    • Speaking as someone who flies on planes for a living, all of the buttons in US military cockpits are pretty much the same, I can jump into pretty much anything from an Apache to an ac130 and know what I probably have to do to start it from black, and at-least get airborne.

  • I just recently downloaded this to try it out because I like realistic flight. Uh, yeah, this is for real for real. My first training thing I had to start the engine… 30 min later, I figured to out, forgot the throttle was all the way up, and slammed the nose of the plane into the ground. I *cough… “calmly” exited the game to come back to it at a later date.

    • Yeah that is one of the most common things when first getting setup in DCS. The Throttle and Brakes usually need to be inverted. I've found more often than not, that when I setup a new HOTAS, I find that my throttle is all the way in Full Afterburner when it is physically all the way down at idle. Gotta run a test and invert a lot of controls.

    • @@BogeyDope I first started with the F-5E TIger II and I often made the mistake of leaving the air pump on for too long while starting the engines... and would YEET myself out of the hanger and into the next hanger... that was fun. after spending a nhour trying to get the engines to start I yeeted into the next hanger and had to start over. I Know your pain. It is WORTH It though!

    • @@Attack_The_D_Point Go into your controls. Click on the drop down menu at the top left and select "Axis Commands." Then click on the axis you want to invert. Once you've clicked on the axis you want to invert, click the "Axis Tune" button at the bottom. Then check the box for "Invert".

  • I remember an F-16D aircraft with a stuck canopy. The pilot even cut the line to deflate the seal. The canopy hooks were not adjusted correctly. To get pressure off the hooks a cargo strap was thrown around the fuselage and canopy and tightened to release pressure off the hooks. Once that is done, tap the actuator switch and then release the strap.

    • No... it's a simulator that accurately models flight and weapon characteristics.... it is the military aviation equivalent of MSFS. There is no "Game" element to it...and most would find it boring because it takes 20 minutes to start the average aircraft and if you can get in the air it's not one click to start shooting... there is no score and no next level to get too.... that's called a simulator!

    • @@canconservative8976both are games, in fact a simulator is a video game. Dcs is not that realistic and warthunder simulates its combat better In some ways than dcs. Half of the flight modules in dcs are just wrong too. some are improving but still not correct.

  • I work on ejection systems and have worked f-16 canopies. All I gotta say is fuck the hooks. Hated rigging canopies and then poping the bolts under the hooks. Brings back nightmares.

  • Unless it’s changed, the canopy actuator switch was spring loaded to close, in other words you had to hold it to close it. It would stay in the open position without having to hold it. That said, the mechanism is spot on. 👍

  • We had the sounds of the F-16 latch but it was odd not seeing the animations whilst hearing them move. I'm looking forward to trying the updated Spitfire with the new textures and flora physics with tree top flying! Glad to see the old Viggen still getting updated often as well. I was hoping for an update on WWII AI props myself. Just like they updated the jet AI physics not to long ago. I've been seeing some odd things with the graphical updates in 2.9 Open Beta with DLSS, occlusion and reflections. Someone also mentioned more frame drops in the Air Warfare Group.

  • I remember during a tow i had to cock ride but because it was cold I went up close the cockpit and had the spider handle slightly down ready to lock and when i got it all the way closed the handles locked on my fingers. They had to get it with the speed handle opening method after they popped out all the way down on my fingers. If that sounds painful. It was.

  • Im just blown away at the graffics, the attention to detail. Not to mention the realism all the way around. I remember years ago ( as a kid ) playing arcade racing and flying games Thinking man this is great. I can't wait when the technology gets better. Now im like " holly shit " 😂 Kids today have no clue!!! I wonder whats instore for us tomorrow. I seen yesterday, love what we have today but damn can't imagine tomorrow 😂😂😂
