The new matte black MacBook Pro is more capable than ever, and it's surprisingly good at playing super high quality games that I don't actually care about 😅

I would love a 3 years on M1 Max video. Especially comparing it to both what’s out there on the PC side and the M3 Max. If you have the time to make it happen Marques, I’ll watch it.
I can game on my m1 max. Alien isolation runs at full specs. Ive been gaming on it for ages now. Its great. Just the selection is small. Lara croft tomb raider plays in High setting everything.
alien isolation is ported to mac? I have an m1 Pro and I'd love to have some heart attacks.. if my mac is enough :)@@MA-ik7ys
It's been 2 yrs
My m2 pro can game. I play no man’s sky at 1440p enhanced settings at 120FPS with with performance quality enabled. I can target that performance while recording with OBS.
why is bro saying 3 years when its barely been 2 lmao
Looking forward to Tim Cook quoting MKBHD at the next Apple Event: "I logged in and I cancelled my order and I will continue to daily what I have for the past three years now, with the M1 Max 16 inch Macbook Pro. Turns out it's not for me."
They are probably gonna quote his last line where he states all the positives in one sentences.
"Games thats i dont care about" Thats what i wanna see in the Apple event
If you were running a business like apple, would you do that?
Nah, Apple will just stick to quoting Engadget reviews instead. They almost never say anything negative about Apple products. Hell, up until a few months ago they were still defending Apple's decision to only include 8 GB of RAM in the base model of their new products.
They could but would spin it as a statement showing just how much superior their silicon has been that even 3 years later it is still a top of the line product.
MKB had a good feeling about this and glad you did a Video exploring the differences between them. Thanks so much for sharing.✌️💯
I really love you bro, whenever I need tech advice you have been the go to for the past decade
The white power brick is crazy 😂💰
It's so apple
White power brick
Bro you cant come in here talking about white power. Its not cool.
Trash design, my brick fall off the outlet all the time
The what now?
M1 feels like it was released yesterday and here we are now…
😂nah I'm already using it for 2 years😂
Seems we did not go very far, considering there is no meaningfull difference and Marques literally canceled his order...
I recently got an M1 Pro device and it’s a beast.
@@marwin4348If this is what Apple can do in 9 months I think they should update their chipset every other year.

This is super helpful, as always. Super clear, entertaining, concise and useful. Thank you!
Despite Apple took him into account in its last event he says things as they should be. My Respect Marques!
He's too big to be pushed around by companies.

Makes me so happy to see a Tech KZheadr, as high as you, who just stays true to himself and doesn't keep pushing people towards buying stuff they don't need. One of the big reasons I still follow your channel and you specifically. There's already enough massive channels who are basically creating just ads that people watch voluntarily.
the irony
Yes, would also give kudos for sticking w/ your M1 Max MBP. Clearly you can afford it / could justify it, but don't need it, and so sticking with your old one. Cool in its own right!
I think you're just watching the wrong people. There's literally so many tech KZheadrs who will tell you not to buy a product if it's shit. In fact, just as much as some KZheadrs just say "buy it" no matter what cause it gets views. There's just as many KZheadrs who know being super negative and shitting on everything gets views too. Marques is great but you really don't need to suck him off this hard.
I would be happy if major influencers raise their voice against pricing. RAM upgrade is almost 10 times more than should be. It is robbery and should be illegal!
And yet when it’s an ANDROID product people like MK go nuts for the products , the contradictions are there if you aren’t a fanboy.
Great video. One of the things I use Mac graphics capability for, is driving many large external monitors. The limitation here is the lack of USB-C ports, not the GPU power the Mac has. I really wish Apple would make a Mac laptop with more USB-C ports, especially as they took away one of them already for the MagSafe power slot. For fast and reliable video, you really need to dedicate a port to it, and not use any kind of splitter or daisy chain, so the number of ports you have limits the number of monitors you can hook up.
Thank you so much for the verdict. I was almost ready to upgrade from my M1 Max to a M3 Max. This saves money!
