How to turbo BMW m50/m52 engine, S02E07 Fuel upgrades and wastegate installation
This episode we upgrade few fuel system components like add second Bosch 044 knockoff pump from Aeroflow, cahnge better FPR and swap the bigger injectors from the other e30 turbo. After the fuel system upgrades, we weld the Turbosmart knockoff wastegate to the turbo exhaust housing.

Great videos, thanks for all the information you share and your contributions to speeduino, the world needs more persons like you! :) There is one thing that I missed or overlooked during watching your vids: how did you do the crankcase ventilation? Do you use stock ccv valve for that and is it ok for boost or is it some other solution on your m52? And what about Petri's m50, how it's made there? Because m50 doesn't have ccv valve so stock crankcase vent solution couldn't be used since boost will blow out the seals, so I'm wondering how you worked it around

I've a e46 m3 and I'm going to be fitting a csl style carbon airbox in the next few weeks and getting it tuned for it. I've just adjusted the valve shims, serviced the engine and upgraded the fuel pump in the tank. the standard fuel pump was fine, no noises or anything. but I've put a higher flow pump in, a walbro gst400 for a strong constant fuel pressure for the regulator to maintain. my thinking was that it'll be better with a reliable pressure but should have i just stuck with the standard pump?
Hello Pazi, can I ask what size of an oil drain+ restrictor you use on the Holset turbo's? My tube welded on T3 flange is 15mm ID and the some for the welded tube on my oilpan. is that big enough?

Which ones? There is currently mixed set of borbet T and A wheels on it.

Thanks! We have full set of As but the rears are waiting for new rubber (Toyo proxes r888r's are waiting in the garage) so there are curently Ts at the back with slicks for drag racing.

great video again as always, I have a quick question, What did you guys do about the stock CCV system? still using it or running catch can?
The stock system is not good for turbo use. We have regular catch can and 1" hose from valve cover to that.
Thank you, another question please. I read on your build thread you used a mk2 golf brake booster, do i need to add a spacer into the mastercylinder shaft? i put one in thgere but i get the feeling its to long? any advice?

Sam Vernon It will flow just fine. The turbo will just spool up little bit later.

Kiitoksia! Kyllähän se joku e46 nykyään kannattaa aloittelevan bemaristin ostaa. Vanhemmat alkaa olla jo niin ruosteessa että saa puolet auton pelleistä vaihtaa ja siinä äkkiä loppuu mielenkiinto koko hommaan ja uudemmat on aika monelle liian kalliita. Ja sit taas 5 sarjalaiset yms. ei monesti nuorempana edes kiinnosta. Jos ostaa m52tu/m54 koneella, niin niitä saa ihan mukavasti viritettyjä ja tietoa löytyy netti täynnä.
Just wondering why you have the M52 intake manifold instead of the M50. Did you want to have a more linear torque curve due to the more low end power on the M52 intake?
Yeah I have m52 intake in my car for extra low end torque. In boosted engine you can have more top end power just by adding more boost so that's not a problem :D

Why did you put the wastegate on the turbine instead of on the turbo manifold? Just curious.
We made the manifold so that there is no place for wastegate in that. And also there isn't much room for that either and in current location there was plenty of room.

No. It's Holset HX40. H1C is smaller or much smaller depending on the model.

@@albertfalls Depends on what is you power goal and what model the H1C is. Those can have quite different compressor wheels. Biggest is 54mm which is same as HX35. Which is good for up to 500hp on pump gas and about 550 with e85.

Hallo i like your videos they are really useful! Can you help me with 1 problem? I have M52B25 on kdfi v1.4 with gt28 turbo on E85, 0.6 bar only. Drift car When i run and go full throttle on 1. or 2nd gear my boost is ok and stable, but when i hit 3 gear my boost go down to 0.3 -0.4 and jumping like a curve (car little bit twitching). When i drift and hit 3gear from 2nd i go instantly on 4 or 5 cylinders untill i off on engine. My AFR is ok, maybe little bit richer (0.3 AFR +-). Ignition options are Nominal Dwell 2.1 and Spark Duration 0.7 on stock M50 coils with spark plug ngk BKR7E. Thank you for every help. Greeting from Czech Republic.
Domokun Rari There is something faulry in your setup that is not related to tune/ecu. Maybe faulty wastegate or wg control, boost leak or leaking bov. Or maybe the turbo intake pipe is being crushed at high air volumes. Do first a boost leak test to your setup and then continue from that.

