    • @@grasslad6898 These cars make a lot of sense in Europe, though. In bigger cities you won't even need a 100hp car, let alone a v6 with 200 or more hp. Since the majority of the people use their car to commute to work and rush hour in Germany at least, is stop and go in traffic jams, all you are gonna care about is A/C and good mpg. I had an old 60hp 206 (the one from NFS Underground 2) and that car was so much fun to drive, especially during traffic. I could redline that shitbox and yet I wouldn't be speeding. Throwing it around corners on b roads was also incredibly fun due to its light weight.

The shifter version has its own "quirks" that you can learn to work with and get some proper speed out of. Still, not incredibly quick but living in a country where you are mostly in dense traffic or even jams there is no point to driving so accelerated unless you're only on the road in the middle of the night. I think what it's missing is exactly what makes it a fun car; you just can't worry about it :D

The whole idea behind Turo seems to be to rent unusual/less common rental cars to people who either want to rent something different or just try out different cars for a while without the commitment of buying. I imagine that some people will rent this car from Turo just to see if it really is a total crap car even at $10,000 or whether it's actually a better then expected value at $10,000. Hell, I know people who would jump at the chance to drive an old Yugo or Trabant, both very crappy Eastern European/communist bloc cars from the 80's (or earlier in the case of the Trabant) just to experience for themselves how bad it really was (sort of like watching a so-bad-it's-good movie).

It’s what kept Mitsubishi alive for us to see the 1970’s Galant GTO, the 90’s Gt3000 sleeper, the evo, the pajero…. It started with this. I’m actively looking to sell my current car to purchase the new Mirage Ralliart for that very reason. So for what it’s worth, I don’t imagine many eyes on this. Just a fun… thing I guess about the Mirage we know here in the States.

  • Thank you for bringing those cosmetic issues but with all due respect I can’t care less about the issues you mentioned. However these issues don’t even exist in models 2019 and newer. I am NOT a showman or a KZheadr but as a real engineer with a real degree and real mechanical experience, I would say if mirage is not the most reliable car in this price range, it sure is one of the best. So, the manufacturer doesn’t need to pay KZheadrs to advertise for their products. The mpg of Mirage is better than many hybrid cars out there without short lasting batteries and hybrid issues, it has 10 year 100k miles warranty and it simply never dies. I think those things just do matter for a car in this price range. Mirage is proved to last more than 400k miles unlike many other cars. If you like cars with luxurious accessories please spend at least 60k to buy Mercedes or BMW and spend other thousands of dollars each year for the maintenance and good luck reaching to even 100k miles.

Its perfect for short inner city drives to work, shopping, picking up the kids etc. I've taken it several times on longer rides over the autobahn as well and I always reached the destination. Shitting on this car feels a little unnecessary by Doug. It's a 10k beginners/second car not a performance ride or a status symbol. I've driven worse cars btw. • His attitude regarding the vehicle and it's utility is very pretentious in my opinion. I've never seen somebody so disconnected that they would think a brand new car that poor people can afford and reliably travel from point a to point b would be considered to be essentially garbage and useless. Only someone who's driven nothing but Lexus and Mercedes would tell a poor demographic that they choice of vehicles suck and that they're not even much better than a go-kart. Hell in some counties go-karts are converted into road legal vehicles because they couldn't afford a car at all. "This road legal go-kart is absolutely atrocious. It has no air conditioning, it has a rough ride, and it's very hard on the eyes." All I hear is a pretentious attitude talking down to the peasants who can only afford vehicles like these and actually enjoy them.

With no aircon or even a radio, I drove it maybe 15 times thru the years from LA to SF and back in all kinds of weather and never experienced any major issues. It was supposed to be the worst car you can buy in USA at that time but it was the best handling car I have ever owned. Even negotiating the high mountain pass between I-5 to Hwy 101 was a breeze. Actually, it was made by Suzuki for Chevy.

It has a lot similar drawbacks as the mirage (no center console, only plays radio and dvd, no cruise control) although the quality of the seats is surprisingly good and I always like to joke that it has a 2.3L 4-cyl which is bigger than a new base trim camaro. But it has treated me well and I think it will endure a lot before it gives out on me.