I'm glad more creators show that they keep using old hardware. That totally make sense and it's the way to go.
Still using my m1 air, I wanted to play some games so I just use Nvidia GeForce Now cloud gaming. Other than that the m1 air is still super good. I can have two windows of safari open with multiple tabs running, KZhead video playing, Spotify, and VScode for web dev on an external display simultaneously with no issues
@@mickyJfando you do any 4k video editing?
@@npc2kI used to with Filmora. Handled it just fine, long export times though, and would recommend getting a MBP for lots of special effects
But for simple 4K editing, no issue at all
@@npc2kI’ve edited, finished and delivered to NBC universal and other three national TV networks in Europe a documentary shot in RAW with 9 cinema cameras using just a baseline mac mini M1 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. It was during the pandemic and that was what I had at home. Everything worked flawlessly without even making proxies. I would spend 3-4-5k only for a machine that really gives me more power in ray tracing when I do some 3D. But we are still not there.
1:16 is messing with my mind, and shows perfectly how the color looks way different on video, unless you have a proper reference. Props for showing that!
Yeah the moment he brings in the black surface the black macbook looks like space grey, but honestly I do wonder if this really matters all that much in a silo it looks fine and I don't think many people would be placing the macbook on a black surface often enough to see how non-black it is (unless you have a black desk that is)
It looks still pretty black
Yes. I was almost thinking, "Not dark enough? What are you talking about Marques?....." Until I saw him compare it with the really dark laptop.
Yeah it looks so black at 1:11, and the color turn so light at 1:18😮
i just wish he showed it beside the midnight colorway too
What a fantastic video. Love your editing style, so effortlessly done.. love that you don’t use much background effects and the audio is still on point in a great presentation style with outstanding narration.

I did the same thing for the M3 Pro I ordered at launch. I canceled it a few days before it was supposed to ship and decided to keep my M1P (10/16) because it still does everything I need it to with plenty of overhead remaining.
It's great to see a tech reviewer like Marques say that you don't need to upgrade every year! And that you should continue to use your current setup since it's enough!
And follow through
also awful to see him play games with a trackpad lol
Basically every tech reviewer doesn't recommend upgrading every year?
Nobody says you need to upgrade every year, you're just an idiot if you believe that in the first place or could be convinced of it otherwise.
He says that always. New or something? Or just dumb?

And then they literally scrubbed them. 😂
Yeah because most people don’t upgrade yearly.

I love the success of this channel over the years, the humility of today and not throwing money at a spec bump. Kudos for the honest, upfront and measured approach to today's video.
I would not associate beeing an apple customer ready to upgrade his stuff every 3 years with "humility" and "not throwing money". But I guess it depends on your standards

Completely agree with your outcome on keeping the M1. The space black definitely tempted me, a lot, but for what I do my base 16" M1 Pro is still more than enough, and I was lucky enough to get it for half off MSRP as an open-box item from Best Buy. When the M3 Max 30-core/40-core GPU is available in open-box for close to half off, I will probably do that and sell the M1 Pro to hopefully take a big chunk off that cost. I want that color! Thanks for the great video as always.
How do you get lucky enough to find open box macbooks? Just ask the Best Buy desk? Or do you have to work there (or other laptop stores)/know someone there?
@@massive_dronerask about open box at any Best Buy store if your lucky there will be one available at your local area
How I love your honest unbiased reviews unlike others. Hence why you are where you are, keep staying honest my friend.
Wow-I was not expecting that conclusion! Definitely agree, even my meager 14” M1 Pro is still holding up quite well, fending off my usual update lust without even a second thought. Still great to see the tech moving forward, still love watching the reviews, but even more happy to find measured, more realistic assessments like this. Not many reviewers would tell you that they cancelled their own personal orders, opting to remain on years old tech, kudos!
I’m in the exact same boat! 16 M1 Pro is holding up perfectly and I can’t see myself updating for a bit.
