WATCH THIS BEFORE BUYING A USED BWM X5M E70 5 COMMON PROBLEMS
If you are looking to purchase a used X5M here are some common problems:
5- Cylinder 8 Coil & Boot Failed causing damage to spark plug.
4- A lot of BMW vehicles have malfunctions that lead to big engine problems, the infamous "Engine Malfunction ", leading cause could be just a loose connector. Solution might be camshaft position sensor connector.
3- Loss of power - this is another common problem with x5m e70...problem? Throttle body.
2- Smoke coming out of the engine, now this is neccassary one propable cause, but most people have reported cracked vent tubes which leads to smoke coming out of the engine.
1- And the bigger problem failing fuel injectors, apparently BMW has used the same fuel injectors from the N63 engine into the S63 Engine, and they also have a recall for this issue. Many X5M owners have reported similar issue regarding the fuel injectors.

    • Faisal Aal Ali definitely not. These suffer from horrendously expensive problems not limited to massive oil consumption, like a liter every fillup, worn valve stem seals causing excessive tailpipe smoke, gumming up fuel injectors and fouling spark plugs, cracked crankcase vent pipes due to crappy plastic (although service actions have improved the materials on replacement pipes) not to mention very common coolant leaks from the turbo cooler lines, front prop shafts that don’t want to be attached to the car anymore (there’s a recall for this one), thrust rod bushings that go soft and cause brake shudder every 40-60k miles, water leaks everywhere from the tail lights, Sunroof, fuel filler gasket. They are great vehicles that are a joy to drive, but do not expect an X5 to be as reliable and trouble free as say, a VW Touareg.

    • Would've like the power loss issue expanded upon, and the usual solution. The other issues seem to be easily dealt with or avoided with a little care.

  • My fuel injectors failed and they were replaced by the dealer. For you own good. Make sure they were done/ugraded before you buy this car. The old ones WILL fail it's a 100% fact! By the way, the vent hose problem and the auxiliary pump problem is caused by the stupid ass hose clamps they use for the turbo coolant pump lines. They will crack and go bad. You MUST replace these lines and hose clamps on the car. Easy DIY, save your money from the stealership. Other than that it's an amazing gas guzzling beast of an engine. It's really fast!

  • I have one of these e70 V8 but not M series. These models also have an issue with stem valves seals going bad over the time. Engine needs to warm and car needs to be idle. If your stem seals are bad you will see one time cloud of smoke coming from your tail pipe. You will not see this problem when you first start the car or continuously drive. It will only show after engine is warmed up and idle like a 45-60 sec and you accelerate. It is pretty expensive fix would range $3500 to $8K.
