At least there's a video on the Internet that doesn't scare you about buying a used BMW. Thanks for the awesome info

The best car review I’ve ever watched. Very detailed
Thoroughly enjoyed the very detailed explanation and video buddy. Thank u so much. Being in the middle east, I have not much option with X5 engines. No Diesel and the 3.0 liter Engines are a rarity. But after watching and listening to u, i decided on the 2010 model rather than the 2008 model, which i had earlier decided. Thank u once again and God bless you for the patience and cool demeanor that u exude.
Excellent work my brother. Thank you. We need more videos from you. This is great work.
Excellent breakdown of the E70 family tree! I like your 214's w/o fender flares. I also have a 3.0i and plan to mount the same wheel/tire combo but wasn't sure if I needed the arches. Think I'm good now after seeing yours!
Absolutely the best review of this vehicle I've seen. Thank you. I love all the information you passed along. Very concise but also very detailed. Good references of your other videos. Most of the other videos I've found leave out a lot important information. Thank you once again thank you for this video.
This is an excellent video. You go through all the main questions that a person looking to purchase is wanting to ask. Thank you very much and yes i agree this generation from 2007-2013 is the best looking of the X5. Keep up the good work!
Thank you
Great video, I am buying a 2010 3.0 tomorrow, this video made me more comfortable buying it.
really , I would to thank you Man for this informative video.. I appreciate your effort spent with this video
Great video, but you forgot the DIESEL! I came for diesel info lol
Sorry I don’t work with diesels can’t give proper info
The diesel is the best engine!
If you doesn’t work with diesel, research and post some infos about the N57 diesels, including the M50d. That’s what you don’t understand! You made the review for you or for other people? This attitude can’t be accepted by me! Have a nice live and review whatever you like!

This is THE most informative video on x5 !
I absolutely love my 2009 X5 and while I’ve had it for over 7 years now, I hope I’ve got through the bulk of the major repairs. Learned a lot and you can do many of the repairs yourself. I’ve done gaskets, suspension and fluid changes without too much grief. Thanks for the video!
Dude - super helpful. Did not think I was going to watch the whole thing. Thanks for passing the knowledge!
Thanks for feedback, happy it was helpful
Zeiten LLC In your experience and opinion, how much more potential headache are you opening yourself up to by getting a N55 E70? Would love to have the extra power and I’m not scared away by some additional service and cost but not really interested in opening myself to a bunch of risk. Thanks!
Good and vivid explanation for each engine parts.
Very informative, this is the most detailed review I ever seen done about BMW maintenance. I am thinking about getting the 3.0 X5, I have always heard that it is the most reliable version. This makes me appreciate my(Japanese vehicles) Lexus so much more.👍🏽🇺🇸🇯🇲
Imma go back and not be pop KB z
Great in-depth review! Very informative.
Great video, very informative. As with all cars, KEEP IT SIMPLE. Fewer fancy options and tech, fewer things to break down. I have the '13 F15 N55 . No major issues at 65k just suspension fatigue on NYC roads.
Dude! Thank you for this video!
Thank you for the video Tim! I truly appreciate it. I just purchased another E70, this time, a 2012 35d!
hope it will serve you well
With the 35d you'll be doing plenty of mileage driving to and from the auto mechanic!
Very nice review and car Tim. I've owned a 2nd hand 2012 3L Diesel M sport for 3 years. Watching your review made me fall in love with my X5 all over again....
Thank you
Most informative video on youtube!
You’re very knowledgeable, detailed and informative. Thank you. I’ve just subscribed! :)
Thank you:)
Thanks, I had a 01 x5 4.4 I, and that was the best car I had to date. I was looking again because I was getting tired of Acura, need something grown up again. Came across this video and subscribe. Thanks this was all the help I needed, because I was thinking about a v8.
Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience. You have convinced me getting the E70 with the N52 Engine.
I wish you good times with it, great car in my 6 years of ownership i only recently had to replace water pump, other than that didn’t touch it except maintenance (oil, brakes, tires)
I'm looking at buying one at the moment So informative and a bloody awesome vid Thanks for the advice
Thank you
Some serious info especially on leaky gaskets 👍🏼👍🏼
Best video regarding the main issues and maintenance. Thanks.
Thank you
Awesome informative vid! I love it! Subscribed
Iv been thinking about getting 1 but wasent sure about it , thank you bro for the info

