Samsung Neo G7 43 Inch Monitor Review - WATCH BEFORE YOU BUY!
The Samsung Odyssey series is very popular with their always being a cool reason to buy one of the monitors such as the 1000R curve some have or the mini leds with high local dimming zones. That's why this G7 variation seems to come out of left field and go against the normal grain of what the G7 series monitors have been. This is basically a large smart TV disguised as a monitor but that might not be a bad thing, it just depends on what you need and want out of your monitor. There is plenty of upside here for people to enjoy but if you don't need or want some of the features here it might not be the best monitor for you. If you have any questions about this monitor that I don't answer in the video let me know in the comment section and I'll answer that for you there.

Most informative review on this monitor and ive looked everywhere. Thanks
I’m glad it helped you 👍🏻
Just got one for 425 with the 15% back on the amazon card for prime day. Cant wait for the upgrade
Thank you for the review! You've convinced me to pick this instead of the Aorus FV43U. Don't care much about ghosting as i don't play as much as I used to, I just hope text is fine as i need it for programming. As soon as it gets here, I will have a look at the other 2 videos you posted about HDR and non-HDR settings for "quality of life" improvements. Thanks again for taking the time to explain things and getting the right settings for this smart "monitor". Cheers!
Thank you so much for the review. I actually made a purchase on Amazon and waiting for it to see it in action.
Thanks for providing such as elaborate review. I actually switched to using an LG C3 monitor with 120 hz refresh rate instead of using Samsung Neo G7 43 inch monitor. It has an OLED panel which was far more superior in my opinion to mini-LED and the size is about the same (42 inch). Therefore, made a return. But thanks again for the review and elaborate insights.
Happy I watched this vid. Thinking of getting the AORUS 43 inch instead
Great review 👍🏻- chapters would be nice
Usually KZhead does that for you with most videos but I’ll see if I can edit them myself
Samsung's TV and monitor speakers are unbelievable
I got one of these for $500 for Black Friday, and jumped on it before reading reviews based on my son being happy with the Neo G8 32". I am using it for its smart hub and Airplay 2, and using the bluetooth out for my Audioengine HD4 speakers with an SVS Sub. It's much better with my PC than my old Asus VG27AQ 27" 1440p monitor that Ive been using for thew past 2 years. I have the G8 OLED on my MacMini M2 Pro 12/19 core, and if that wasn't $899 vs $500 I might have bought another one for my bedroom PC...
Outstanding review! Thank you so much for the details. I actually bought 2 of these. Love it for everything that I plan to use for it, not just for 1 purpose.
How are you liking it ?
Thank you for the in-depth review…looking forward to your settings video. How do you access the PiP settings.
From the home tab hit the left key button to bring up the side menu. At the bottom of that it has a menu tab, click on that, on the far right it has multi view. That’s it 👍🏻

@@1UpNerdcore Thank you! This was the one feature that I thought I compromised on when I purchased this monitor. Ghosting issues aside, I think this is a great alternative to OLED for those who don’t want to deal with possible burn in issues. Especially when priced at 699.99 or less.