Meager m1 pro? I'm still using my m1 air 16gb 256 for full stack web development and it's still blazingly fast. Editing videos and playing games would be another thing tho. Otherwise I don't see why it won't serve me for at least 5 more years.
nothing meager about an M1 Pro chip
I would really like to know how the hinge is holding up coz in my last laptop(not a macbook 😅) that was the part that gave me a lot of problems
Im still using my 2017 macbook pro, still working as it did when I bought it so still performing perfectly for me. I think i can give it a few years
Thanks Marques! This is the most honest review in the whole world of KZhead. You didn't just show off a super expensive M3 Max with benchmarks, you gave a real daily use opinion. You showed the whole consumerist world that money has value
I’d be really interested in seeing how Macbooks and particularly the M series performs on gaming. A lot of software engineers use a MacBook cause their company gives that and when you are mobile or in general want to take a break between work, Steam comes to the rescue. I know there are channels already catering to the macbook crowd, but you have a very grounded understanding of the audience a device caters to and how they use it. It certainly will be refreshing compared to the technical analysis style of videos! So yeah, a dedicated gaming performance review kind of video or even a section in a longer video will help a lot.
second this video idea. also I can say as someone who is in the exact demographic you've described (SWE with a mac - m2 to be specific), I've been able to get quite a lot of serious gaming out of it I played: - diablo 4 - return of the obra dinn - many rounds of hearthstone battlegrounds - factorio - black mesa (HL remake) - the witness - divinity 2 - into the breach - binding of issac mind you, most of these games aren't AAA games so maybe this idea of using a mac for games breaksdown as games get more intenstive but something I also want to mention is that, some of these games are built only for windows (Diablo 4 being the most apparent in my list), but I was still able to play it bc apple released their game porting tool. what's nice is this tool isn't built just for developers. so technically, you don't have to wait for the devs to port their game over to mac. you can just install windows games using apple's game porting tool and it will work out of the box - no extra configuration needed. but this tool does assume you know how to use a bash terminal. but if there is a specific game you want to play, espeically if it's a famous game like diablo 4, you can find a guide that walks you through the install steps on youtube nonetheless, every game I've mentioned ran with at least 60 FPS on a 1080p 34inch wide screen monitor with at least medium settings or higher. I feel like if you happen to have access to one of these laptops, don't sleep on what's possible with the hardware you're given
Thanks for the many thorough and to-the-point videos about M2 Max, M2 Pro, M2 Ultra, M3 Max, and Studio Display. After binging on your videos, I've assessed that I need the computing power of Mac M2 Ultra Studio but with that I would also need a display. You showed the 2023 Studio Display is not the ultimate upgrade in displays. The Studio Display does lack PWM, which is really important for me; my iMac M1 also lacks PWM. For my budget, I've decided to go with 14" MBP M3 Max 64GB because the M3 Max comes close to the M2 Ultra in performance, and I can screen share the MBP 14" M3 Max to my iMac M1 via thunderbridge and through a long great quality thunderbolt cable. I just hope that the occasional direct use of the M3 Max screen doesn't trigger headaches for me. My applications do not need the graphics capability but do need the mult-cores and computation speed. Your videos delivered a focused message, the benchmarks and perspectives that I needed today. Kudos!
The part that I love MKBHD so much is that even though this guy can afford a Porsche without an eye-blinking, he still cares about his viewers and keeps making reasonable recommendations to them, which is to say us. This guy knows why we are watching this channel, for fun, of course, but also for recommendations when we really need to decide whether we should buy the latest model or not. Thank you MKBHD, for everything.

Love how to the point the sponsor segment was. Really goes to show the priorities of Visible and Marques.
I am considering either adding a Studio to my setup or swapping my 16 in Pro with the Studio. The biggest bottleneck for me is the ports. Before others say I should buy a usb dongle or two, I already have 3 usb dongles. Otherwise the computer does the job performance wise. I don't think upgrading from the m1 max to the m3 max will net me much performance in daily tasks. Maybe some rare cases it could. I almost always have it plugged in because the battery life is garbage with the amount of devices I have plugged in. having a non portAble computer would work for me.
