Beeg Yoshi is cool, but there's also some pretty radical Yoshi games. I ranked all of them because I needed an excuse to play Yoshi Touch & Go.

  • I feel that Yoshi is kinda trapped being the “kiddie” Nintendo series, what with the cute childlike art styles, cutesy instruments like recorders, kazoos, and xylophones, and the beyond easy difficulty. I think they got the idea from the original’s coloring book aesthetic, even though the soundtrack sounded like any other SNES game and the levels were pretty engaging and fairly difficult.

    @FletcherReedsRandomness@FletcherReedsRandomness2 жыл бұрын
    • woolly world escapes the "kiddie soundtrack" trap. there's so much variety in the music, including rock.

    • I definitely agree. In some games, the difficulty balance is perfect, allowing for easy accessibility for younger players while offering a decent (optional) challenge for those who want it. In other games, though, they really do cater more to the younger player base. I'd love to see a return to Yoshi's Island's difficulty balance: easy enough levels to get through (although some of the later levels were legit tough), but a real challenge to 100% complete. I think that's when Yoshi's games are at their strongest, and appeal to the most people.

    • Yeah its sad that Nintendo is just so persistent about making the Yoshi games catering towards the younger audience along with not letting the series stand out on its own like the Wario and DK franchises. I always feel like Kirby series is what the Yoshi series wouldve been if Nintendo actually put some effort into it.

  • I remember a "Yoshi" game I would play constantly called Tetris Attack. It was basically an American version of the Japanese game Panel De Pon. You played as Yoshi and went against some of the antagonists of Yoshi's Island, recruiting all of them up until you go to the mountain. Depending on what level you're on depended on what enemies you fought. However all of them are a Koopa, a Piranah Plant, Kamek, and finally Bowser himself. It's a super fun game and it was basically my life as a kid X3

  • I’ll admit Yoshi’s Story may seem a little weird at first, but honestly, I think it’s great! It’s very different from any other Yoshi game, and focuses on trying to get a high score far more than the others and finding the fruit that will help you achieve this goal the best. Beating the game is easy, but the true challenge is perfecting every level. Also, you feel AWFUL when you die in this game. If you’ve played it, you know what I mean. Also, the Yoshi‘s Story ending theme remix from Brawl is so so good!

    • I'm nearly 40 years old and Yoshi has been my favorite video game character since I was a child. While I completely understand and respect his ranking, Yoshi's Story will probably always be my number 1. I remember playing that game when I was young over and over again just so I could write down each levels story and draw each of the chapter select screens just so I could make my own "hard copy" of Yoshi's story. I still have it to this day (as well as my Yoshi's Story and Super Mario 64 folders I had in middle school). I know exactly what you mean about dying in this game. The black and white yoshis were my favorite to play with but I would usually stick to the other yoshis because I knew they would make it back during the end credits even if I couldn't find the white shy guy.

I know the internet has been bragging about the original SNES game’s soundtrack for a couple of decades (at least) but it needed to be said just how well Koji Kondo friggin knocked it out of the park. Not only is each and every track memorable, it’s even more noteworthy how well they fit each vibe. Case in point: the mid-world boss fight, the end world boss fight and the final boss fight. One of the greatest video game OST’s ever.

  • Yoshi Story was the first ever video game I had. It's got a simple structure and was easy for child me to grasp. It wasn't so much supposed to be a difficult game with challenging bosses as it was just a nice little story time, where you guide Yoshi through the chapters of the story bringing him to retrieve the Super Happy Tree- if you want more of a "challenge" you can find the 30 special melons scattered and hidden around each of the chapter levels and find the secret Black and White Yoshis. It's definitely a "kiddie" game, but I remember it very fondly ^^

  • Yoshi's Woolly World was the first Yoshi game I ever played and I will always remember first learning about it in Middle School. I got my first phone during my second year I believe and we had a limited plan but we were also planning to move soon so my family decided to save money by removing the access to TV channels and such so I didn't know what was going on and was still fairly new to the Internet as before then, my knowledge and usage was very much limited. My main source of news and updates were on Facebook of all things as KZhead was still a mystery to me. I remember seeing trailers for games like Super Mario Maker and Yoshi's Woolly World and would constantly play those trailers because I was just excited and would try so hard when I used up my very VERY limited data as we also cut off the wifi to save money since we were gonna be moving out and you already know how that must feel having no TV channels/cartoons, no internet unless I was at school or my Nana's, and very limited data usage. But onto the actual game, I love Woolly World for the charm and asthetic it has and has a decent difficulty in some stages. The different costumes are always a treat to collect and I feel happy and safe when playing it. The music always is amazing unlike Crafted World where all music is unique. I even have all 3 of the standard Woolly Amiibo. It would be a miracle to find the Jumbo Woolly Yoshi Amiibo for a decent price as many seem to sell it for $100 or something which does make sense. I also never had the 3DS port which came with the adorable Poochy Amiibo and all the extra content and I can find one in a store that has tons of old toys as well as new toys and games and books and other items, but the Amiibo costs around $80. Kinda like how the same store once had the extremely rare Blackout and Spotlight Skylanders in the same class as the Amiibos and N64/NEE/SNES games like Pokemon Snap, The Legend of Zelda, etc. But when I couldn't get them the one time and tried to come back soon after, they were gone in an instant. Oof. But again, back to the main topic, one thing about Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World are the stop motion shorts you unlock which I'm surprised you didn't mention in the ranking as they are the most adorable little shorts of all time. The remind me of Wallace and Grommit as well as Shaun the Sheep which I've became a bug fan of recently. Those shorts you can unlock actually helped me through a really tough moment in my life actually. I was in High School reaching my Junior/Senior year when one of the students I was with in a class would talk about nothing but suicide and his her life was terrible and it got to me. My mind started to be overwhelmed by so many things all at once for a long time to where I too started to think of suicide and let me tell ya, those days were some of the toughest days I went through and had to get tons of support to help me through it when death and end of the world kept flooding my mind (I really need to stop seeing clips of those global destruction movies). Among all the people, friends, teachers, Church friends, and family, those Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World shirts also helped cheer me up when I was down. It brought a glimmer of happiness to me with the cuteness and wholesomeness it brought. I would constantly watch them if I ever felt down or just whenever I could to help push back against everything and eventually, with all the help and the video I found online of the shorts, it worked. And now, I can still go back and watch those shorts and just enjoy the cuteness. I will always appreciate my friends and family for helping me but also appreciate the shorts helping me as well. I'm sorry if I got too deep or depressing. I just sometimes get deep into a topic I wanna talk about and this moment was a big personal moment I went through in life. Thank you for reading this if you made it this far.
