    • Ignorant comment here but do you just get nauseous with motion sickness or is there a chance to get a seizure? I get the flashing lights warning that might trigger a seizure but I'm not familiar with the motion sickness side effects. Do you end up running to the bathroom and puke or is it more ominous?

    • I was going to go and comment on this actually, I get motion sickness quite easily from high speed constant motion (that covers too much of my field of view) and I was soooo glad when they showed that, I used my peripheral vision to see what they meant and yeah, I probably would have had to look away anyways. so yeah thank you for that, also in my case the only thing would be I would get really dizzy and have to go lie down for a bit, or it might even trigger my positional vertigo. So nothing life threatening like a seizure warning, but also not something I'd like to experience.

It's less expensive when you don't have to source your components from another vendor that also needs to make their profit. That and Samsung makes some high quality flash and controllers that it's quite common to see Samsung DRAM, NAND, and controllers in a bunch of other SSDs and DRAM modules. • Not sure what peoples thoughts are on this, but this is AMAZING, it's a HUGE step forward in this and a 240hz 4k monitor is exactly what I have wanted for quite some time now. So in a few years time every company will be making one of these, and the prices will lower, and the technology will get better. This monitor is the first step in what we have for the future. I'm running on 1080p 240hz right now and as much as I want 4k, I will be waiting until this is more of a standard and get one

  • To everyone who's considering buying this monitor: Sadly the Neo G8 has a very severe scanlines problem at 240Hz! I am a gamer at heart and for gaming this monitor really delivers, it's just amazing! But I'm also doing tons of image and video editing. So I was looking for a "jack of all traits" monitor and this video had me convinced the Neo G8 would be such a display. But the scanlines that are very visible, particularly in the blue tones, make it practically useless in Photoshop - at least at 240 Hz. When you disable adaptive sync and lower the refresh rate to 120 Hz, the problem *almost* goes away, but still it's not great. Also for most Adobe application, if you're running at 240Hz with adaptive sync on, you'll have to disable adaptive sync for the Adobe apps in your driver, or you'll get constant screen flashing. So unless you're okay with having to switch around a bunch of monitor settings between using this display for gaming or for creative work, this really isn't a jack of all traits monitor. But it's a damn fine gaming monitor! Hope this helps some of you. :)

  • If I didn't already have a Neo G9, I'd probably get one of these instead. Partly I dig the overall design, the Odyssey monitors are the only ones outside Apple's and maybe Samsung's M8 that I really like, everything else is either a plain black rectangle or should have stayed a plain black box (looking at you, Asus). And their OSD is fantastic, super clear, intuitive and easy. That said, you gotta be careful with that backlight. I accidentally flicked my brightness to max a few days ago while working and it just about burnt out my eyeballs. Oh, and my work MacBook Pro (last one pre-M1, with the maxed out GPU) can't run it at 240Hz, only 120Hz. It'll be the same with this, 240Hz on either the G9 or G8 requires a very modern GPU to push that bandwidth. Thankfully, Apple has recently resolved the problems with the M1 processors which frequently couldn't support the 32:9 ratio

Most budget builds on KZhead only bring up the pricing for the pc tower and take out the monitor or kb and mouse.. Even the latest LTT 1000usd build video is guilty of it.. And I know I know people will say we'll reuse the old monitor and other stuff... But that's not always the case... And also isn't it better to suggest an monitor that's perfect for the current config at least and mention how much it will cost us in addition to the pc budget?? For eg. this build will include a 3070 and an i5... Now your best bet is to go for a 1440p monitor/4k monitor at 144hz or plan a 360hz fhd one if you want fps advantage...

  • 1000R means that it's designed for a viewing position optimally1000mm from the screen. Also, I hate "sponsored pieces" since LTT doesn't verify manufacturers' claims. Hardware Unboxed tested the G7 that claims 2000 nits as well and it's only obtainable with one test pattern that the monitor detects and ups the value for (ie Samsung cheats again like for its QOLED TV which also optimized for a particular test pattern for color accuracy), plus none of the IPS/VA monitors that claim 1ms pixel response time actually can do it.

    • Curious if that will change as the lab increases their ability to test these claims

      @DanKaschel@DanKaschel Жыл бұрын
    • That's not what 1000R means precisely. 1000R refers to if you made a circle out of 1000R monitors the radius would be 1000mm, assuming the stated rating is accurate. Ideal viewing distance is going to be more closely related to a display's raw size, as you could easily have a 32" 1000R monitor and a 10" 1000R monitor. Clearly they would have different ideal viewing distances.

    • @Doctor Apathy The point of the curve is to allow a person's eyes to be equidistant from all points on the screen, else a flat screen would be better than having a 1000r screen with a 50cm viewing distance. The radius should vary with the expected ideal viewing distance being the r value, so the 'r' value should vary with monitor pixel pitch, not just raw size like you mention, capiche?

      @BubbaBearsFriend@BubbaBearsFriend Жыл бұрын
    • @@BubbaBearsFriend in an ideal world, you would be correct. That would assume manufacturers are consistent with design. The fact of the matter is that R stands for the radius and the radius only, regardless of ideal viewing distance. There are monitors like this one that's 1000R and 32 inches and there are monitors that are 1500R and 27 inches. You *really* think that 27" is more "ideal" at 1500mm than the 32" would be?

  • Got this and the oped g8 for a Lil over 800 each during black Friday week at samsung and used the student discount (neo g8) and bestbuy open box (oled g8) and decided to keep the neo bc of the 4k and higher refresh rate. Oled version wasn't that impressive and the screen ratio makes the screen feel smaller than it's 34". At $1500 regular price, get the LG 45 OLED which i use as my main monitor. Only downside to the neo g8 is there isn't a remote and u have to use that Lil know underneath the monitor which is a horrible way to have to navigate through ur settings.

    • correct, neither HDMI 2.1 or Displayport 1.4 can display 4k 120hz, they have stream compression to force going up to 240hz, so its not a genuine 4k 240hz experience. Might as well just run it at 4k 120hz. Also, it doesnt genuinely run at 4k 120hz as HDMI 2.1 but as glorified HDMI 2.0 currently (can change with a firmware update) but the PS5 and XBOX series X does not run 4k 120hz with this monitor currently. so yeah. I would just go with the LG C1 or C2 for the price. really cant beat an OLED

    • @@tymtrppr3 You said everything right, right up until you suggested a OLED LG c-series for gaming. OLED is inherently flawed for low-latecny activates. Huge pixel persistence and high pixel response times on OLED, even the most modern stuff, HDTVTest (who is also a big fan of the LG c-series) talks about this frequently. You want modern LED for gaming, and OLED for movies. I'd also argue against the c-series that is now getting a bit old when the Sony Bravia A95K exists and absolutely DUSTS anything LG has put out. Even Samsungs new S95B puts the C-series to shame now.

    • To me, the selling point of this monitor is the mini-led. The 240hz is a marketing gimmick, but I’ll just run it at 120hz and be happy. That’s still plenty smooth unless your a competitive gamer. Oled is good too, but 42 inches is just too large for a desktop environment, which is the smallest currently available.