Thank you for always keeping it 100.
If a KZheadr like MKBHD doesn't need this Machine, then I am sure the 99% of us will not need it. Respect for staying true to the community.
Could also be the case that since he already has a mac studio it has already encompassed his high end workflow based on it and uses laptops more for their portable entertainment. Pretty sure anyone who uses their laptop as an exclusive computing device for high end workflow that doesn't game (and also provided the person is rich enough go for top end) I think its for them. Then again those people are also probably fewer than 1% soo your statement may as well be still true
yeah, the honesty is extremely refreshing and why we come back every time
Still rocking my 14" M1 Pro and it's been working just fine! Glad to see a tech reviewer not switching to the latest and greatest Macbook since the older Macbook is still chugging nicely along.
I got the 14” M1 Pro as well, honestly it was way overkill for what I use it for. Still happy with it, I don’t see me upgrading anytime soon.
😮
Exact same situation here as well. Base M1 MBP is such a powerhouse on it’s own, I just can’t justify upgrading for quite some time.
Same here, m1 pro base model. It is overkill fr.
I'm in a weird spot. I've got a 2016 Macbook Pro, and it's still impressive. I know these newer M series chips are that next step up, but until I can justify the switch, I'm happy to keep on with what I've got. In 2026, a decade later, maybe I'll finally make the switch, but until then, I don't see it happening.
I am happy now that you are reviewing things based on your needs too. This is a very good lesson for people to analyze their consumption and only buy things that they really need. That’s a way better step for Planet.
Absolutely, the idea of upgrading a laptop within 1-4 years is ecologically disastrous.
Happy to see some people giving a thought to the environment in tech community which is riddled with unsustainable consumerism.
This sort of thinking would literally bankrupt Apple. Despite all their hypocritical virtue signaling, if you aren't filling landfills with their products while encouraging them to exploit foreign labor their business model falls apart.
Apple does seem to focus hard on this new line of products when it comes to gaming. Question, do games only confirm to work on macs if they are approved for the app store? And if so would this not be the thing shooting them in the foot since steam is practically every PC gamers go too?
Steam exists on the Mac too; you can install games from anywhere. MacOS is not limited to App Store like iOS.
And some games you don’t have to buy twice. Baldurs gate 3 can both be installed on your Mac and pc via steam
even he isnt focusing hard on gaming, hes playing games with a trackpad he doesnt care either he just needs some video
steam is great and has mac support for decades. you can filter by which games run on mac. baldurs gate 3 is a recent game which runs great on my m1 max mbp. so to answer your question, no. plenty more options available through steam (or other stores).
The thing is pc computing also gonna migrate to arm. Means they will get way more compatibility with m series of apple. Games will be way easier to port for same architecture
Hey Marques, I've been a huge fan of your content for a while now, and it has been incredibly helpful as Im looking to get a laptop for my Harvard CS50 and coding courses. Your insights have made a significant impact on my learning journey. Unfortunately, I'm currently facing some financial constraints, and affording a MacBook for my coursework is a bit challenging. Wow huge props for keeping your older laptop that still does what you need it to do!
This content is pretty objective and honest, to the point that I even watch the sponsor part. Now I wonder if somebody is using these machines for serious works like optimization, realtime image processing.
Thanks for sharing this review
I would be curious to know how much better the M3 Max is verses the M1 Pro. I originally purchased the M1 Pro MBP for travel and meetings, however it was so good that I've been using it as my daily machine for almost 2 years. I do architectural CAD work on it with two 32" monitors (one is 4k the other is 2.5k).
Great decision Marques. I have a Macbook Pro M1 Max 32GB 1TB and it has everything I need. I won't update for years. In fact, I switched to Silicon because I had an iMac i7 32 GB 1TB 27 inches and I moved to Silicon to have macOS and Adobe Creative Cloud updated, but until last year when I bought the Macbook Pro I worked with High Sierra and Adobe CS6. All the best.
