  • I bought one, two actually but here is my experience. Awesome monitor, but first unit came with three dead pixels right in the middle of the screen, the core lighting was dim and the monitor would not save my personalized brightness, black equalizer or core lighting color. Every time the monitor turned off, it would reset back to factory default settings. So I returned it to Amazon and ordered another one while it was on sale for 1200. Second unit was much better, one dead pixel in the upper right area of the monitor where the X is for your close windows button but otherwise no defects and the core lighting is bright like it should be. The monitor saves the settings after power down and I have had no other issues. Scan lines are a thing with both units but I don't find it noticeable from my viewing, seating position. Bottom line. QC as mentioned in this video is total garbage. If you buy this monitor from any vendor, amazon, best buy, frys etc you WILL be rolling the dice. That said, for 4k and 32in, there is no better display. This VA panel is MUCH better than the 27in 4k Ultragear IPS it replaced. The colors and image quality are the best on the market right now. You just need to be willing to roll the dice and accept you might need to return one or two. Cheers gents.

  • When I had a dead pixel on my G7 (non-neo) back in 2020, I had an absolute nightmare with Samsung support where the representative said that the warranty does not cover screen issues. Yeah... I couldn't believe it either that a monitor warranty doesn't cover the screen. About 3 days of fighting on the phone got me an RMA that took 2 weeks though.

  • Thank you so much for this amazing detailed review. Scanlines is due to the 1000 curve I think as they have done a lot of firmware updates to the previous g7 and it did not disappear as many confirms, this issue is really troublesome more qc would have made this new product perfect, but it is impossible to combine a VA 240 monitor with a 1000r curve and to be honest nothing is wrong in making a Flat g8 neo

I made my purchase at my local microcenter where their warranty/return policy is fantastic so I was ready to return it if I encountered one of these issues. I'd recommend the monitor if anyone else has that kind of luxury for local return/rma, avoid buying it online. It really is a fantastic monitor if you get lucky.

    • The whole scanline issue is overrated anyway. There is a reason most scanline shots are taken up close (or zoomed in). And even if it was terrible, the monitor @120hz is still better than any 4k non oled in that pricerange and you get the option to use 240hz with scanlines if you desire.

      @TheDarknessOW@TheDarknessOW Жыл бұрын
    • Did you look closely on your monitor @ 240Hz? The scan lines is only visible to me on my G8 if I get really close to the screen... like 4-8 inches or so. Not visible at all @120Hz. Mine has 2 defects though--a pixel size dirt on the top right corner of the screen and a 2 inches scratch at the bottom left side of the bezel. Don't feel like RMA'ng just 'coz of these. @Ryuuken24@Ryuuken24 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Ryuuken24 I don't know anybody who actually has backlight strobing/back frame insertion enabled, so to me that's one of the top gimmick features. I've tried it multiple times with different monitors, and frame crosstalk is inevitable when the best LCD monitors have 4ms+ response times. 1 frame @ 240 Hz is ~4.2 ms, you'd need half of that *in all transitions* to avoid frame crosstalk whatsoever - this is not the case in any LCD. Only OLED displays can do proper BFI that actually improves picture quality under all circumstances. Saying that high refresh looks like shit just because it doesn't support BFI is, to say the least, absurd.

      @iagobkstar@iagobkstar Жыл бұрын
    • @@iagobkstar It's not something any simpleton would get with a simple explanation. You have to see it side by side to a shitty high Hz display to get why BFI with high Hz is a better solution. • 1800R is the curve they should be using if they want a curved display. Its subtle and makes a difference and doesn't cause distortion. Otherwise, for this size monitor, flat is the other option. When you mentioned in the video the FALD backlight array was "46 x 26 grid", that would be a great ROW to have in your table @18:16 for the TV specs so viewers don't have to scan through the video to see if you mentioned it.

If the theory is true, then Samsung doesn't need to drive the 165hz Neo G7 pixels as fast and as a result get a higher contrast ratio. While the Neo g8 needs to compromise on contrast to achieve fast 240hz performance.

    • I get it, Oled has some flaws but in my honest opinion, Burn-In isn't one of them. You just gotta use your brain how to prevent it, and because 99% of people who use an Oled TV as a desktop are on Windows anyway, it's really easy to tweak the OS to prevent Burn-In to a great extent. 1. Use a cycling background, which changes every 5-10min or so, and with atleast 4 different wallpapers. 2. Use the Autohide mousecursor, which fades out your cursor when not in use after 5-120 seconds, and instantly shows it again when you use your mouse. 3. Autohide your taskbar in the windows options after a few seconds. 4. Tweak the taskbar so it hides completly without some pixels showing 5. Set the montior to go to sleep after 30min or so of inactivity. Now you don't have any burnin. At least I don't on my LG C1 which I use alot since like 3 years

That isn't a Samsung. (Both my current and my previous monitor were Samsungs, both needed replacing due to dying rather than natural replacement.) Things like a good SRBG mode and overall good colors are also important. 2 more things that monitor does very well according to your reviews. Edit: Note that the 500-ish dollar price that monitor is listed for in Norway is after tax, so if it's listed as a lot less than that in the US that's why. Edit the second: The LG 27GP850-B, which I think is exactly the same as the non-B variant, is a 100 dollars cheaper in Norway. I think that's just straight up the better buy then? • Add 165Hz> and proper sRGB clamp and no restrictions in sRGB mode. Samsung already gets close but it's missing DP 2.0 and has to rely on old 1.4 with DSC and has constant QC issues. As for G-.Sync - no thank you. Not the same old hardware module that needs active cooling and has only HDMI 2.0 ports.

  • I was gutted after seeing this review after I had just pre-ordered this monitor. I literally had been waiting for two years for a monitor which ticked my boxes (A high refresh rate 4K monitor which had decent HDR, a good amount of dimming zones etc). I decided to stick with it anyway, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I've tried hard to find any faults and spot scanlines or panel defects, but I may have been one of the lucky ones cause my panel seems to have no issues, and overall, this monitor is ridiculously good when it comes to gaming. Nevertheless thank you Hardware Unboxed for the stellar review and keeping us all informed as always!

    • @@I.AMWallzy The human eye being curved means all objects you look at have to be curved or on a curvature is among the dumbest arguments I've ever heard. They eye can perceive flat images as well as curved images as they are. Curved displays with aggressive curves are terrible. They distort the images pure and simple. Worst offenders are 16:9 with 1000R that Samsung uses. There are displays with mild curves like the 21:9 ones with 1800R curves. Those are fine. Any curves more aggresive than 1800R are progressively worse.

  • a 1000R curve is a 1000R curve, it doesn't matter how big or wide the monitor is. it literally has the same effect in terms of distoring the view, which it actually does less so than a flat panel as long as you are within the radius of the curve.

  • It's great that guys like you exist in the benchmark community. Lots of reviews don't focus that much on the defects/drawbacks and while this may not be as important on average screens, here we are speaking of a 1500$ monitor. It's supposed to be a flagship, it creates expectations and some benchmarks become misleading if they don't show the defects. It's not necessarily about being a bad product, but again you make plans around that promised performance.
