I’ve seen someone use Lego technic to make an actual working cobble generator, it basically just had a bunch of custom cobble bricks he made that would go into the base and rise back up next to the water and lava, it was pretty sick

In my opinion, you should add a contraption to make the cobble move up and down to give the illusion of it being broken and placed simultaneously

I should say that while this design is the most basic and most easy to comprehend its also the most prone to breaking due to the lava source being on the ground, if you want to garuntee that will never happen you want to lift it off the ground and surround it on all sides with blocks so that it cant flow anywhere but where you want it to, then break the channel leading from the lava to the water in the ground like a normal generator and lift the water up in the same way so that you dont get any accidental stone, for 10 extra blocks you can make sure you never break another cobblestone generator

I'm a Minecraft veteran and I think you can't place mushrooms on grass or dirt. But in older Minecraft you can place mushrooms on grass instead of podzol.