I have zero complaints using this solely for gaming on a Series X. I'm slowly building a monster of a PC rn. @@carnivoras No I have yet to purchase it i found the information on the internet, although what is holding me back from buying the g7 are 2 other displays, a 2000 nit mini led 55 inch tv with 800 dimming zones and the LG 48 C2. Can't decide which one I should get!
Just ordered mine yesterday for $600. So psyched coming from an asus tuf 27inch 1440p
Dang, what happened with the ghosting? I'm pretty sure that the 32" one didn't have this problem. It's a shame that that one's curved because I prefer flat screens.
Just bought this on sale, can’t wait to unbox it
suggest unboxing quickly, i ran into a lot of issues that I think are "as designed" with this product that has made me decide to return it before my 30 days is up.
@@mattheworelup I already unboxed it and have used it for a day now, main reason I bought is for my setup, I have a 45 inch area through the wall where I wanted to have a screen for my ps5, this one is the best monitor/tv i came across and for 500$ which was a great deal when comparing other options. But can I ask what issues did you have that were “as designed”?.
@@visiionz_6699 So I feel as though the display port sleep issue is "as designed" because i assume it is the smart tv software on it that is causing the problem. Never had a monitor have this kind of issue before. I'm not sure if ps5 has a sleep mode as well for display but may want to try that out a bit. Just set your monitor to sleep after a minute, step away for a few then come back and move the mouse and see what happens for you. also I assume "as designed" since this has been out for a while with firmware updates, and i've found a lot of people commenting about the problem. BGR for me i thought wouldn't be a big problem, and text is a "little" fuzzy but i'm not sure if that is more to due with me being more used to IPS rather than VA. I do notice that sometimes when using darkmode, the text is a grey color and any scrolling of the text makes it momentarily turn white as it scrolls. Cleartype helps but everything else still has that slight fuzzy feel. The USB hub is only kinda usable imo, anything plugged into the hub restarts when the monitor comes out of sleep (on hdmi) (it's like the monitor turns off then back on when it does). This is more of a nitpick since i can just switch types of devices plugged into it so it doesn't matter BUT that is the reason your windows may not be in the right location after coming back from sleep mode. With using a PS5 the ghosting/smudging motion causes may cause you to not like the screen long term. I thought it wouldn't bother me because i'm not really a "monitor snob" (heck i'm planning on switching to an edge lit 38 inch ips), but when i compared it to my 27 inch 144hz ips from 3 years ago i was AMAZED at how bad that was. I was expecting to just go "oh it'll not be as bad as reviewers make it out" and instead i went "holy shit how is it that bad" Not saying it is all bad though, i love the fact that i can essentially single screen use this with about 6 functional windows being usable at once. Watching video even in SDR is really nice for me personally, I watched a couple TV shows on it using the built in speakers and I liked it. The price is low enough that even with everything i said above it is REALLY hard for me to take it back next week (though 42 inch i feel is just a little bigger than i'm liking). But a lot of that would be the same with almost any other large format monitor too (except price). Value wise for $500 it has a lot of value, but personally the downsides were enough to make me consider paying more for something later.
Got it at $550 at Walmart
I am soooo happy with mine. Granted its my first 4k monitor but holy crap is this thing amazing IMO. The weird thing about this monitor is you see smear and ghosting with the UFO test, and your mouse cursor in windows has some ghosting and some black smear if you move it quickly....but in practise, playing games?...its fantastic.
Just as long as this monitor is way better looking than my acer Nitro Curved FHD Monitor I will be happy with this I got it on sale for like $550 because of Black Friday sales with the Acer that I have I only paid $170 I get the neo G7 this Wednesday so I kind of can't wait
Just ordered for my son from xmas.... hoe did we do? Haven't been gaming for a long time but he is into it and wanted to give him an edge over my 10 year old samsung tv he inherited from me
Hello, did you tried latest firmware? Maybe is improving something, but is not stated by Samsung the changelog. I am looking at this one to move from a Huawei gt34, at a price of 600euros.
Others are reporting that this monitor has only a little over 300 local dimming zones (it's the monitor version of the 43" QN90C tv). The 32" Odyssey Neo G7 is the one with over 1,100 zones. It doesn't help that Samsung uses the same model name for different monitors. BTW, yours are the only reviews I'm aware of which go over every single settings option.
Yea the naming is confusing and Samsung told me it was the higher local dimming zones but I’ve seen others test and show that doesn’t seem to be the case. I reached out to Samsung after learning this with no response back
@@1UpNerdcore Willing to bet that, had the Odyssey Neo G8 43" had 1,196 zones, Samsung would have definitely listed that fact in their marketing info. It's only when manufacturers know products have low desired specs or features that they choose not to reveal them.
Just ran into your channel because I just purchased this monitor on sale for 560... I would say it's a fantastic deal but you are right, out the box I was really disappointed with the presets. Great review! One thing to keep in mind when always comparing these with OLEDs, is the size and the market. Not everybody buys this for gaming only I work on these kind of monitors for a good couple of years and usually I focus on some part of the screen while the other is static... That being said, I fear an OLED will have burnouts in these conditions. It might be better at other things but unfortunately not at this(yet)
Yeah, I want a big non-oled 4k monitor for gaming, work and tv etc. I also want it to last for 5+ years. No chance of that with OLED burn in. Which leaves my options really limited. This is one of the few real options out there. Everyone seems to be going OLED for gaming monitors. And I'm just still not sure if I want this with the ghosting.
@mytimetravellingdog ghosting is a downside on this, true... 5 years, unfortunately I can not guarantee, mine lasted 30 days.... It's the first monitor to break down in my entire life. Bad luck? It may be, but it had software issues all down the line from minute 0. The most annoying one, if the monitor entered sleep mode, I could not bring it back without turning Game mode on and off, regardless of the state of the PC... and the list can go on from here on... For me, it was the worst monitor experience, but it could be the unit itself was flawed to begin with
I've used a Samsung VA panel (49" 5120x1440, CRG9) for almost 3 years now, and I'm definitely a "hardcore" PC gamer (RTX 4090, i9 13900K, high-end VR headset etc). The VA ghosting has never really bothered me. I was originally looking at the 48" Asus OLED panel, but it has a serious issue which has not been resolved in a whole year, meaning it likely never will, so I'm ordering one of these instead. Hopefully any glaring issues will present themselves within the return window. I never wanted to buy another Samsung monitor, but once again it's the only brand that fits my wanted specs, since Asus came up short on theirs. I strongly dislike the TV-styled menu, but from experience I know that I hardly ever touch the menu on a monitor once I have it set up, so it would be foolish to disregard the monitor because of that.
My SDR settings video comes out later today and that’ll help you make this look much better. Out of the box it doesn’t look good. The G9 doesn’t have as much ghosting as this but my settings help it out a little bit on the visual side of the ghosting.
@@1UpNerdcore Hmm, appreciate the heads up. I can easily return the monitor if it comes to that, but then I'll have to just continue to live with the CRG9, which I am getting sick of at this point. Will check out your settings when I get the monitor.

