  • He makes things look so easy looks like a dry climate the trucks are not rusted. Chalmers seems to be the easiest to repair.

  • We have the same Chalmers setup on 2 of our FLDs, one a triaxle dump and the other a tractor with 46k rears. I really like them, relatively easy to work on and sure beats replacing walking beam bushings. Only issue I've had with one is lost a spigot cap when the thru-bolt broke somewhere along the way. Never worked with the two-piece bushings, they look a little easier to reinstall the torque arms than the one piece. Soapy water helps a lot though.

    @DieselFuelOnly@DieselFuelOnly2 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, the two piece looks easier. Seems like the whole re-build, new shocks and all, are going to last a good long time.

  • Up here in Canada the road salt eats the two little bolts and the rubber block goes by by! The through bolts also rot and break after awhile. Usually catch it when the cap pops off but have had two where the torque rod slides off and the axle goes wherever! This is under alot of off road use though on concrete trucks.

    @kdseidle8031@kdseidle80312 жыл бұрын
    • Buddy you have to make the bolts out of stainless steel and then the salt won't cause any more problems

  • I have had 3 trucks with charmers and wouldn’t have anything else. We could go up hills empty that no other suspension system could get up without hopping or just spinning out. If you operate regularly on hilly or loose uneven ground, there is nothing like it.

  • Do you use longer bolts the the original ones?? Unless you use all thread I can’t get mine to pull together then at that point you have to be able to get some sort of solid clamp on it so you can put the right bolt in. So do you possibly just use longer bolts so what’s done is done

  • Those 2 little bolts that hold the plate in place seem undersized.

    @rtz549@rtz5492 жыл бұрын
    • That plate isn’t really under any stress in a horizontal way. The force is primarily vertical. Some airbags (Mercedes trucks) are held in place by only a clip retainer at the top, keeping it from dropping, when the axle is of the ground during maintenance.

    • It's a rubber block, not an airbag. Think of it as similar to the Hendrickson elephants foot type suspension some 8 wheel tippers had in the UK, especially Foden, Seddon Atkinson and ERF, and also Dennis refuse lorries. It was a great suspension system for off road work and never gave much hassle.
