward normally. Unfortunately this comes from the fact that in climbing shoes your toes get pushed together very tightly so most prominently your big toe and your small toe don't hold your weight as they normally should. So if you don't actively try to adjust by making sure your feet point forward it's your knees or more precisely your meniscus who pays the toll. Once that one tears it's really unlikely to recover to 100% so... Take good care please

    • I disagree to some extent, I think it's more a testament as to what the human body is capable of, not just professional atheltes. I think there is a tendency to see videos this and think that it's only possible for those who spent years almost exclusively training at an early age, and that us normal people can't really ever do stuff like this. But in my experience that is really not the case! I ran my first marathon on a dare with zero training, and though it wasn't fast by any stretch of the imagination I still managed to finished it on the pure youth hubris of "why shouldn't I be able to jog slowly for 4 hours". A few years later I was serving my military service and we did a mandatory 48 hour march over mountaineous terrain for the entire squadron. Even the ones in the worst shape, and I'm talking truly abysmal shape like overweight and 23 min on the 3k test, but they still managed to finish. It was FAR harder than any marathon I've run, and I'd say even harder than a few of the Ironmans I've done, and still completely normal people were able to do it when they were pushed to it. I'm not saying anyone can do anything, but I'm saying most people can do far far more than they ever thought possible!

The only hard parts of life for me are the shit that nobody else thinks is hard; going to buy groceries, consistently making it to work, and all that bs. If I could make a living by pushing myself to my limits like a lot of youtubers do, I'd be the happiest version of myself. Sadly, its too goddamn 'hard' for me to put in the effort to get a small chance at that kind of lifestyle. My favorite parts of my runs are the last quarter mile, where the term 'give 100%' truly applies. Its always bugged me, that term. Its a complete fucking lie, if you give 100% in anything physical you have a few minutes worth max; try getting into a fight and see how you feel. 30 seconds, however; well shit, you can do anything for 30 seconds. Just feels so freeing, as if there aren't any constraints on my fleshly body, I can run as fast as my form and gravity allows.

Breathable, soft thick 100% cotton socks, and breathable running shoes. Could even add some holes. And you have to lace up somewhat tight, so your feet do not move around in them. Could have multiple pairs and chill them after they get hot. Dried apricots are good for providing enough potassium. And forget the potato chips. Celery with salt should be good. A spray bottle with water would be good. Someone in the car can spray you as you run. This is really an accomplishment for someone born in a very cold country. Congrats! • Seven years of satellite temperature data show that the Lut Desert in Iran is the hottest spot on Earth. The Lut Desert was hottest during 5 of the 7 years, and had the highest temperature overall: 70.7°C (159.3°F) in 2005, however your work is so amazing and entertainment

  • Nice work Magnus; having done a 50 mile backpacking trip in 3 days in DV, you're right, the heat is no joke there. Hold your head high, this is no easy feat in temperate weather, let alone DV.

  • It made me literally laugh out loud when he said he found out heat stroke actually happens. I imagine it's the same way I feel about imagining frostbite. Like... I know it's real but I can't ever imagine being that cold

  • I like the reason Magnus had for making this run, I cracked up. That run was no joke, running in that heat and conditions was easily like running 2-3 marathons, with no training but the will to not quit, that is what makes you great, that was amazing

  • It's weird but I quite enjoy the eerie silence at night in the middle of nowhere. It feels like you're alone in the world so everything you do, no one will care or know. It's blissful in the strangest way.

  • Man, it's crazy how fast Magnus looks and then you realize the record marathon is only 2 hours while Magnus is 8 and a half, those people are freaking speed demons. Respect to Magnus either way, finishing at all anywhere is impressive, but doing so in death valley is really cool!

  • Love how magnus goes out of his way to mention how he sprung the marathon question on Ozzy with only a days notice, and how cool he was to actually go with him. meanwhile he had the same 24 hours of mental preperation to go freeclimbing with Alex 😆

  • I've repeatedly dreamed of myself running for years. In my dreams it is easy. I haven't been able to actually run since I was a child. My knees went bad, and I'm a fall risk, even standing still. No kidding. Seventeen years ago I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. I have numerous other serious health issues. I'm now 66. I have no clue why I run long distances in my dreams, but it feels amazing. Seeing this video blew my mind! I felt like I was running with you! I've also seen your "Undercover" video, and loved it! Way to go!
