  • Yeah, I encountered this particular model in multiple games. but I could only see it from a great distance - whenever I'd come closer it would transform into a regular car.

  • I had a car like that once. It was a Radio Flyer. Gravity was the engine. Its top speed was more than 30 mph but the only way to break was to roll it.

  • 08:24 That used to actually happen with old cars. As a kid in the 70s, I remember a family friend died from being impaled by the steering column as a result of a front end collision.

    • I had a pamphlet that came with my Saab 99 from the 70s disgusing how proud they were of their crumpling steering wheel column to avoid things like this. That's also why the key was located between the seats, so in an accident you wouldn't break your knee on the ignition switch... yikes

  • I saw this tucked away in the vault at the Petersen Museum and told my nephews about it, but never got to see the inside or quirks and features. Thanks for sharing this Doug!! (btw, I can see you doing a series with the Petersen cars. Makes me wonder what else they'll let you drive!)

  • Looks like a design I made for an auto when I completed USN aviation structural and hydraulic mechanic school back in 2002... Ofc, it was probably a lot weirder as I also designed an electric /hydraulic drive system with Vickers 9 array and also utilized articulation and all wheel steering... But I. It's face, it follows the design aesthetic closely, but rather than a Lamborghini Countach, replace it with a F117 with bare wishbone suspension protrusions... Glad someone is doing wacky stuff too. Thanks for sharing, Doug. 😎👍

    • It would be interesting to see what kind of radar signature it puts out...also, depending on how thick that polycarbonate body is, it could have some decent anti-ballistic properties as well.

  • Given that there appears to be no horizontal or vertical planed panels, if it were made from the right materials it would be a stealth vehicle. No police radar would be able to get a reflection reading on it, like stealth aircraft. As you're blasting along at 30 mph.

    • It's more about right angles, rather than vertical or horizontal specifically, but the point is the same nonetheless. Also, though, 30 MPH is so slow, that it wouldn't stand out against the background, which in itself would make it stealth. It's how notching a lock in a fighter works. Blend in with the ground in such a way that you don't appear to be moving and you disappear.

  • 3:25 no. In this case low res refers to a technique used in polygonal 3d video games to optimise performance called LOD (level of detail) which modulates the visual fidelity according to distance from player, the level of detail on a game asset/model depending on distance from view. The farther away from player view, the less detail is needed because the user can not discern them anyway and so the game engine reduces the amount of ressources used by said model by lowering the resolution of 2D textures on the surface AND by lowering polygone count to the point where a car can actually look exactly like this Lo Res car, in opposite the closer the more detailed until it reaches 100% original detail again. This car is a low res LOD model of a countach .

So the count of polygons is related to how closely the mesh matches the realworld body. So the term "resolution" is matching. The same with framerate (temporal resolution) or colordepth
