  • Another part of Texas Tech’s defensive strategy is that when on offense they run the clock down as much as possible, reducing the opposing team’s possessions per game.

    • While Tech may slow it down on offense, few teams slow it down as much as Michigan. Michigan has the 312th adjusted tempo offense per kenpom. Texas Tech has the 232nd.

    • But that doesnt matter at all lol. The teams still get the same ratio of possessions

    • Somewhat. Tech is really good at forcing turnovers and is almost always in the positive. Tech forced Michigan into 16 turnovers when they played, while only giving the ball up 5 times. While the teams got "even" possessions, Tech turned those turnovers into transition scoring attempts. In reality, Tech got 11 more offensive opportunities than Michigan. The slower pace plays right into Tech's strengths as fewer possessions is asking the other team to be more efficient with the ball than Tech.

    • Brandon Ball it does when a fast paced team is forced to play off schedule. Fast teams are used to playing fast, so when Tech makes them play slow, they lose control and make mistakes.

  • Really helpful analysis. Thanks for making it! I love UM basketball and feel that this could be an epic battle. Most don't understand the chess match involved in a college game. Beilein is a master but, apparently, so is Beard. Very excited for the game, but also quite concerned. I think we'll win but won't be surprised if we don't. Go Blue!

  • Most people say Texas Tech is just Bobby Knight's motion offense. Let's get real folks ... it's their lock-down no middle defense first.

  • Great video! Thanks for putting it together. However, would have liked seeing more Tech defensive clips against teams other than Nebraska (their offense is a mess). Also noticed a lot of wide open guys on the perimeter when someone would drive into the lane on Tech and they collapse. Zavier will find those guys. If Blue knocks down 35%+ on these open looks they win by 10.

  • auburn doesnt drive baseline, we have a half court offense so we call plays from the logo, and we have a very fast point guard who can drive by a defender going straight to the hoop not towards the baseline, and if this does happens, we have a team full of great shooters who we can kick it out to so they can make an open shot