Hello, can you use the flex move screen feature while playing games on the console?
They lied to you about the dimming zones, it's only 360. Not suprised though since they also lied to me about a question I had about my Samsung TV.
Your strobing on 144 is because your camera is at a different refresh rate, 120 or a multiple there of, 30, 60, or 120 fps, so you are catching refresh by running a multiple of 30 by a multiple of 144. It's not a monitor issue, just a timing issue, like the tires turning backwards on wagons and cars on some movies.
I lowkey got triggered because its so basic knowledge to anyone who ever worked with cameras before xd
I understand that but 90% of the monitors I review are 144hz and they don’t strobe when recording outside of those that achieve it via overclocking. Those that do are overlocking and VA panels so to me it has more to do with that.
Hello. Great Video Sir. Can is use this Monitor/TV for PS5 on 120hz and 4k. Would that a good option?

Greetings Guys, So I am not a PC Gamer by any means, however after visiting my local Micro Center and seeing this monitor at 50% off I wanted to get some info on it, so Thank you for the through review by the way. I Recently bought a MacBook Pro and yes this is going to be so odd, but could I in any way use my Old ThunderBolt Display circa like 2014, and this monitor as a dual monitor. I never really used the Thunderbolt Display cause right after i bought it I Traveled for work 20 days out of the month for years. I know i need a Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 to connect to the new MacBook Pro, but simultaneously using the thunderbolt as a reg Mac monitor and having this one as a TV/Gaming/PC/mac monitor would be cool i thought. Totally open to suggestions but i don’t want to break the bank buying a bunch of different monitors. I will be getting a PS5, the MacBook Pro will be my personal computer, but i also WFH 2-3 days a week and would like to use the Thunderbolt Display and this monitor at the same time if possible interchangeable from my Mac and work Dell Laptop, but i haven’t searched the U Tube or Google to see if that is even possible. Again any good feedback is welcomed. Or am i even crazy for considering an old Thunderbolt Display, or should i just opt the hassle of the old tech sell it on ebay for the most i can get and buy two of these as a dual monitor setup for the mac, PC, PS5 and TV options.