I have the exact same MacBook. It’s still blazingly fast. No need to upgrade.
I make tech videos just like mkbhd would preciate it if you gave them a shot
Thank you for your honesty in this and I'm proud of you for going against the grain and upgrading just for the sake of upgrading because it's new and shiny. Your reach on this "mine's good enough" approach is so great for the environment.
playing games with the touchpad? Absolutely barbaric
I think this update is for people upgrading from intel base Macs the most, because to them it would be scary fast. All in all great stuff.
Been watching your videos since the iPhone 5S and your growth is truly immaculate. Every video is amazing and I can never get enough of them man!
I’m not a person that needs a very powerful laptop to do my job, but I’d definitely buy a powerful Mac for gaming if more games were available. It’s time for Apple to start investing in more and more deals with gaming companies to port as many games as possible.
I agree, I'm not a pro gamer, but I have enjoyed gaming my whole life. But I have also been a Mac fan. And I have not wanted to have two computers. So I have been one of the few, running Windows on boot camp and playing windows games on a Mac with a horrible FPS of sometime sub 10 in online Multi player games. I think there are more out there like me, that If Apple started taking gaming more seriously, they would find more customers willing to pay the Apple premium price, if it meant getting a great computer for work, that also supports the games to like to enjoy in your spare time. 😊
Bro for real. I have a gaming pc and have for a long time. Several years ago, before the M1 happened, I bought a MacBook Pro because I needed a new laptop and I always wanted one (had money from insurance). macOS is fucking awesome. Super smooth and the gestures on that big wonderful trackpad were amazing. MacBook trackpads are just *chefs kiss*. Anyway I loved that thing but ended up selling it because I had an iPad Pro and honestly I didn’t need both. If these new MacBooks with crazy M3 (etc) chips, that can perform insane numbers for how small the laptops are, could actually play video games as they came out just like pc can, I think a lot of people would consider buying them because then MacBooks would be an insane all around portable computer. Might even get some money from me haha. Gaming pc laptops of similar performance would not be as slim as a MacBook which is a selling point.

Great video! I've never owned a Mac and just switched to iPhone, so I went forward with a M3 Pro, since I figured I might as well get the newest model for my first one. For anyone who already has an M model Mac, it totally makes sense not to upgrade yet.
Quite honestly, as someone who is buying a new laptop and can't quite afford the newest, I really do like how the M3/M2 Macbooks look. They look aesthetically so beautiful, and that way smaller bezel on the new macbooks alone would make it worth it to me. In a year from now, I'll be out of a tough financial situation, but yeah. I really don't feel bad at all about buying an M1 macbook. They're still entirely overkill for the average consumer and for what I want to do on a laptop. Enjoy! I'm thinking of switching from an s22 ultra to iphone. How are you liking all the apple stuff? I dont fiddle with my tech much anymore and I'm just bored of samsung.
@@hobosnake1hello, allow me to answer in this fellows stead. Switching from Android (had a OnePlus 5) to an iPhone 11 was such a good decision. Of course my Oneplus wasn’t the latest at that time but holy shit my iPhone blew me away i loved it from day one. I’m very organised (i like stuff to have a orderly look) so iOS played right into this and actually encouraged me to use more of it’s capabilities and features to get more organisation and benefit out of it. Never have i missed anything besides the Google keyboard (you’ll get used to it after a while) and maybe a bit better file manager but it’s okay i need it only from time to time. This was all 2020. Now 2023 my 14 pro is now an year old (yes my 11 retired after 2 years) and i love it even more. iOS is getting better with every update and my iPhone perform crazy good. Now i’m about to make the same decision you are making. Deciding what my first Mac is going to be (then my family of iPhone, iPad, watch, airpods and apple tv will be complete). I’m probably also gonna go for the 16” M3 pro MacBook pro cause i kinda feel like getting the latest instead of buying refurbished M1 or 2. It’s way more expensive but i kinda feel better thinking about that. I have by no means problems with refurbished since i bought my iPad Pro 2018 that way but idk i kinda want a new macbook now. Anyway that’s my 2 cents about this. Edit: oh and also there are two M1 MacBook Pro version when it comes to the design and port situation. One with the old design (less ports and no notch) and one with the new design (more ports and sleeker notch design) wich Mkb is using as well. I’m sure you’ll find good refurbished M1 Pro MacBook Pro deals. Ah shit maybe i should reconsider as well…but the M3 pro… ah man drives me nuts it’s so stupid lmao
I've been using an M1 Max MBP for a while now, that I got from Apple's refurb store and have still been incredibly happy with it. Great hearing your perspective on it vs. the new M3 stuff!

