Umm... Ive stalked cars across States.. just to get a picture. Ive done that numerous times with countless vehicles. Id go back through numerous States if there was something I regularly see and I wanted a shot of. Ive even made the gamble... on NUMEROUS cars, stuff that was an 1-2hrs away. Just to get a pic. LOL, Some stuff... to THIS DAY... I wanted to steal a 450 SLC hardtop. It was 15yrs ago and it was sitting there in an abandoned lot in decent condition. I took shots of every car there. Easily 30 M-B cars in poor junk condition. Never took the top, cause I couldnt get the damn thing home. I look back now.. at the location, everything there is lone gone (cars, top, property). There is nothing crazy sbout crossing country lines to take a shot or do a review! Ive stalked cars for MONTHS... just to get a picture. Thats happened too often than I can count. In every situation... its some abandoned looking car. Tucked back somewhere. Where the property and the vehicle can see the road. Due to the fragility of the car, ya have to wait a good few months (past winter) to see what a plan for the car would be by its current owners. By month 5-6.. and tracking it everyday, hasnt moved, hasnt done anything, that is when I make a move. I just find a way to get into position at the least possible / suspicious time of the day / month / week / yr. I get the shot and I take off. THE NEXT DAY.... its gone. Doesnt matter what condition, what type of vehicle, age, mileage, complete... its gone. I am VERY proud to have gotten the shot. Across a Country, Id do it. As long as its something decent and Ive watched it for a while. Most times... Its about being patient. Today I caught a shot of something I really wanted... and I was in the right spot at the right time. I got the pic. I dont break laws... I dont get out of my vehicle.... I stay off owner property. Ive brought a Telephoto Lens.. to get a shot. But I always get the shot.

@@Finestizpro For the cheap Chinese brands (Baojun, Geely, etc.), European Union has stated those cars have deeply poor crash test ratings, some receiving a 0/5 score overall. But I do completely agree with you on having cars from outside USA! 😃 There is a general rule in USA that if the car is 25 years or older it doesn't have to meet the same safety or fuel economy standards, so it can get imported. @@vaibhavjoshi9141 Show me another 5500$ car with better safety. It gets abs and airbags as standard. The alto isn't marketed aggressively, it keeps selling without any sort of marketing.
@@InfiniteKmpl Exactly. Here in the Philippines, the vast majority of suzuki cars are from maruti. People often piss on the Alto for being cheap. They fail to realize that suzuki was aiming for that niche. The D/A modes in the Anti-theft screen could possibly be 'Disarm'/'Arm' or 'Deactivate'/'Activate'. Vehicle theft is more common than in other markets compared to the US, and Suzuki is actually one of the only manufacturers to have that system built-in for decades. When engaged, if someone taps on the car/tyres the car will.make a loud screeching noise with all hazards on.

How do I keep finding Doug videos I never knew about it’s legitimately like a Netflix for car reviews
We had one of these as a hire car. It was brilliant for what it was. One thing you didn't mention was the fact that Suzuki cars are spectacularly reliable, and that even when they DO have problems, their agents' labour rates are some of the cheapest in their respective markets. That double whammy leads to brilliantly low running costs.
True. In India they are 10x cheaper than Skoda to repair and hence sell like hot cakes.
@@kinglada1492 They may not be the cheapest, but when you combine them with the general reliability and labour rates, this combines to make Suzuki very appealing in the UK, which is where I am taking the data from. When you consider that Honda (the most reliable marque) parts prices are much, much more expensive, but their vehicles are not that much more reliable, then the equations start to fall into place. Interestingly, Hyundai/KIA have made significant inroads into the Japanese dominance of this area of car ownership. Nothing stays very much the same for very long in the automotive industry, with the possible exception of the German manufacturers resting on their laurels for way too long, and the motoring media ignoring it.
The Suzuki swift sport is the real gem here in Europe
And it depreciates like crazy so you can buy them for peanuts after a few years :D

The new one having a 1.4L pumping almost 140hp does look pretty interesting, especially since that version runs at only about 970kg AND comes with a 6-speed manual option. Not many hot hatches still sell manual anymore, particularly outside of EU markets where it's still adequately popular :/ Sat in a 2008 one before and it was already quite a hot hatch despite the low power, not a Suzuki fan myself but secretly desiring one of these tiny things.

I leased a 2008 Suzuki SX4 JLX AWD for 4 years. It was a great little car. No reliability issues. The steering wheel and instrumentation were very similar to this Swift. My only complaints were that it sat too low for the snowy dirt roads I frequently took it on and the rear seats didn't fold level with the cargo floor. I was going to buy out the lease but when Suzuki announced they were pulling out of Canada, prices dropped like a stone. The residual on the lease was way over market. I just gave it back to Suzuki Canada and let them eat the depreciation. I replaced it with a lightly-used 2007 Subaru Forester, which addressed the ground clearance issues and offered fold-flat rear seats.

Fun fact: 10:05 - those halogen template black boxes are a fun thing. The reasoning for them being there is that they serve as a light beam adjustment whenever your going to a country with left-hand side traffic so you won't blind drivers there. What you have to do is: 1. Cut out those boxes from the manual 2. Stick them to the headlight as described in the manual (you hae to put them in specific places) 3. Voila - now your headlights won't blind anyone in left hand side traffic I have the 2018 Swift with halogens and that I assure you, that's what the manual in Poland says EDIT: A&B is a set for right headlight and C&D is for the left one. ***The more you know***
I had a feeling they are cut outs for headlights adjustment/masking. Thanks for the explanation. In UK you can buy stickers to adjust your beam when you go to Europe. When I had my car from Poland MOTed guy simply used duct tape :).

