Dead hangs are a miracle cure for shoulder mobility and spine realignment as well. I do them 5-6 days per week without fail. Has my grip improved? Definitely. But overall, I just feel better and more secure in the kinetic chain. I like doing 60 sec for 3-5 rounds.

Yes - good advice. Dead hangs not only improved my grip strength but importantly got rid of my shoulder impingement. I was in chronic pain from over-developed deltoids relative to the weaker smaller rotator cuff muscles. Dead hangs (passive and active) strengthened my shoulders in a balanced way and I have no more pain. First time I tried dead hangs, I could only manage 10 seconds. Now I do them in every work-out (3 or 4x, and have worked up to a 150 seconds).

Do you have advice for doing dead hangs properly to avoid injury with stretchy joints? I feel like the idea of a dead hang is to be muscularly engaged to keep the joints in place, but I'm not sure exactly the proper muscle activation pattern, or if doing it that way negates the "decompression/stretching" aspect of the hang altogether and there's a better approach.