I would love to see a long-term review of the MacBook Pro. As someone who also has the M1 Max, there is not a single thing I can complain about other than the battery life not being what it was from 2 years ago.
Same, my battery life has taken a bit of a nosedive since when I first got it. Otherwise, it's still incredibly fast.
Just purchased mine this afternoon as a promotion gift to myself! Can't wait to get home.
I upgraded to the 14in M3 Max (14 CPU, 30 GPU, 36GB RAM, 1TB SSD) from a base model 2018 Intel Macbook Pro Touch Bar. It got to the point where my fans were ramping up while just browsing the web and screen mirroring content. I am excited I did though. I always felt that macbook was holding me back performance wise. Video editing on it was slow and inefficient (crashed a lot or space issues). Its nice have a computer that doesn't cook your legs while performing basic or PRO tasks. I also used some discounts to lower the price while trading in my older macbook as well. Apple gave me $310 for the macbook, and my student discount brought the price down from $3199 to $2899. Out the door price was $2802.59
Thanks Marques! I feel better about the deal I got on eBay last week. For $2075, I got a 16-inch macbook pro with m1 max 64gb 1tb 32gpu. It has apple care until Jan 2025. It is in excellent condition and its battery only has 22 cycles. The Apple Trade In value for this machine is only $1355, so this was a win for the seller and me.
Nice find man!
That was a good scoop
Damn, that was great ! Why did the person sell it with only 22 charge cycles? Upgrading ?

You wasted your money. What MKBHD said was more geared toward people who already had one of the older machines. Buying an outdated machine now is silly, you could've got a much better M3 Max for a similar price.
honestly SUPER good call when talking about the colour to compare it to an actual really dark black laptop, because before that one came into frame, my eyes actually saw it as darker than it really is. maybe thats just the camera effect, but the contrast truly amazed me when i saw the space black appear completely different when placed next to the old grey and the "control" black laptop
Does anyone know what model it was? This 'control' black laptop?
Made me very happy about purchasing my maxed out M1 Max. I thought I was crazy and that it'd be severely outdated in 2 years, but love to see I made a good purchase :)
For those who play World of Warcraft, the M3 pro avg 120 fps steady on retail. In raids with DBM and weakauras, I averaged 110 and the rare low 80 fps with settings at 7. On classic its 120 fps steady no matter what im doing. The fans stay silent, and my battery is well above 10 hrs. Just something to think about if your primary game is Wow. For FF14 its 80 fps in savages, 60 fps cities, and this is with visual mods. Hope this helps and always remember to Zug Zug.
Well you helped me finally decided on which Macbook Pro to buy. I mainly wanted a Macbook Pro for the better screen and speakers and a performance boost. So been checking out all the spec's of the new M3's and Apple it really is a strange set of config juggling they've done. So after your video I checked Apple's refurbished Mac and got a MacBook Pro 14" M1 Max with the RAM I wanted and 4 TB drive for way less than a M3. Since I mainly do music the M1 Max has all the performance I need for working with DAWs. So thanks.
You literally could have just got the pro. The max only has extra GPU cores, none of which your daw will use
For music production, in the order of importance : cpu cores ! , ram (if lots of samples, Konact librairies), fast disk (but the majority of ssds are good enough nowadays). M3 Max with 16 cores is very interesting for music production imho. Anyway, i'm glad that you've found the right computer for you :)
@@lucasjames8281 pretty sure the pro only supports 1 external monitor.
