This is a Lego Mindstorms EV3 guitar. It generates sounds based on 12 fret positions and 5 buttons. Sound comes from the EV3 Brick (95646) internal speaker. Fret position is measured by EV3 Ultrasonic Sensor (95652). The guitar can be used as a solo guitar, rock guitar and bass guitar with different EV3 programs. Built completely from Lego parts. Enjoy!

Cool. Now play Through The Fire and Flames on it.
He did it
He did. I hope you like the result.
Wish granted
He made a video with your comment on it
W suggestion
anyone else impressed by the accuracy of the ultrasonic sensor?
Yes, the units I've dealt with have been shit, I didn't know they could be that good
It sounds like the sensor value is bucketed/quantized before pitch generation, so sensor inaccuracies are probably smoothed out
@@gooball2005 Stuff like this actually becomes more interesting with the inaccuracies.
its actually not very accurate

That rock guitar sound font is so Doom. I love it.
Right? Sounds like something you’d hear on the Sega Genesis haha.
It does have an OPL-3 style to it.
it's probably a low quality version of the sc-55 overdrive guitar playing a power chord
@@JasperVGuitar I couldn't tell if it was a chord or just overtones or timbre or something.
Yes , yes it is !
My father is both a guitarist and a Lego enthusiast. Or really, just a building things enthusiast. He used to apply all the decals for me when I was too young to be interested in getting them on right. Anyway. I sent this to him. Thanks for your great content!!
This is really wholesome
send him the new video
First thing I thought of, when seeing this video, was showing it to my father as well. 😂
Lego featured this kind of thing as an alt build in this exact Mindstorms set (it was called EL3CTRIC GUITAR), but it used the included infrared sensor for measuring frets instead of the ultrasonic sensor you had to get separately
I was about to mention this, I was sure I remembered making it myself with the nxt 2, but I wasn't sure if I looked up fan instructions or it was just an alt build.
As a guitarist and a Lego builder, I say this is amazing! Edit: wow! 1.8k likes thanks!
As a legoist and guitar builder i agree
@@gaveintothedarkness As a lego and a guitar i agree
@hd01 good for you, man. Proud of you.
as a agree and guitar lego i builder
guitarist i builder, and amazing! Lego is say As a this a
Smoke on water on this guitar sounds like a boss song from an old 16 bit game lol
Straight outta the Doom soundtrack
I get game ending vibes from that lol
I'm highly surprised by the accuracy of that LEGO sensor wow.
Yes at close range it is extremely accurate however the new spike Prime sensors are really bad
The tilt sensor is hot drifting garbage though
@@BrixDownUnder is it that bad?
@@curtishuang5534 the drift is usually predictable though
I think it seems more accurate because he uses discrete intervals for the notes, meaning he only has to be within a certain range of distance and the note will always be produced. Even if the sensor would not be that accurate, doing this will probably still make it work. It of course might be / is very accurate I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything ;)
If you make the pitch changing continuous instead of discrete you get an Otamatone! :D
i wanna make it and do this, but actually with a LOT of discrete tones
This is awesome! I can't wait for the V2, where it'll have 8 strings, the full 24 frets and the ability to play chords/technical deathmetal.
*through the fire and flames starts playing*
can’t wait to play Flying Whales on a Lego guitar
@@Dannymon what about the power rangers song?
@@geo-fry6372 ohhhhhhhhhhhh nice gojira reference
A 6 course baroque lute XD
I teach robotics with the EV3 Lego sets. I am definitely going to make this as one of my projects.
I remember building one of these from nxtprograms as a small child and only now am I realizing that the ultrasonic sensor absolutely does not have to be way up at the head.
Okay I am definitely getting this this is so cool! I'm a huge LEGO fan and I can kind of play bass, this would be a lot of fun to mess around with!

I used to make guitars from lego, when I was a kid. Later on I learned to play guitar in my teens. I've been playing guitar for 30+ years and still love LEGO technic and guitars. This video is all about it. 👍
What a brilliant idea... really impressed, I think this kind of approach could also be used for video game controllers! Thank you for Inspiring me!
How would this apply to controllers?
@@deimos351 EV3 is a programmable brick, that literally can do everything. Imagine it's a rhythm game controller connecting to PC and the game is checking the timing of the button press. There're other videos using EV3 as a controller so check them out.
1:40 i love it, I'm glad you chose this song
I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually manages to build a Lego Pipe Organ. 😂
That rock guitar has some blast processing
what did i just watch actually so inventive, yet so weird in a positively different way nevertheless, i love this channel
Evrything coming from this channel is gold, thx for uploading 😀
I really like the Instructions.
Well done, looks fun! I was almost expecting you to play Through the Fire and the Flames. :D
Every time you upload, I see you pushing the boundaries further and further when it comes to what most people consider possible with Legos. That's truly what engineering is all about. Keep up this fun and fulfilling hobby, you're doing awesome stuff!
Absolutely rad dude🤟 Rock on!
Amazing work, so good, love the videos, just the best lego channel. Keep it up!
truely one of the best singles by james hetfield
More impressed by his dedication that he learned to play music. I love you bro, your are emotion for me.
FINALLY A BRICK EXPERIMENT CHANNEL VID
As a guitarist and a somewhat fan of this channel, this was awesome!
Amazing, Absolutely amazing!!
Thats so cool! Good job!
An amazing Christmas gift!!
This is pretty wild, and I think the idea has a lot of potential, especially for a Lego bass.
Amazing! Sound very good!!!
What a cute little idea, clever too.
That's insane, dude! :D
Happy to see 0 3 5 make an appearance. Great work!
I am very impressed by countless builds done with Lego, but I think this one stands out more from the rest, I mean, you created an instrument, what's not to be impressed, my contratulations, you deserve them all
The ultimate gear to practice ja.. Anyways really good build it looks really good you did a really good job making it work and stuff
what playability and what a beautiful sound the practically absent noise of the instrument, not to mention the quality of the materials used, the convenience and comfort of the ergonomics. Really all excellent, a video not boring at all not like the usual videos clickbait
I almost died when Smoke On The Water came on, I was definitely not expecting that!
I love this idea. The very thought of using LEGO to make a playable musical instrument is Wonderful and exactly the sort of thing LEGO wants people to do.
Wow that's some real out of the box thinking!
I’m glad you played it first instead of making a 10 minute video of how to build it and then playing it for 30 seconds like some other channels do
Some people just dont think like others... Tgis was amazing
wow this is amazing. i never had any technic sets my whole life. im just now getting into a little bit of programming. being a long time guitarist this makes me want to be an engineer lol
this is a great tool to start learning guitar
Phantastic idea!!!!
the ability to slide the sounds up is amazing lol!
Love your videos man!
very nice i like it i love it ❤

Oh this is amazing
That's my type of christmas song!
... and I remember when Guitar Hero was the ultimate christmas gift. now the concept has been Lego-ised and just needs to be put on screen.
i remember a similar design on the og mindstorm forums back in 2010s. crazy
Ooh, sounds like a good video!

That's so genius omg
AWESOME!!!!!
that's awesome
Finally cool stuff on KZhead
Impresive
I had déjà vu just before the second tune. In my head I could hear the bass line to Smoke. Freaky.
Exelent full of emotions
Great build. Just one suggestion, if you end up making a second version, make it have 12 notes so it has a full octave. Still an amazing build tho
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Miss your video's brother. Love from 🇮🇳❤️
i need to hear though the fire and the flames on this
Smoke on the water was unexpected
Awesome
cant wait to see or play the "free bird" solo
good job
This is damn impressive, well done!
fire and flames solo
This mad lad actually 0-3-5'd with Lego. What a chad.