Good info, thank you. I've got the 2009 with 3.0 V6 and it has experienced many of the issues you mentioned. It has been rock solid overall, we hit 150,000 miles yesterday.
Any serious issues thru 100,000-150k? That cost u a lot ?
It's not a V6 though it's 6 inline
@@bartsprengelmeijer4825 You are correct sir! No turbo either on this one.
@@shelbyebert2857 The most costly was the valve cover gasket had to be replaced, it was leaking oil very badly. I'm up to 175k miles now...it has a few issues. The gear shifter has suddenly gone slightly limp and if I nudge it at all it will flip into neutral, even when I'm driving. Mechanic looking at in tomorrow. The rear auto hatch has died, needs a new spindle ($850). Sunroof is out of commission, over $1,000 to fix the plastic rim that cracked and can leak...I was advised to NOT open it, just forget there is a sunroof unless I want to pay to get it fixed. The spark plug heads and water pump have been replaced as well. Some radiator issues, leaks etc, replaced it.
Such a great review and very approachable person!
going to see an x5 today thanks for letting me know what to look for
You are welcome
My man , I promise you- i been watching and trying to get info for used X5 - you have the best video ever better than BMW themself
Thank you
enjoyed video but also would like a rundown on diesel versions 4cyl & 6cyl-would definately tune in for that
owned one for about 3 months (same color as the one in the video)... the 4.8 leaked coolant and oil,.. it had better driving characteristics (felt much better on turns) than my moms much newer W166 bluetech.. but it averaged me 15mpg over the time I had it granted I did get 21mpg one tank on a highway trip, I had to get rid of it... its a gorgeous car though and I still kind of want want a diesel one in the future
Excellent commentary like everyone else has said!!
I just got 2011 X5 35i M-sport, I love it. I also have 550i with n62 with 162k mile, it’s not that bad except for oil leaks. But 50i X5 is nightmare. Spot on review.
Best video out there for this car. Very helpful !!
Thank you
Very informative. I felt like it was a review about my personal 2008 x5, because I've had every problem you talked about. Starter, replaced valve covers, oil pan, water pump, etc. I loved the look of mine, but I was nervous every time I started it to see what warning lights would come on. It drove great when it worked, though.
Do you recommend it I'm planning on getting a 2008 for $5000 150,000 miles
@@bendavis2653 You may very well get a good one. I can only speak of mine which was a disaster. I paid $7500 and it had 130,000 miles. Bought from a neighbor. Look at Edmonds and Kelley Blue Book for reliability history for the 2008 X5. I can't remember what they say.
Thank you! Will do
Great video man. Thanks. You did a great job.
At that decision making moment and your review and advice has my heart set on a 2010 gold 3.5i! Agree with the comments...best info yet on buying a used x5! Thank you

Hey man excellent video. I am currently looking at a 2012/13 X5. I should have watched this before going to the dealership :p
Very educative coverage of the E70 ! I own a 2008...3.0 si..running ok! Except lots of electronics failure! ABS...DSC...lately I realized the boot leaks and damages the Audio power amp! Crazy design from BMW! This results into lots of misbehaviour!
Excellent video , I love this vehicle and was not sure which year to buy , now I do! Thanks
You are right in that this is the best styled X5. Newer models have massive grills that look like rolling bricks.
Rolling bricks😂😂
I own a 2007 4.8i (201,000km) and to be honest it’s been pretty good to me. In the past year only needed to buy a alternator and the air suspension overloaded the sacks so the sacks exploded. Only thing I dislike about the 4.8i is the lack of aftermarket upgrades and the labour costs. (x5 in general) learn how to fix it yourself or suffer.
I have also the same experience, very good car and really not a lot of problems
@@eyholzae1 if you end up blowing some smoke (probably will) *knock on wood trim* try changing the PCV Valves. It’s a common problem and they are only 23$ to replace. Mine still blows a little smoke after long periods of idle, I’m pretty sure the cats are just clogged.

Nice, enjoy your ride👍
How has it been holding up so far? Also in the market for one
@@kallmehh Great. I have put another 6000km on it. Just took it for a 3000km roadtrip around continental Europe .. through Germany on the Autobahn without speed limits. The car is comfortable up until 185km/h beyond that I feel aerodynamics get in the way. Only a real issue on the Autobahn :). The long ride felt like being in a living room, we didn't want to leave the car. No problems, no faults with the car whatsoever. It's been a fantastic buying decision The car is extremely comfortable to drive. I followed the logic provided in this video in terms of edition and engine choice. At my price range it made more sense than a Cayenne which seems fraught with problems, according to my youtube searches. Get an X5 with the comfort seats, they over deliver on awesomeness :).
Super Review 👍 Would definitely buy this model new today instead if the latest one if it was at all possible. 😘
Quality video. Thanks!
Great video man !! Easily the best regarding this model X5

Do more of these style videos on late bmws, you work on them and know them hands on.
I bought the 2013 one used whn it was 4 years old. I have it 4 year now, I put 80.000 kms on it and it is very reliable car. Also the best looking X5 so far. Not planning to change it.
How much do you spend on maintenance per year, I am about to buy this x5 e70 3.5 from 2009 to 2012 with 140k km. What do you think is a good investment?

