Some people love dogs. Others love cats. (And either pet can improve your health.) People usually think of cats as aloof and independent.
Dog people often prefer canines’ extroverted playfulness to cats’ quiet affection.
And people often think their pet choice says something about their personality.
But pets and people don’t always live up to the stereotypes. In fact, some kinds of cats act more like a happy-go-lucky dog.
Some will play fetch with you. Others love to go swimming. And still others will come when you call their names.
In this video we have listed 10 Cat Breeds That Act Just Like Dogs.

  • My Manx used to collect all my scrunchies over the course of a month and then at the end of the month bring every single one to me and lay them at my feet. Like..”hey mom, I found your hair ties!” 🙄😂

    • I'm sure some level of it may be genetic, but I believe this is definitely the answer. But I have had cats of every breed act like dogs with me. And of course a lot that don't. I've had a Heinz 57 tabby that was the best dog cat I've ever had.

  • I had an Abbysinian (can't spell it ). She went on walks with me and I even took her hiking. She never needed a carrier because she was happy to sit on my shoulder when at the vet or cat dental hygienist. Everyone loved her and found her amazing. The vets loved her and the hygienists would tell me that they never had a cat cooperate with them like she did.

    • Mine, too. I plopped him on the table on the first visit and the vet declared within a minute, "That's a dog cat." We got him from a rescue and don't know his breeding, which is likely a mix, but the vet thought he was strongly Forest cat because of the shape of his head and tufts of fur between the toes.

  • That literally described every ordinary cat I’ve ever met or owned. None of those traits are unusual. It does not make them “like a dog”.

    • I think it’s random. We had many cats growing up (10+ over the years, most died from coyotes). Anyways we had only 1 that followed us miles along trails hikes. Literally like a dog. No leash. Had 1-2 that overly loved human attention. And about 10 “normal” cats.

    • I’ve had many pure breed and mixed breed cats. The Maine Coon behaves more like a dog than any other breed I‘ve had. I had 6 different Maine Coons in my lifetime and all of them demonstrated dog behaviors. They fetched toys, greeted visitors, understood just about any voice command, all were easily leash trained and they often followed me around the house. Other cats I’ve had did not demonstrated ALL of these dog-like behaviors.

  • I think it’s more of a case of how people react to the cats. I’ve had many strays and shelter cats over the years and they all have been very so called “dog like” in their behaviors; perhaps simply because they feel safe and loved. I’m guessing some breeds might be more aloof and demanding, but all my cats have been sweet and warm and open to strangers more than some dogs.

  • the more silly noises i make the more excited and animated my cat gets. she's always involved and follows me everywhere. she loves playing football with me and where ever her ball is she will bat it into the same room to initiate a game. she's pretty amazing, my girlfriend trained her to tap the wind chimes for food... she's does it a lot. i found her when she was about 6 months old by a railway while taking photos, she was covered in grease. i scooped her up, took her home, cleaned her, put loads of 'found' kitten posters about but no one ever claimed her. she is a gorgeous black and white cat with the most perfect symmetrical markings

  • I have an ocsicat i think she's the best pet I've ever had. I seriously recommend them. She's playful, vocal, loyal, fun and super hyper so she's very entertaining to watch. She can be annoying at 3 am screaming for attention though haha. Im trying to leash train her its not working she forgets how to walk but besides that she's really smart. She's always coming up with new games to teach us to play with her. I originally adopted her at the pound to help get over my last cat passing I had no idea what I was signing up for. Im definitely getting another ocsicat after her. Sometimes I just look at her and start laughing for no reason her eyes look like the guinepig buggsy from bedtime story im not sure if its all oscicats or just her that has the comicly large eyes.

Even called his name, too. He was a stray cat that I became best friends with him instantly. He was a big American shorthair red tabby cat. He did loved his belly rubs.

He has a continuous smile on his face. We found he would fetch items by accident. He follows us everywhere. He loves to watch tv. He wags his tail all the time. He is an inside cat that likes his harness and will stay on our patio outside without wondering if told to do so. He understands and obeys “no” and “up” commands. He loves visiting in the bathroom and pease in his litter box on command. He screams his meows to get my attention. When he wants something, he will lead you it’s location. He greats visiting friends and strangers and stays to listen to conversations and get pets. He sits impatiently screaming when I prepare his food. He knows his name and comes running when called. He skids on rugs when running. He stayed in bed with me when I was sick.

  • Love it. But you forgot British Shorthair. They have dog like personality too. 1) Let's you know if someone is on the property. 2) Waits nearby while food bowl gets refilled & waits until you are done. 3) Teaches easily; the word "no", "good girl" & "go to your room" when you have a party or handyman going in & out of the house. 4) Greets you at door when you come home from work & demand time with you. 5) Gets upset when you leave for work. 6) Waits outside bathroom door while you shower. 7) Walks behind you as you walk from room to room. 8) Lays on the couch with you while watching TV. 9) Anticipate being petted when you are near by. 10) Plays fetch with a cat ball &, brings it back to you waiting for you to throw the ball again. 11) Loves to go for car rides. 12) Gets dressed up for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, ect. 13) Loves her tummy rubbed, loves to be brushed, &, groomed. 14) Loves drinking out of water fountain. ECT. But also she won't come when called but expects you to come when she calls you. Instinctively know if you are a nice person. Is not a lap cat. Anyway wanted to say all animals have their own unique personality & all cats are unique and if you teach them young like a dog with treats & goodies & patience they will learn also. It is the misconception that cats cannot learn tricks. They can but do they want to? And if you're mean to them you won't have their loyalty. I adopted a feral cat passed the age age of learning, unadoptable. But after six months she worked & gave me a dead mouse present. Fast forward four years and she does all the the above plus some. Remarkable. If one took the time, love & care your pet can be everything they are capable of. But one violent newspaper, sprayed water, or impatience incident can &, will muck it all up. Here's to our loveable companion no matter the breed or types of animals...

  • Oh my goodness...I think my first cat is a Chartreaux! For the LONGEST time I could not remember the 3rd blue breed for cats. I'd look up this information every so often (I know, my efforts weren't the greatest) but was unable to find the answer. I concluded that she is a Korat (as would be her daughter), but this video answered my question and now has me scratching my head, and thinking that I might need to get a DNA test done on her. She was feral when she adopted me and people said that her mother did not survive a car "incident". She may also be part Bombay, as she does have some of those features. All I know is that I have one deeply attached cat (and she's passed on that trait to her offspring) who LOVES belly rubs and going for leashless walks (rolling in all kinds of stinky substances)...which usually results in her regressing to her outdoor tendencies, where she'll run off and hide in bushes or trees. But I digress. This is one very smart cat, very aware of her humans' emotions, and is very attentive. She is one amazing little treasure.