What would you say is the best monitor for gaming on Ps5? I’ve been pondering the 43” Neo G7 bc I already game on a tv that size but now just looking for something that can run 4k @ 120hz. The 32” G7 seems better when thinking about monitor size but then again the 43” is on a major sale so it seems hard to pass up. Plus maybe It wouldn’t be as bad if I’m already used to gaming on such a big tv. What would you say is the best bang for my buck ? 1k for the 32” G7 is just not looking the best compared to the 43” @ 500$.
I’d probably take the 43 inch version with that big of a price difference.
I have a beast of a pc but have only had 60hz 1080p monitor for it, I’ve been looking to upgrade but I wouldn’t use all the tv and console features, should I find a different monitor that fits that better?
If you don’t need the size or features I would get something else
On sale $500 right now ACK!
With a 50 dollar difference, is better to buy this option instead of a Samsung QLED 43" Q65B? I will use it as a monitor for work, play in a Xbox Series X and as a TV, I don´t know if I prefer a OLED or the 120hz
I would take 120hz over 60 almost every time
the 144 hz is too fast for the camera shutter speed. You would need to adjust the camera shutter speed to match the hz
If it’s not native and overclocking that’s true. I’ve recorded up to 240hz no issues with the same camera and settings on monitors with that native refresh rate. The flickering is because the backlight is strobing to create the faster hz from what ive found.
What monitor would you recommend instead of this one? I`m seriously considering the LG C2? I think it was.
if you want c2 buy it asap, c3 coming and going to be expensive than c3
The LG C2 if you want this size would be a good option
Only drawbacks with C2 for me are possible burn-in and not able to disable local dimming (only from service menu, which voids guarantee). Local dimming has been fixed in C3 and possibly some burn-in tech has been also added.
Gigabyte aouros 43 its a god monitor too 😊😊
What did u end up getting?
During your testing, did you run into problems with getting the monitor to come out of sleep. I bought it primarily for productivity, but having to run it at 60hz off hdmi currently due to being unable to consistently get it to come out of sleep on displayport and thinking of returning it due to not being able to use it at 120 when i do game without swapping cables. I was surprised though how much smoother my 144hz lg ips looks compared to this using the synthetic tests.
I had the monitor for four days and returned it because of the sleep issue. When my PC would sleep and I would wake it up the monitor would come on but then immediately go to the count down to sleep screen because no input was detected. I tried multiple HDMI 2.1 (all certified) and multiple DP 1.4 cables all with the same results.
@@bp328i yeah i think i'm going to return this and wait till the pg38uq comes out. 42 was just a little too large for, and 16:9 is just so much more useful than ultrawide for productivity. just hate that i'm gonna have to drop an extra 3-400 :(
@@mattheworelup The PG38UQ is available where I'm at, looks nice! I ended up ordering a PG42UQ. Before the G7 I was using a 48" LG C2 and with my desk setup (it's 36 inches deep and the C2 was wall mounted) it was just a little bit to big for me. The main issue I had was the glossy screen and reflections were so distracting with any light behind me. As nice as the C2 is it's just not a monitor. I saw the sale on the G7and thought ok this is a good price for a 43" with a matte screen, but I guess there was a reason for the price. Completely agree with you about Ultrawides. When I got the G7 I moved my C2 into my son's room and now while I'm waiting on my PG42UQ to be delivered this Monday I'm using my old Samsung CRG9 Ultrawide and I don't know how I used it for so long before. This certainly isn't a bad monitor, IF sold at the right price point. And 1k isn't it. I think you identify the right market for this monitor (multi-use "ok at everything"). I cannot understand why it gets the "Neo" branding though. It is a "monitorized TV". Neo is samsung's premium monitor line. I really wish (really really really REALLY wish) that this was just a flat, 43" version of the 32" Neo G7 ("take my money please!") ...but it's not.

Is the 1ms response time on this monitor good for that type of game. I see a lot of monitors in that price point or higher with that 1ms response time. I also see a lot of monitors in that price point with HDR 400 1ms IPS display. Is IPS better than VA displays?
Get a LG C2 42 inch, it's almost the same price now, for gaming you don't need to worry about burn-in which is the only drawback with OLED, it's superior in all other ways especially in response time (0.1ms), besides, all these "1ms" non-OLED displays can't really do 1ms. For IPS vs VA, IPS has better viewing angles, better text clarity, faster response time, worse contrast.