Great review. Thankyou
Great video , I’ve just bought 2009 3 LTD diesel in the Uk 👍🏴
Great video. Like all cars you will need maintenance every 30 to 80k miles. Quick note-I had a 2002 3.0 X5 and it was a very heavy vehicle. Back then they were tanks. I had to switch to an 04 with the 4.4 V8. What a great SUV and was very reliable and fun. The 6 cylinders are more powerful now and they are making them lighter but theirs nothing like the V8. I'm surprised you didn't mention the expansion tank or window regulators? These are common issues.
Expansion tank and window regulator are really not that common issues on e70 platform
2010 model we have 2 of them one with 60k and one with 154k still mechanically sound.. in my opinion the best year
What do u mean by mechanically sound ?
I dont think anyone can agree with the best looking so far. E53 is the best looking X5 ever designed; will also be a classic in a few more years, just watch and see:)

Good info, I’m in the market for one and ofcourse I wanted the v8 because I wanted the power and I also miss my e60 m5 but you made a lot of sense.. lol that blue tooth no music is a bummer though,, thats the new wave...
I posted this above..I wouldn't trade the 400HP twin turbo for anything! I dont mind adding the endless quarts of oil! Buy it with a solid extended warranty from a dealer. Or if you're lucky, the engine was already replaced. But there's no comparison to this monster in this era unless you buy the M. It's a beast!! I use one of those bluetooth usb adapters. It works great.
Great work ⛳️
You should have at least mention about the diesel version. I came for that
he said he doesn´t work with diesel engines so he can´t give any info but he didn´t say that in the video but in the comments
Great information, which would you pick for 2nd car. X3 or X5 normal aspirated, 3.0 liter in year 2007 to 2010. Thanks, for your time.
I have a 2011 X5 I had to double check the trunk doesn’t automatically open when you press the button on they key, it unlocks but you have to lift it up yourself and it doesn’t have the button to close it like yours and my moms 2018 X5. Also the backseat does have the fold down in the middle but doesn’t have cup holders. Also totally agree with you about the steering wheel I have the alien 👽 looking one I like yours much better. Overall though I love my car I used to have a 2005 it was getting old with 150,000 miles and starting having problems but it lasted me a good 5 years. My 2011 has about 90,000 miles and hopefully it will last another 5 years or so. I didn’t like that I couldn’t listen to music from my phone through the Bluetooth so I bought a little adapter that plugs into the aux in center console so no one can see it and you just have to turn it on and any audio from my phone goes to the speakers.
Awesome review mate 👏👏

160,000 miles and going strong. This platform is built 💪. I have the N55 motor in mine. Its a champion of engineering.
Proper maintenance and on time and it will last forever😉
How are the X5Ms in those particular years holding up in terms in reliability? Could you do a video on that model specifically? Great job.
M cars are usually very reliable except v10 engine😂 we don’t have many x5ms so i can’t really tell you much based on my experience
Just found this video randomly in my feed. I wanted to chime-in about my ownership experience on a 2013 E70 35d: I purchased a 2013 E70 35d used in 2015 and have have been driving it on a daily basis for all 6 years of ownership. The 35d handles exceptionally well for a large SUV. Although there is a tiny bit of turbo lag when launching from a stop, it has more than enough power/torque to effortlessly pass other vehicles on the highway. Highway performance is above average - Touring/"road trips" with mostly highway driving, I'm able to exceed 500 miles on a single tank. Issues: Aside from wear items such as tires & brakes, I have only only experienced two occurences of one minor issue where Nox sensors in the exhaust got dirty and tripped a check engine light. This is due to my X5 being configured for California emissions - so may not be an issue in other areas. BMW replaced the sensors under warranty on both incidents since dirty sensors is a known issue in the US. As a result, BMW has extended the warranty for exhaust to 10 years, or 120,000 miles (265k km), so I'm covered for at least another 2 years before I'd need to pay to replace another sensor (if required).
How many miles do you have on it now?
There are at least 2 other engines available for the E70 both M57 engines, one single turbo the other twin. The twin turbo 3litre diesel produces 282HP and is the pick of all the engines. It's badged as xDrive 35D. 0 to 100Kph in 7 seconds... I love it !
Would you advise someone to buy the 2007 diesel 3.0 now ?
Bought a '13 X5 35i with 87k miles last year now I just want to upgrade to the F15. But nevertheless it's been very reliable! By the way i really hate the plastic rear bumper non LCI on the 07-10 model years
Excellent video.
Very Helpful thank you

Looking for a 2011 X5 AWD. E55? The X drive 3.0…..NON Diesel. How do cooling systems hold up long term? Most problems are either leak or water pump failure. My only skeptical area is the electric water pump. I am old school and I am not saying the electro pump doesn’t work but still going to take a bit to de learn my mind about not having a physical or even virtual coolant temp gauge? My theory of not having a coolant temp gauge is there is no way to monitor coolant temp gauge and if you are overheating and get the warning light…..the damage could already be done. With the pump being electric is there a sensor that can provide a warning lamp to the instrument cluster BEFORE it gets too out of control. Glad they brought back the cup holders although position is not the most ideal position…too much risk of liquid spillage on two …(probably expensive)major electrical components. 1. Shifter 2. I drive controller Good review and showing some of the more obscure features/options etc……
One thing i can say about this truck is that it’s definitely expensive to maintain, but they are good trucks . I have a 3.0 Si & its at almost 182k miles & still running strong . It does have its issues but its still my daily driver for the past 4 years ( 5 in September ) i plan on trading it for a Lexus soon
which one would you say was the worst problem?
How come you didnt mention any of the diesel engines? That would be very helpful as well. Apart from that the best review i seen so far. I like that you not only mention the potential problems but also point out where they can occur and how much it would cost to fix it.
