In this wood turning video I turn a natural edge bowl from an Ash crotch log, I was a bit gutted to lose all the natural colours that were on this log, I thought the finished piece was a bit bland in comparison..

I guess this hunk of wood could have been left as is but then we wouldn't be admiring this uniquely fabulous conversation piece now would we Andy?!!!
Even better, It could left as a tree
I always love it when you leave the "natural" edge on a piece. Great work even if it's not what you hoped for.
So I woke up on a not very promising Friday morning thinking I could just fancy one of your videos as I think about getting up and giving the cat his breakfast and there you are with a natural edge bowl too which are my absolute favourites. What a treat! There's nothing wrong with it Andy, it's beautiful and one of your specialities. Your "bread and butter" pieces put everyone else's best efforts in the shade. Yes, I like the coloured pencils, the many-coloured mosaics, the free-ring goblets, the triumph of ingenuity and technique over materials; but finding the beauty in the most unpromising chunk of timber is real craftsmanship. The rest is highly enjoyable showing off!
I'm glad I logged in for another Andy Phillip video.
The growth rings from the branches really came out well. A masterpiece from a bland piece of wood! You've done it again, Andy! 😁👍👍
Never left better as a log! Thanks Andy, lovely as usual
Andy with your creative genius, you took that one note log and turned it into a symphony!
Ahh.... time to break out the 2x and enjoy fine art.. thanks Andy!
Andy, I love your work. You made a perfect bowl. It's very beautiful.
Hi Andy, Absolutely nothing wrong with that piece. Stunning in its simplicity. Love it !!!
I'm not sure what you envisioned Andy but it turned out really pretty. I can see large/giant pine cones collected from massive Sequoia pine trees nestled in the bowl. ❤❤❤
It was better given your woodturning expertise and artistic vision, Andy. It's lovely! 👍
The patterns on that wood were gorgeous. Definitely better as a bowl.
Elegant, pure in simplicity. Remarkable clean wood underneath that rough bark. Nice one again Andy.
I love the fact that you left the green edge on, makes it look so natural, as if it grew to be that shape.
Firewood as a log. Lovely art as a bowl. Well done.
Looks like a soft wood. The patterns in the log look great! I love the live edge.
Awesome work the grain pattern is awesome nice job 👍 👏.
Well, I don't know anything..🤔 but I think this is a beautiful piece!❤
No, Andy, you made the right decision, sir. Clean, and the look compliments the wood itself. Very well done. 👏👏👏👏👏
I just love all the beautiful things you find inside logs! 😊
The joy of watching you create this bowl, bland or not, is priceless.
Thanks
Beautifully simple. I like it.
Better left as a log? No way! I think it's beautiful and I love the green live edge ❤
Love this piece! Its unique shape and raw edge is what makes it simply beautiful!
Nice job! I like how you left the lichen in place. Might be home for a few critters 🐞🦗🐌🐛😉
Such a beautitul piece of wood! Thanks for finding the inner beauty!
I really like the subtle grain. A very beautiful bowl.❤
I love the sway-type cradle you made with this Ash log. I could imagine flowers with stems in the center and the petals coming up both sides. Then you could put the baby's breath in the middle over the stems.
Thats beautiful, you don't have to glue lots of colour's and pressure resins, beautiful in their own way. Ash can be a plain timber, but you have made it shine in your own way.
Most definitely better now, than when it was a log. Cheer up Andy, it looks great. Well done.😊
Best looking log I’ve seen🤔😂
I think it's lovely, Andy! Very nice grain, unique and beautiful shape and I love the natural edge.
I love the woods grain, beautiful
You have an amazing ability to see a diamond in a hunk of wood. Nicely done my friend.
Not the result you were looking for but beautiful non the less. Well done
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You might not like it so much, but judging by the comments, your fans do.
Sweet nice work Andy as always
Oh my goodness I was wondering and hoping you were gonna be able to save some of the greens on the wood. I love it 😍
It's gorgeous!
Great job. That's inspiring.
I love that you left some of the green on! It really adds to the piece!
I think it turned out great! Much better as a bowl.
It looked like a bizarre optical illusion while it was rotating. Amazing it became a bowl!
МАСТЕР🔥🔥🔥ОТ ДУШИ ЖЕЛАЮ УСПЕХА В ДАЛЬНЕЙШЕЙ ТРУДОДЕЯЛЬНОСТИ✊
Another beautiful work, Andy! Really well done! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
The finished piece looks great.
Great work, love the natural bark well done🎉❤
Nice job mate - great to watch - hope you're well!