You wasted your money. He was more talking about the people who already had the old machines, and even then it was just his opinion. There is absolutely no reason to buy an old and outdated M1 Macbook Pro this late though when you can get much better M3 Macbook Pro for a similar price.
@@chiefjudge8456 you can get aftermarket / refurb Macs for much much less than a new m3
Been waiting for this review! 🙌Really appreciates honestly and M chips are too good💯 Never owned Mac so this one going to be my first Mac 🤩 Great video as always! 🔥
loved that you were rocking a Galaxy S21 Ultra for nearly two years and now you're keeping the M1 Max for so long, I think it sets a great example when even a high end tech youtuber is so responsible
Love the black/pink theme running through this video. Very deliberate and cute ❤❤
I appreciate your honesty in not trying to sugarcoat the situation. Your review was thorough and provided helpful comments. I am curious to know how your opinion would impact Apple's sales. Personally, I own a MacPro 16 M1pro and it meets all my needs and more, so I don't see any reason to upgrade anytime soon.
It's funny. Most people I know buying macbooks right now are buying M1 models. There's no point for most people to get anything better than that. Why spend 1500-2000 on something that's overkill when you can spend 500$ on a macbook air, or 600$ for an M1 Pro, which are both still entirely way too overkill for 95% of consumers?
I upgraded from a 2014 Intel MBP to a 2023 M2 MBA. It's better in every possible way. At this rate my next machine will be an M11-based MBA (in something like the new Candy Apple (Pink)). Marques will say the upgrade from an M10 machine is only moderately impressive, but for me it will be amazing.
Great vid! I agree, can't see any reason to change from my 16" M1 Pro and can't see that changing for a very long time.
Just upgraded from my 2014 MacBook Pro which was burning my thighs and not able to run software I needed for work. I now have the M3 Pro, and wow, it's amazing. I wouldn't upgrade from an M1 Max, but for people looking to buy from an older MacBook, this is an easy W.
I was really on the fence about trading in my M2 Pro 14' simply because of the space black and the small bump in specs. I watched numerous videos on the new M3 and now finally with watching your video, I realize there is no reason for me to upgrade. I would be just wasting money on a superficial upgrade. Your honesty in your videos is what has kept me a long time subscriber. Peace!
yeah your m2 pro will last you for like 10 years, it’s easy to fall into marketing even with specs when in most cases you won’t be maxing it out what you already have (which is overkill already) keep that up and it’ll save you money yearly. easier said than done but you can do it. appreciate it and just be grateful💪🏼🦍🦋
Dbrand it and choose a new wallpaper. It'll feel like a new laptop 😉
@@Mikivli True words! My previous MBP lasted me 10 years, just ignore all the hype and marketing and you're good to go ;-)
I was just about to call you a sheep before I read the rest of your comment
Your M2 Pro is outdated, sorry. He's just saying that because he has beef with Apple for some reason.
I completely agree with you. I was really looking forward to the Dynamic Island being added to the MacBook Pro lineup, as I feel that unless there is a significant redesign or a substantial upgrade in specifications over my current base model M1 Pro MacBook Pro, I won't be tempted to upgrade.
Nobody needs the dynamic island on mac 😅
brilliant video. thank you!
Nice to see you keep up with other KZhead trends like good good golf
The way he caught the phones during the sponsor spot was very impressive. I guess its all that ultimate frisbe playing that hes doing
I’m proud of you holding back upgrading. I feel like a good amount of tech ppl would upgrade bc you did but instead ppl will hold on and that is really good for the earth.
Apple doesnt giving af about the earth lol
Marques is my "go to" before buying products... His honest review is a must have before purchasing!!!
Yes, I would love to hear your thoughts on gaming for Mac. Also, I have no idea why they haven't made a matte black iMac yet. I'm not into huge gaming on a Mac but with a black iMac and a cool game (maybe in the future) why not?!
