How to turbo BMW m50/m52 engine, S02E05 Oil pump, clutch and gearbox.

This time tie up some loose ends left last time and finalize the bottom end assembly by modifying the oil pump and installing last parts before head can go in. But before head installation, we bolt in the new flywheel and clutch. Then finally bolt the gearbox to the engine and lift it to the car.

    • But this also makes no sense at all. As the bearing caps should bottom out no matter how much torque is on the bolts... Which means with that high torque on the main studs you are deforming the caps and/or the Block...

    @Gyikhuszar88@Gyikhuszar887 жыл бұрын
    • yeah I know. And to be correct that wasn't even necessary. We needed to take that off and put back because on first time the clutch lever was in wrong place and it did push the clutch open when we bolted the gearbox. Second time it went in smoothly without forcing because I did put the lever on right place. But i didn't took video about that.

    • pazi88 I figured Bmw wouldn't be sleeping in the quality control department. The other thing that is drawing me to the m52 based car is the 4L30e auto in it already. It will be a dedicated drag car and auto is the only way. The 2Jz auto tranny doesn't seem to be as good. Lastly is the factory ecu tuning capabilities the Obd2 Ms41 has which 2Jz doesn't. My main objective is to use as much of the factory car as possible to keep costs down. Im not amuzed by buying a car and throwing most of it in the garbage after the build. What mods or horsepower have you seen out of the 4l30e after being built?

      @jonazevedo28@jonazevedo287 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah the ms41 tuning capabilities are very good for stock ECU. During spring I will tune one ms41 for turbo so I will probably post a video how I did it. In Finland almost no-one uses automatic transmissions. So I don't know how much that will withstand. But the technical data says: Maximum Engine Torque 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) Maximum Gearbox Input Torque 600 Nm (440 lb-ft) The maximum torque limits are only to be used as a guide and may not be applicable under certain conditions.

  • Hey @pazi88 what kind of power will this clutch setup hold do you know? Thanks!

    @mattxr6t@mattxr6t4 жыл бұрын
    • Power is bit wrong measurement for clutches, because you can have really puny clutch that can hold like 500hp, if the power comes at really high rpm (low torque high revving engine). For clutches torque is the real measurement. These sre-765 pressure assemblies are known to hold up to 900-1000nm of torque in regular pulls. So depending on the use, those can hold in really high hp setups. But then for example if you have sticky tires and try to launch the car with launch control including some boost, the cluch will slip even with 500-600nm.

  • Whats that clutch rated for? Looks almost stock minus the springs

    @tyewvarnes@tyewvarnes7 жыл бұрын
    • It's Sachs Race Engineering part number: 883082 999765 so it's basically m5 clutch from s38 engine with thicker springs. It's rated for 600Nm with organic clutch disk and 700Nm with sintered one. But people in Finland have used that with organic clutch disk in engines producing over 900Nm without it slipping. So it can handle lot of torque, and I think that next best thing will be expensive multi clutch disk setups.

There is a one mass flywheel Kit from valeo but that trash wheits (does this word exist?) even more than dual mass. Thank you for your videos its entertaining and pretty useful

      @boxtrainer@boxtrainer4 жыл бұрын
    • @@boxtrainer That is the heavy duty version of the RHD flywheel with Sachs SRE -765 pressure assembly which is the strongest one you can get for that flywheel. It's drive able in normal traffic, but the engine is really rev-happy, because the flywheel is so light. So you need some practice to use throttle. Also the SRE -765 pressure assembly is really stiff to use. The clutch pedal is about 3-times heavier than with stock clutch. But still drive able in normal traffic after some practice.