Really elegant piece Andy, well done 🙌🙌
The bowl is very nice. I like the pattern of the wood.
Awesome piece... love the natural edge..
I’m glad you made it into a beautiful bowl.
Wonderfull I see you from France
Impressive wobble on that at the start! I think it was a superb piece 😊
The oil restored the majority of the grain, at least in my view. The final outcome reminded me of a fruit basket (if it had handles!), so it's a perfect fruit bowl. I'd very happily have that on my side table filled with different fruits. My grandchildren would empty it in a few hours! I understand why you said what you did, but it's a beautiful piece nonetheless. The grain is a lot clearer with the oil and it's restored the wood's innate beauty.
A master of his craft.
Uniquely beautiful, and a conversation piece.
Nice work like the bowl and it is great piece to have. Keep up good work.
Great work mate looks awesome at one angle it almost looks like an owl with the two same shaped grains for eyes nice one 👍🦘🇦🇺
I think it's beautiful. The grain of the wood looks so delicate a wonderful bowl.
Thanks 👍
That is so nice. Well done!
Great video as always.I always try at the beginning of the video to guess what your creating, and when final results are shown.see how close I came.I was going for a (skull cap)motorcycle helmet.LOL.but a beautiful bowl emerged.great content.love final showing 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Left as a log? Where's the fun in that for us? 😂 Beautiful piece.
Nice work as always. Such a beautiful design 😍😍
Best chip bowl ever! 🤭
Let´s agree to disagree as I think this is a fantastic piece!
Damn that work looks so satisfying and therapeutic. I'm going to have to invest in a lathe someday. I used to bore and customize sprockets and gears years ago I do miss it.
That turned out really nice. ❤❤😊
IMO i think it turned out quite lovely!!
A complete layman like myself who knows nothing about wood wouldn’t have any idea that didn’t come out the way you might have expected. Without the video, I’d wonder how the heck you did that shape.
It's absolutely beautiful
Really nice, Andy. Definitely NOT better left as a log. Bill
Well it was a lot better than your description! I can imagine it in a contemporary setting quite well. Can anyone else see an owl’s face in the very last frame of the video? 2 big eyes.
Hi Andy what a wonderful bit of wood it has amazing grain and colour. The natural edge bowl is magnificent and unique, you have turned yet another fantastic piece. Well done great bowl and video. Amanda xx
Many thanks Amanda
Моё почтение сударь, Вы как всегда на высоте !!!)))
Grazie per averci offerto questo magnifico lavoro, dove hai rispettato quella striscia di corteccia originale ospitante i muschi ed i licheni !!!
What a beautiful, perfect curve! It invites the hand...lovely!
I think it turned out awesome, it would look perfect on a table filled with assorted unshelled nuts, or even fruit
Just out of curiosity, on a scale of 1-10, how much does this hurt the wrist? The outcome was nice and it was fun to see an odd shape become a bowl
I don't get any wrist pain so it's a zero
La coupe est magnifique et détaillée.Superbe à voir réaliser.👍
A côr dessa madeira deixou a peça muito bonita! Especial seu trabalho, sou sua admiradora👏🙂🤗💗
Ash nearly always disappoints me that way. Just isn't a very interesting wood for turning. However, it's a gorgeous, if understated bowl. You completely nailed the shape with respect to the live edge crotch. As always, beautiful work.
I totally disagree, its refreshing to see a piece made purely of natural wood and no resin in site. I love it !!!
It looks great Andy!
Amazing work as usual, sir.
Thank you!
Браво Andy!,у тебя золотые руки!.
Nope, definitely not better left as a log. Well done Andy.
Браво мастеру очень красивое получилось изделие 🤝👍👍👍👍👍
I have to say its not my favorite but still beautiful ! I'd love to see the moss and bark encased in resin and left on the bowl, ya it may be fragile, but all wood /resin is, to a point. And separately woodturning the darkest wood, I dont know what wood that is but im sure it would look amazing , haha!
It's beautiful!
Looks excellent-great job
Thank you!
Here we go!!
it’s still very beautiful ❤
Yeah, that could have been burned in my stove and kept my house warm for a couple hours. Instead, you turned it into a unique piece of art that will be enjoyed for ages. Nice.
I really like that mate ❤
Beautiful Bowl ❤ Just because u said u should have left the log as it is, couls u have left the outside as is & made a hollow part where The log has debt to be a vase, a plant pot, etc Anyway the bowl is lovely🙂
Nice👌
Awesome👍👍
Bonjour monsieur Andy bravo 👏