hi Pazi. Ive got a e30 convertible that im doing a m52b28 conversion on and then doing the bottle cap 3 piece wheel u did. I have read before you are on the Forums and just wanted to find out which forums you are on. I really want to to find out how to tune the ms41 in english
I'm not pazi88 but I would recomend you to check down his videos one more time because there are at least one video of BMW's computer where pazi talks about two different models one is older an one is younger far as I remember. I think you have tried the subtitles on watching already but if you have not, then click them on from behind the same button where you can change resolution of the video.

Hello Pazi88, I have a question. I am planning to get a supercharger on my e36 328i from 1996 with the NIKASIL. Do you think its possible safe to drive 0,5 bar max boost just on street (not racing/drifting). Or would you say NO its too much risk? btw I live in the Netherlands (good fuel quality) Thanks!

Thanks for the response. I think there is nothing wrong with the nikasil, I mean porsche use this also in turbo engines. Nikasil is very strong as I know, but somehow on the internet and some tuners say that the nikasil in m52b28 are just not good, but whyyy ???
People are afraid of nikasil engines because fuel with lot of sulfur will eat away the nikasil coating. This was mainly problem in the 90's at England when they imported some poor quality cheap fuel. But all those engines had the block changed to one with cast iron sleeves by BMW. And that is where all the fear of nikasil coating comes. Nowadays there should be zero sulfur in the fuel so nikasil coating is not a problem. Also the aluminium block doesn't like if it's overheated and if that happens the head bolt threads are weakened. And the threads can break when head is tightened down. But this is not problem if you don't overheat your engine.

Stock engines on any kind of boost ultimately fail. The problem is that 800 fail and 2 don't. Those two are all over the forums and baby their car for 2.000 km per year. The 800 failed cars you never hear about online. If you want N/A performance you should already upgrade, why would a boosted application be any different?

Derek Douglas Injectors are so critical component of succesfull build, I would stay away of cheap injectors. Use siemens or bosch ones only and matched sets. If those are too expensive, you could try hunt used set.

It's some universal one from local autoparts store. There is 12 blades on turbine wheel.

thanks, still relatively new to the bmw world, so do the m54 and m52 share basically everything beside piston size and crank for the extra displacement ? and perhaps vanos single vs dual?
Single vanos m52 and dual vanos m52tu are completely different engines. There are some parts that can be swapped at least with little modification. But for example you can't put head from m52 to m52tu engine. m54 is very close to the m52tu. It mostly differs electronically.

Why didn't you go with twin-scroll setup?
It would have required new exhaust manifold and more complicated wastegate installation.

Cool guy Yes it is. You can even use stock ms42 ecu. I have tuned few of those for turbo.

Eipä nuo kopiot oikeen oo ollu toimivia. Petrillä alkoi vuotamaan kun anto vähän launchia ja mulla ei uutenakaan toiminu, kun oli niin väljä akseli venttiilissä. Rupes toimimaan, kun laitto aidon turbosmartin korjaussatsin. Petrille laitettiin kokonaan aito turbosmart.

Ah. I bought that same Fuel pressure regulator and it wont fit on my rail! I guess USDM fuel rails had a smaller regulator.
There is two models of that regulator available. 7mm and 9mm. You would need to check before ordering which one it is.
pazi88 Yeah I should have looked into it more. Kinda an impulse buy. Anyways, I actually took a grinder and make it work so it’s all good!

Just a regular m12 banjo on the oilfeed? No restrictor? How big oil drain in mm do u use? Have the same turbo but bought it used. And people tel med that i dont need restriktor and that i need one. And peeple say use the m12 and ithers day an 6 etc Please can u give me an stright up answer so i can use my fucking turbo?🤣 Thnx man
Yeah. No restrictor. And drain should have at least 16mm inner diameter. There is installation manual also but I didn't find it now.