Oleds will have the fastest response times but there are good 1ms GtG IPS and VA panels out there

The standard G7 is sized at 28", and is literally $50 more on sale than the 43" Neo counterpart. As far as OCD and matching panels are concerned, I don't want the _same_ panel, and the next step up isn't going to be the right size _anyway._ So I might as well say screw it, and get this for $50 cheaper. Mind you, I barely game, and if I do, it's not FPS worthy gaming. (My partner plays Animal Crossing, and occasionally RE, while I play games like Portal 2 and the Spider-Man games.) Not to forget we both wear glasses, and I can never get mine clean, so I probably wouldn't even notice the ghosting anyway.
The only thing I would consider here is sitting distance from the monitor and pixel density when comparing 4k at 28inches vs 43.
I was able to get this for 500 bucks on Amazon today. I would be using it for my Xbox Series X. Would you recommend it for $500?
Yea for 500 it’s one of the best deals you can find for a minute this size with these specs
Awesome! I was going to go with the Gigabyte M27U, but when I saw this on sale for 500 bucks, I figured it was a no-brainer. I'll only be using it with my Series X. Thanks for the great videos!@@1UpNerdcore
I got a question for the Protective film that's on the screen that you can peel it off. Do you take that off. Bc I have seen Samsung tv get broken when they peel it off. Is it safe with this one?
I wouldn’t attempt to do that with this monitor

How would this monitor compare to a same size (42"-43") OLED in text clarity for windows?
Depends on the sub pixel layout of the OLED but in general this is probably slightly better
Price is $570 at Microcenter. I might pick one up.
Solid price 👍🏻
Anyone having problems with the headphone audio output? Im getting no sound out of 3.5mm output
I bought this Samsung Monitor (TV) and update to the latest Firmware 1604 now i noticed that my screen has horrible color banding (or DSE) noticeable in games like Elden Ring in the sky (distance view) and when transitions happen or in CSS Gradients in the browser. Also in Windows 11 desktop on ui elements etc. Had i seen this before the return time expired i would not have keept it. Can anybody with this screen test it if you also notice the same?
How it works for professional use, programing, production? How are small fonts on 100% scaling?
It’s a large workspace which is nice but 4k at this size means a smaller pixel density compared to 4k at 32 or 27 inches so text at 100% looks more pixelated than those monitors. I think it looks fine it just depends on the person though.
@@1UpNerdcore is it rgb sub pixel layout? like a real monitor or is it actually at tv panel?
I would assume it’s BGR, I can’t find any info though
480 with student discount on Samsungs website, is the ghosting that bad? I mainly play warzone 2 and destiny 2
You’ll notice it for sure, with a deal though how much will you care is the question
@@1UpNerdcore thanks for the response, how would you compare against the Aorus FV43U?
What is the overall height of this monitor?
is there any issue, if I use it for productivity.
You just have to make sure your sitting distance will be good for this and use larger text so it’s not pixelated
Can I use it to connect it with my alienware gaming laptop? My screen right now is 17.5 but this will be better I guess.
If your laptop has an HDMI output, then yes. Just be aware that if your laptop's screen is 1080p or 1440p and you use the G7 at 4k, you'll take a nasty performance hit due to your GPU rendering at a higher resolution. If you set the G7 at the same resolution as your laptop's screen, then you shouldn't see a performance hit.