Maruti Suzuki sells more vehicles (No of units) in India than Suzuki sells in rest of the world combined. And my Indian friends will know why there is a Mode D.. Ok sorry..
Yeah, the Maruti partnership is huge. Modern Suzuki cars are all using Maruti engineered engines now I think as well.

@@sourmiIk yep(sarcastically)
I just bought the very same car as a little run about simply based on the fact the Great Doug reviewed it! What an honour!
I’ve had my Suzuki 1ltr (Metro/92) for 17 years. So in love with. Great engine n trans and with gas at insane price, Its become cool all of a sudden. Instead of “dork mobile”)
Doug De Muro, mocks a Bentley if he has to, compliments a Swift when he has to! RESPECT!
They do a "hot hatch" version of this in the UK, 1.4 turbo with 140hp. It's surprisingly good
It's basically sold worldwide...
We have it in Mexico too :)
Will Americans, with their massive engines, understand how fast a 1.4 can be when they're driving round in inefficient 6 litre monsters? Or is that stereotype dead - have American engines got smaller/more efficient?
@@jorgeramosmendez7619 is mexico actually that poor?
@@jorgeramosmendez7619 or is it like in other countries
They have given the indian accent bcz swift is the one of the most selling cars in India and it has the largest Suzuki factory
yet the worst quality is in india...
@@thomaspanditfan2435 Unfortunately true. They make the chassis thinner to save weight and get better fuel economy. Doesn't help that most Indians don't even buy them with the safety tech.
@@camogap7392 I don't think most Indians care about the safety. If the car works, gives good mileage and is cheap to repair, then they will buy it.
@@thomaspanditfan2435 But I think it's time that people stop whining about mileage and actually care about safety. Some guy apparently flipped his Suzuki and died. The car only rolled like once and he died. In any other that would been a survivable crash.
@@camogap7392 are you Indian by any chance?
Amazing review! Really entertaining and engaging !!
I owned a Suzuki SX4 AWD Touring with a 5 speed manual. It was one of the best new cars I've ever purchased. Extremely capable in snow and light off road. It had the option to switch from 2WD to Intelligent AWD to 50/50 lock with a push of a button. Definitely one of the most underrated AWD cars you could buy at the time (And cheapest!)
I hear ya man, I miss my SX4 it was the same spec as yours. It was my first car. Great in the snow, fun being it has a 5 speed manual. I always wished they would make a sport version with a turbo.
That Indian English option is for Dinesh from Silicon valley.
or Raj from TBBT
But he's from Pakistan (odd name for Pak origin)
raulio81 if James Bond meets this lady in a bar in India and says its bond. James ... bond. She’ll be like it’s Sai. Prema Sai. Prema Swaminathan Sai. Prema Swaminathan Sathyanarayanan Sai. The infotainment is outsourced form kenwood that’s why time differs.
More cheap automakers should outsource shit like this. Even though it's a little janky, it seems way better than what you'd get in something like a Kia soul or mitzu mirage
@@Benzinilinguine And it'd probably be much cheaper thanks to no R&D costs for the car manufacturer
I used to have family that lived in one time zone and worked in another. This would have been super handy, actually.
It's actually a Bosch unit.... SLDA
@@Benzinilinguine yeah i wouldn't mind a few more cars with bose stereos
4:47 "American engliosh ... no" It isn't sold there Doug... why would it include American English...?
Absolutely hilarious those voice assistants. I would love to hear Russian English, French English, Japanese English and Chinese English there as well. I would change the voice assistance every day.
Mitsubishi is still around making junk in the US and Suzuki is out here giving other markets good economy cars.
You ever just look at a Mitsubishi mirage and feel bad for anyone who has ever bought one
@@MoistChungus my finance manager drives a fully loaded one I think
@@MoistChungus all the time, i laugh at them in my head. it's a good car for the first 40,000 miles, after that, Good Fucking Luck.
The new Outlander is kind of a good deal
I think of it this way, you could buy a new mirage for 10k or you could get a used comfy Avalon for 5k
I just had to look it up: my '90s Suzuki Swift (which was called Geo Metro there) has the same lady cleaning her car in the manual.
I have owned 3 Suzuki Swift's My first car ever was 1991 Suzuk Swift GS white, 1994 Red, and Finally 2001 Blue.. so I literally had RED, WHITE AND BLUE US COLORS.. lol. I loved every car I had. The US rebadge was the Chevy Metro, Geo Metro, Chevy Metro... I always enjoy all your car Reviews.. Great job buddy. Keep up the great work.
I have a 2019 one in Spain 111hp and comes with back camera, heated front seats, and Android auto/apple. It also has a hybrid small motor that grants you the fiscal and administrative benefits in Europe. All for 16k euros ... you cannot beat that it’s impossibly good value.

It's not that the car is cheap... It's that the car is reasonably priced.
Cheapness is also perspective depends on what is cheap for yourself
@A real bisexual petrol-head I suppose "inexpensive" would've been a better word.
@Toori Baba Or Doug is just an American prick with an attitude.
is not the car cheap, rivals are just too expensive if you want a decent amount of optionals
@@Tonyx.yt. Problem with options is that they could fail or break down, getting them repaired or get the proper diagnosis is a pain in the back( read: expensive) Suzuki makes rreliable cars with enough options to be fun. It never broke down, before Suzuki's I had a premium Audi A6, terrible car, just horrible, cost me a fortune to get it running. I am not a fan of downsizing next car will definately not be a Suzuki I guess an older Subaru outback older one or a Honda.
LOVE THIS CAR! Am I the only one saddened by the diminishing amount of subcompact cars in the States?
I have a 2008 Swift that I learnt to drive in and, dollar for dollar, is still a pretty spritely car to drive. Certainly better than a contemporary Mirage and similarly equiped. Yet, whenever I hit the key, it'll pretty much always fire up with no drama.