1:22 Perception of darkness depends on the surface sheen. Lower sheens look less black in high light at most angles (light is scattered by the finish). Trust me, I just got done making sheen samples for a customer- the flat sheen of the same black looks grey in sunlight compared to satin and semigloss. Until the higher sheen is viewed from that angle and makes it looks almost white.
Interesting
But it also depends on the chemistry or the surface, Aluminum is not black, so surely there is something black that was applied to the surface in anodization.
I've recently found that black chalkboard paint is the mattest of the mat blacks. You paint glossy plastic with that and it looks like black rubber!
Really impressed. By you sticking with your M1 Max. I’m inspired.
Would love to see the state of gaming on macOS with the new M3 Pro and M3 Max chips!
I think the colour looks amazing. Nice work Apple especially for using a new anodization process.
I love the color. I think if they used a new chemical process so that isn't just a coating, it likely explains why it's not going to ever be pure black and I'm all for it, that version of black is banging
Lies of P is great, really glad they released it on Mac. Completed the whole game on my M1 Pro, loved the experience. I had around 60 fps on middle settings and 1080p
I beat it on the Xbox game pass free trial
I've been running Macs for years and the bulk of my friends hate them because they are gamers. I've never been a gamer and I love Macs for video processing and the fact that they just "work". Knock on wood. Another great episode Marques!
as someone that never owned a mac and has always used a pc & gaming pc, switching to the m3 pro macbook was the best decision i made. really love it and its only my 3rd day having it. i didnt get the super maxed out option yet but this option super solid for me producing music and editing rn.
So you decided to give up on gaming? O_o
na I got a beast gaming pc for editing and gaming. plus I got a ps5. I wouldn't use Mac for gaming cause that doesn't seem to compete with a custom build pc@@alexejvornoskov6580
Would be cool to also show temperature and power consumption of those m-series ARM chips, these two factors should be extremely good. Meaning better lifespan of the hardware and faster and more eco-friendly battery
You know it’s a realistic Mac review when it’s mostly about the new color
ur the best and ur the truth brother thank you for that
It would be exciting to see a separate video on gaming on the Macs with Apple Silicon, the potential there is, and what you think Apple has to do to succeed in creating a gaming platform for high-end gaming across all of their devices
hes playing games with a trackpad he doesnt care either he just needs some video
1. Would love to see a video about gaming on Macs, maybe like before M series and now type thing but that would be great. 2. Congrats on the new shoe drop I love that its like full matte black but with reflective bits for safety that's dope.
hes playing games with a trackpad you think he cares he just needs some video
Great review
To be able to have a M3 Max would be a dream. Still on a late 2011 model and cannot upgrade past High Sierra
Would be great if you could delve into the issue of thermo throttling (as it was with the M2), and 8GB of RAM offered for a baseline "Pro" laptop, the slower memory modules built into the lower spec Macs. I think if you covered topics like these more, show the benchmarks running and some live tests it would be greater value-add than just talking about the device as if you were holding a second keynote.
There are lots of other channels for exactly that to be fair 😊
it’s his style, and a better alternative for watching the keynotes 😜
If you're going to be buying a baseline Pro machine with only 8GB or RAM, you're better off saving your money and just going for the MacBook Air. Slightly related, it's ridiculous that Apple still offers a baseline machine (ANY machine) with only 8GB of memory. They can spin it however they want about the memory efficiency and utilization of the OS. It's still entirely insufficient.
I think my last macbook pro was like 2012, mostly in the windows ecosystem now. I game on Windows, I just built a really powerful PC for editing, and I kinda want to switch my laptop to mac, would love the brighter display over the gaming laptop I've been using for work right now so I can maybe work out on the patio, but for probably $2k+ Idk it's a tough call. If the RAM/Storage upgrades weren't so expensive, I'd probably do it in a heartbeat. It's just always going to be a back-up on the go for me, and it's hard to justify that cost.
