  • The Siamese, in our experience ( 35+ years being owned by Meezers ), are very loyal and outgoing cats. They love family, but will attach themselves more so to one member of their family. They are pretty long lived as well. Watch for kidney issues and keep regular health checkups for them ( as with any breed ). Probably the one downside is the incredible noise they generate which tends to multiply about tenfold around mealtimes, ie; they are quite vocal. Ohh, they can also sound like a medium sized herd of Elephants as they run around the house when their humans have gone to bed for the night.

  • We had a siamese cat when I was a kid. while she was okay with her family, although not overly affectionate, she was fiercely aggressive toward strangers and would sometimes even attack them. I always hear that siamese are so sweet and loving, but that sure wasn't my experience. At best, she tolerated us.

He was just 3 months old when I adopted him and brought him home. Now he’s 2 years old and a happy kitty!! When I go to pet him he gently rubs his head against my hand!! ❤️

  • I have a Ragamuffin named Ollie. He is so cool. Every morning, he comes up to me and climbs on my tummy, then purrs and gives me kisses. Ollie doesn't meow rather he mumbles his little cat talk. We have taught him to shake with each paw, ring a bell on command, stand up for a treat, and walk on a leash. I absolutely love my lil buddy.

  • I'm just getting into breeding Maine coons!! and seriously, it's taken me years to decide on the perfect breed and then almost 2 years to find the right male and females. in that time, I can absolutely vouch for everything that was said about them. 100%. i chose the breed because of my love for dogs and need for an extremely calm, family oriented cat that can tolerate both the clamor and chaos of a large family and a child with severely impaired down's syndrome. our cats are blessings.

  • Get a rescue tabbie ( a mutt) with short hair from a shelter or adoption agency. . start with a bonded pair as they will sort of "socialize" each other and seem to be more amenable to affection. They are not free as you need some basic infrastructure. You need to expect about 2$00 per kitten for vax, spay/neuter and boosters. Give them free range of the apartment/house. Do not let them outside. Pay a bit of attention and you can train them to scratch pads (with cat knip) Take a bit of work and remember, you are trading this for multiple daily dog walks

  • It sounded like he said “Birman” when describing the Burmese. Very different breeds - yet I noticed Birman attributes of being dog-like attributed to the Burmese. There were enough other misstatements that led me to believe the creator(s) of this video haven’t a clue. A first-time cat owner should go to a shelter and adopt one of the thousands of fabulous cats that are just waiting for a forever home. Purebred cats lack hybrid vigor; doubtful a newbie cat owner would want the learning curve AND expensive vet bills.

    • Sounds lovely. My family has kept cats before and I've been looking to get one again eventually. So naturally I followed up on that common advice and checked my country's nationwide shelter program. With just a few of their basic filters selected, I was left with 20 cats. All of 3, once I had ticked the box to not show the ones previously adopted (god knows why that is even a feature). All three were described as having various behavioural issues and a really traumatic history, one was going on her 3rd round. One required lifelong medical attention. So apparently shelters are doing just fine over here I guess. Doubtful that a newbie cat owner would want the learning curve AND behavioural issues and/or trauma's PLUS said vet bills. ;)

  • Consider a Scottish Fold which does not have folded ears. 2/4 cats in a litter are unfolded & thus have no value to the breeder. Breeders get rid of Scottish Folds, & not necessarily in a good way. That ‘s why there is a Scottish Fold rescue society. It’s there for unfolded Scottish Folds. These are a much better choice than folded SF cats because they don’t have genetic problems with their cartilage. This can cripple some folded SFs. (The ears are folded due to cartilage problems). I love my unfolded SF. Super easy to care for and a most loving kitty.

  • 1:49 - I think there is a difference between the "Burmese" and "Birman" . The Burmese is the local cat breed of Myanmar but the Birman that has traveled to and popular in the west consists of cross breed of Burmese with the Siamese and Persian or something like that. Kindly confirm as the difference matters a lot with respect to the genetics concerning health and lifespan of the respective breed.

  • Sphynx cats are most certainly not beginners cats, they need extra cleaning due oil build on the skin as they have no fur and dedicated areas to keep them warm also the fact they are sensitive to temperature means they are prone to obesity so you have to keep on top making sure you aren’t over feeding them. Just because they have no fur and have a tendency to seek warmth does not make them a beginners cat

Both maine coons and sphynx are predisposed to heart diseases and poor breeding of scottish fold they always get joint issues because it is what causes the ear fold. Of course Bengals are VERY affectionate and sweet too, also speaking from experience here. So many choices, so little room!

      @kawaiiaza7370@kawaiiaza73702 жыл бұрын
    • @@kawaiiaza7370 Yes, your entire house will become their play area! Once they reach 7 or 8 years of age, they will mellow out a bit like most any other cat. They DO require a lot (2 lbs a day) of high quality (expensive) food (chicken, beef and turkey - ground and cooked is easiest) for the first 4 years as they grow if you get an F-1 through F-4. After that you can mix in some decent quality canned food, but mind you a 20-30 lb. cat is still going to need 3 cans (not the little ones) a day once you wean them off ground meat gradually, plus whatever dry food and treats. And they WILL mooch a good portion of YOUR meal, so you lose weight! As for experience, it sure helps, but isn't necessary depending on your energy level and tolerance to rowdiness. Keeping at least two takes the stress off you - just like dogs!

  • How are a lot of these cats on both this list and on the "not suited for first time owners" List?

  • Burmese and Birmans are not the same breed. Birmans look a bit like Siamese in colouring but look more like Ragdolls. They have blue eyes. I have two.

  • The breed does not say too much about the cat's character. Don't get yourself fooled by such a thing as the breed. The only thing you could take into consideration about a breed is the energy level but the character of a cat is not inluenced by the breed.

  • Absolutely not the Siamese for first time owners. Ask any shelter or vet about how many Siamese cats are dumped. They are very active and require a lot of playing. Also, the do not like being alone, talk a lot and want/need another pet friend in the house. Any list that says they are good for first time owners is a good list to ignore.

  • This comment is my advice to whoever reads it. Do own KATS for sure; but not by buying expensive breeds of KATS; by adopting street-living KATS instead. They all need our forever help.