Thanks! Appreciate the help
@@henryestrada1375 No problem. I'm thinking about picking one up for prime day and making a small home movie/gaming theater with it. It's at a perfect price right now to also get a decent recliner, blackout window blinds and a TV stand all for under $1000.
Is it possible to plug in an external hard drive to the USB and play MKV and other video files?
I haven’t tried that and I don’t have the monitor anymore so I couldn’t tell you I’m sorry
I have a 200$ discount from Samsung I’m currently playing on Samsung tv 65” 4k 60fps and it’s beautiful I’m finally committing to a monitor because I want to have 120fps to take advantage because I have the Xbox series X I’m currently in the process of returning a 27” LG 2k 144hz monitor from LG I got on Amazon day, it’ started to flicker & turn off for 1-2 seconds while playing games and it seems like it’s struggling be 120pfs it feels worse than my tv & playing apex legends it was disappointing with the monitor size I couldn’t see anything across the map lol. So I definitely need something bigger than 27” & I want to go back to 4k quality because this LG monitor is kinda disappointing but my fault for having high expectations coming from 4k tv I’ve been looking at this monitor specifically they have it for 799 right now I only play Xbox series X no pc or anything you think this will fit my needs? I’ve seen the reviews it’s less than 3 stars which scares me but 4k 120hz is all I want to play my Xbox at max settings. Unless you have any other recommendations less than 1000$ or will this monitor do the job? Your opinion will be appreciated!
For that price it’s a solid monitor 👍🏻
Can this monitor run the 21:9 widescreen ratio with the PS5? Or is that ratio only for PC?
I don’t have the monitor to test that unfortunately it I would assume if the monitor can force 21:9 then it should be available for the PS5 although it’s just a stretched image since consoles don’t support native ultrawide aspect ratios.
Would this be really good for video editing as well?
It’s good for that, personally I’d take an ultrawide or super ultrawide for video editing though. More horizontal space.
Does this have a built in KVM ?
No
Came to this review because its on sale on amazon at 599. Still think its a decent low end option? If not what monitors do you think are comparable?
If you want the bigger size and the smart features it’s a great choice.
Where can I find the settings to get the best picture for console gaming at ??
The video is on my channel
599@ micro center on sale at this time
My little sound system has earc/optical/coax. Can any of these 43 monitors communicate with it?
I show the ports in the video so if it has any of those it’ll be there when I show the ports
The strobing happens because of your shutter speed while filming, it doesn't have anything to do with the monitor.
I know that can happen but running 144hz and 165on all my other monitors and it’s only happening with this which is why I believe it’s due to overlocking which I’ve recorded with previous monitors even at 120hz which shouldn’t have an issue.
@@1UpNerdcore Oh, okay. My apologies. I see this often in videos with any LED light source (when it is due to shutter speed mismatch). How is the PPI on 43inch 4k monitors? Because I've been more and more interested in one, but like when Windows is really small and really sharp.
So what do you think? I just bought ASUS - ROG Strix 18" 240Hz Gaming Laptop QHD - Intel 13th Gen Core i9 with 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 - 1TB SSD - Eclipse Gray. And basically I just want to play W.o.W and maybe some call of duty, Ark, Realflight, and halo. But I want to used it as my tv, and play my ps4 on it (like supercross 6) is there any others I should consider? Best Buy has it for $600 right now (open box, excellent condition)
I’m going to be plugging everything into ether and HDMI for 8K
Except the mouse and keyboard I was going to go wireless unless I shouldn’t I do have RT-AX3000 in my room so I can pick and choose what I want to have WiFi
Hi, jost got mine today, think for just playing it looks awesome out of the box?😅 But i got one big problem, if i turn of my pc and turn it on like 2-3 hours later, the monitor turns on with a black screen, the rgb is ine, i can hear sound if i push buttons on the remote but it just stays black until i unplug it and plug it back in,does anyone know what is happening?
That sounds like the panel has an issue, I would contact Samsung to get it replaced
Does the monitor get blurry when you enable vrr? I have a Sony TV and the picture gets blurry when I enable vrr
I didn’t notice any when I tested it
how about gsync and its configurations
It is gsync compatible
Hello brother, how good is motion clarity on this monitor?
I cover ghosting in the video 👍🏻
@@1UpNerdcore Understood thanks for informing me about it brother, I have another question if you don't mind, how blurry does the screen get when you move the in-game camera compared to OLED, I have heard many OLED users who complain about motion clarity without using any features like black frame insertion to reduce motion blur. Is the blur really that noticable? Thank you.
How do I install 3rd party Apps on my Samsung Neo G7 43"?
As a TV or even gaming this monitor is fine, in fact for TV it's amazing, for desktop Windows use it blows, washed out no matter what can't get text to stand out.
I’m so torn on this. It’s $500 now but I really just want a monitor to game on and this feels like a tv.
Watch my HDR settings video on it. That might give you a better idea of what it can look like for games
@@1UpNerdcore thanks man I will watch it now, my biggest concern was that ghosting you showed on destiny… I can live with mediocre HDR but ghosting drives me insane.