The clutch is very smooth and you can redline it in every gears and yet you won't even bust the speed limit and the small 3 cylinder screams like a miniature crappy Porsche out if it's trumpet like intake. I always had this f***ed up dream about one day owning a 3 cylinder Geo Metro. It's a future crap box, a future beater. In a decade, they'll be selling for peanuts. I had so much fun test driving it that it almost convinced me to buy one. Though what brought me back to reality, is that for 2 to 3 thousand dollars less, I bought a 2012 Honda civic DX, with only 50 000km on it. Also such a small in a snow storm is suicide. Same reason why I don't own a Toyota Yaris. They're great great little machines, but once you get on an iced road with strong winds, low visibility and you'll feel the car drifting on every small variation of the iced pavement, you'll be regretting this silly idea about how such a small car would be just perfect for your needs.

Almost 3 yrs later and the only thing ive had to change was serpentine belt. The car is slow, and the interior is less fancy but it is GREAT on gas. Its only a 3 cylinder so what does that mean? Less engine stuff to break. Repairs are affordable. The 2019 looks much different. I have black alloy rims, camera, touch screen. The back seats fold back giving alot of cargo space. At a quarter of the price as other cars. It is a great starter car to finance and build credit.

So for anybody driving a spacestar/mirage i suggest installing thick rubber matts. Our model has good functioning bluetooth and speakers and although its a bit loud on the highway theres some of the issues he points out we dont recognize. • 2022 ES 5MT Mirage owner here. Loving the car so far. It's a lot of fun and great on gas. Cheap way to teach someone manual here where it's fallen out of popularity. It's also fun to see the wiring harnesses for top trim accessories in the lowest ES trim so you can do your own upgrades if you source the parts. Found all sorts of posts online about people adding heated seats, flood lights, cruise control on older manuals, etc very inexpensively thanks to that inclusion from Mitsubishi. More quick and nimble than you'd think since it's so light. Very cheap car to maintain and easy to work on. A reasonably skilled and equiped DIY'er should be able to keep one on the road for 150k easy, longer if you can do clutch, transmission, and engine swaps. Saw someone got theirs to 400k.

  • The primary reason I'm interested in this car is its weigh to reliability ratio. I had several boxes I'm trying to check in a car purchase. I plan to do driveaway in the future where you can tow a car behind a truck that you are going to deliver and then drive it to the next truck you're going to deliver. Most driveaway drivers buy manuals and opt for flat towing (4 wheels down). The two disadvantages to this are that you will burn miles on your odometer which reduces your warranty and resale value. Also, that is more vehicle wear and tear. Using a tow dolly on a front wheel drive vehicle, the mileage will never go up while the vehicle is in tow. The mirage has a rated tow capacity of 1000lbs. This will make it legal for me to pull the 600lb tow dolly with a hitch. Lastly, the other problem with towing cars on a driveaway gig, is that you are using universal bolt on hitches on vehicles which do not have a hitch. This means you want to keep the weigh of your towed vehicle down as much as possible. 3500lbs is generally the rating you will have on these universal hitches. The mirage is one of the only cars light enough to still be under that rating after you add a tow dolly and the cargo that will stay in the car (though I would take heavier items not in use and put them in the truck I'm delivering to save weight). Actually, you'd still be a solid 400-700 lbs under the weight rating of the drive away universal hitch. For me, it is the best vehicle for drive away if you wish to use a tow dolly. Given today's vehicle prices, keeping the odometer down is definitely a good idea. The Yaris is my second choice, but they are easily more money than the mirage.

    • I feel they need to bring back the model T, but this time, offer it as a compact sedan/hatchback, 1.5L 3-cyl, 2.0L 4-cyl, 2.3L 4-cyl, or hybrid engines, very basic features (screen & power seats olny available on higher end levels), & under $15000 price. It would be sold as what it was first intended to do: offer people very basic transportation with little price to pay & all unnessary features left out.

  • You know, i dont think those who are on a budget in needing a car (or a second car) would find this car to be the worst. It's a car to go from point a to point b with very little problems. I have a 2015 outlander sport base model with tidier features, but i would get this mirage as an additional car, to use for traveling locally around town. it's simple, and mobile. That's all i care about
