I'm trying to imagine a way for this to become 6 string, but the only thing I can think would require 6 sensors, and at that point you might as well just build an actual 6 string guitar out of lego, which would probably just vibrate apart.

That's probably so he can identify the notes in his editing software, otherwise this would be so much more difficult to edit, as you have no idea if you selected the right clip or not.

I think the way I would approach this, editing wise, would be to record all the required notes just once, then name each file the note name and then make a ffmpeg script to put together the note clips in the correct order

Do you do all the editing by hand or do you have some sort of script that automates the work?

I think the way I would approach this, editing wise, would be to record all the required notes just once, then name each file the note name and then make a ffmpeg script to put together the note clips in the correct order

yeah maybe use some mid to be super ""lazy"" you could make an app to play them live in unity or something too, 'live', plenty of ram nowadays. a .mid lego guitar player and churn out vids :D (sure it needs to get the right instrument from the mid but still)
