The V8 GC has more power but not necessarily better off road than the 4.0. better than the Touareg off road but the VW is nicer for daily driving and more luxurious. Really depends on what you like. • I have to say that the WJ was by far my favorite Jeep. I had an 03 with the HO 4.7 and Quadradrive and it was as close to having lockers as one could get. The only downside is the 4.7. It had plenty of power, but the engines are really fragile...upper ring lands and timing chains failing are really common. Death wobble isn't nearly as bad as other Jeeps but still happens. I used a case of death wobble as a reason to put a 3 inch lift on mine which required all suspension parts to be replaced.

    • @@chadingram6390 If you compare the 4.7 SOHC from Chrysler to a very similar 4.6 SOHC from Ford you'll notice that the ring lands are extremely close to the top of the piston. Chrysler/Jeep did this as a means to reduce friction but inadvertently made the piston/ring land weaker. I had the exact issue happen with my '03 4.7 HO. I bought it with only 55,000 miles on it and at about 97,000 the ring let go. I only use Castrol full synthetic and change my oil on every vehicle at 5,000 mile intervals which is typically way under what the OEM suggests. The truck was serviced at a local Jeep dealer every day of its life which is why I bought it because the maintenance was spot on. If you check out many forums you'll see hundreds...if not thousands of threads reporting the same issues. I replaced the engine with a remanufactured engine and that engine let go at 135,000 because the timing guides failed. Also, lets not forget the fact that the WJ for the first 2 years has issues with chewing threw rotors because of the terrible caliper design (I replaced my rotors 3 times within a year and I'm an very easy going driver...I can't afford to have expensive things break all the time).

  • Quadratrac II is full time four wheel drive with a 52/48 % front to back power split. 2005 and up. 1999 - 2004 uses a Gerator with oil pump to put fluid under pressure to clutch packs to make sure both front and rear axles spin at the same speed. It also uses individual brake locking to send power from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip.

Im a subscriber and love the content. FYI this video was oranges to apples comparison. That jeep was modified and he was wrong about the system that was in that jeep based on the explanation. Quadra-trac 2 is a a five position t-case 2hi-4hi-fulltime 4hi- neutral- 4low....... what he discribed was the quadra-drive system full time 4hi- neutral- 4low..... both work great. I own 5 of these vehicles 4 of them are stock and 1 on 35s long arm 6" lift locked front and rear both axles are trussed chromoly shafts 30 spline upgrade and 4.88 gears 4.0l quadra trac system..... 3 others are 4.7 highoutput with quadra-drive and the 5th one is standard 4.7 2 wheel drive I also own a 1990 grand wagoneer

    • The Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are NOW one of your BEST USED BUYS in 2021. The off-road performance of these, even in luxury trims, have always surprised me at their supreme competence on really gnarly trails. The thing one must do of course, is put AFTERMARKET SKID-PLATES underneath with you are wanting go truly off-road with these. The Cherokees have Jeep Sahara DNA in them so they CAN do 4x4 off-road competently. Just put good tires on them! v

    • @@tallll70 Upgrades????? Have you actually driven a QuadraDrive WJ on trails? If you think this new Bronco is going to go anywhere a QuadraDrive WJ on the same size tire can't go, I'd guess the answer is as resounding "no." You know that they also have two-speed transfer cases, right? And that QuadraDrive system makes having fully-locking differentials superfluous. Okay, so you do have to be smart enough to know when to pop one in to four-low or not, but beyond that, they're pretty much "point and shoot." No stupid "G.O.A.T. Modes" to dial. No lockers to switch on or off. You just pick a line and drive it. Put both on the same size tire, and I doubt a new Bronco can go anywhere a QuadraDrive WJ can't. If I had a QuadraDrive WJ, I'd spend my money on keeping it long-road trip and backcountry exploring reliable, and perhaps on modding it, if necessary, but I wouldn't be spending it at the Ford Dealer just to get something else that essentially does the same thing on technical trails.

The air suspension on the VW is amazing and equipped with a lift kit, skid plates, and some decent all-terrain tires it will freak out any off-roader. Plus the 4.2 V8 is the brutal is specially in Sport mode, same engine concept as the Porsche Cayenne. Best to keep the VW in low range and just the the gearboxes work against gravity and if needed bump it. Cool video.

I had 2008 Fj Cruiser and it was full time 4wd: H was 60% rear 40% front power delivery + traction control with Hl and Ll options (Hl splits power 50-50 front and rear and keeps traction control, Ll keeps 50-50 power and turns off traction control + allows usage of a-trac and locking diff). my 5th gen 4runner has 2H, 4H, and 4L (and sounds a little similar to this Jeep as 2H is rear wheel drive + traction control).
