Samsung IS working on a transparent smartphone. That much we're sure about. But I'm almost certain it will fail, for ONE reason...

There's a reason transparent displays are so popular in sci-fi, and it's not because the displays are practical: It's because they have advantages in shot framing. You can show what's on the display and the face of the actor reacting to it at the same time, or show them looking at the screen in a natural pose without the screen obstructing the view of their face. Audiences want to see the face of the actor, they want to see the emotion - and transparent displays just make that easier to shoot. The Expanse uses this to great effect.
I guess it can also show what's on the screen at the same time so if framed perfectly the audience will see the actors expression and also get to see what they are seeing to judge it themself. this is better than needing two clips cut together. A video call is best example of this. The audience can see the person in the call and the main actor at the same time. But yes being able to see the actor is the biggest reason and the rest is just extra
@@staticbuilds7613 good solutions always come with extras

I think a far better use of a transparent LED screen would be implementing it into a car's windshield. Imagine using Google Maps but you can see an arrow augmented onto the road, directing you where to go. No more guessing as to which road you need to turn onto. Or maybe a warning system that highlights a vehicle or pedestrian before they end up too close to you. No more Change Blindness effect. Or better yet, it could be used to enhance or alter surrounding color for those with Color Blindness.
They have these implemented in a far more economical way than actually having the windshield itself be an entire screen, and they're called HUDs. A windshield display is too expensive to consider for most consumer vehicles, and it's really gonna suck when it gets a crack.
Im quite sure new Audis are working on this right now
Seems like the best use would be for ar/vr
why you need a screen for that? You can use projectors for that. Or AR glasses.
BMW has something similar called Head Up Display where you can see satnav or arrow directing you also your speed and car information. A lot of modern cars has similar displays on windscreens.
There was a show called "Extant" starting Halle Berry and the tech in that show was actually really amazing.. the phones and tablets had this kind of clear thing going and you could bounce your screen from tablet to phone or even from phone to tablet to counter top to mirror to fridge lol.. I mean the way it was executed in this show was amazing. I think this will end up happening with tweaks to it's execution.

Having seen the iPhone 14 Pro, I think the idea of a transparent screen that can darken/present an image over glass where an object may sit behind it, may be the way you can hide the front facing camera. So, the rest of the phone screen would be a regular display, but for the area where the camera sits on the screen, you could have that bit go clear when on a video call/taking a selfie, and then when you don't need the front camera, the transparent screen sitting over that section of the camera could mask the camera. I'm a gadgeteer, and I've done the "Reflect the image from a tablet onto a sheet of clear plastic " and while it works, the first thing I saw was that white and yellow disappeared against the clear background. THIS resulted in the image quality dropping until I put it against a black background, which restored these colors. A clear phone will have the exact same problems.

@@AmitSingh-jj7ho it could be a switchable glass. Apparently Google has even made that in the past.
Also store windows...
You took the words out of my mouth when you talked about the Tv. Because it is a mini TV.
I'm pretty sure as the technology advances it will be able to develop options to blackout the screen from the other side for privacy mode. also options would eventually be provided to artificially make the front screen completely black while dynamically showing all other colors and pixels for what ever you are watching. The only down side I really see to such a thing is the thousands of dollars it will cost yet how fragile and prone it will be to breaking. but all the other issues about the transparancy of the screen could be easily mitigated with smart dynamic background color filters which can act as a regular blakck screen phone. and with the simple switch of the settings you can go back to transparency mode. I like it.
This is like a solution to a problem that never existed
yeah this'll just be a novelty item lol
@@randomgaming8007 Like when accelerometers became commonplace in phones and that "drinking a beer" app was funny.
There are likely some ways to find use from a transparent screen, like say heads-up-displays or having windows that turn into a screen when you want it to. The same technology could also help to filter the light that enters the home as the screens basically use liquid crystals to manipulate the light coming from the backlight. Theres no way it would be visible. If we have technology to make transparent phones we'd likely have a way to blur from the back end. Maybe they will have some sort of 'improved/different' version of 1 way glass or something of the sort.
If the front camera can track your eyes and adjust the video angle accordingly to the position where you are watching and removing bezels will create a transparent phone. Not that hard to pull off.

The augmented reality thing won't work though, a few reasons, but mainly simply because of a thing called parallax. You look through two eyes to create depth, so any image on the screen won't match with what's behind it. Also the angle you view through the screen will affect where the image is, and you eyes will need a different focus to see the screen and background.

Can't wait having to buy a case for the see through phone, effectively defeating the whole purpose
Yeah, definitely. It’s not like there’s cases which are completely transparent or anything. That would just be too crazy.
@@insert_username_here yes, it's not like they gather dust and turn yellow or anything like that? That would be crazy. Wtf Would you do. With it? Buy a phone to play AR games? Transparent phones serve no purpose at all.
@@bobuboi4643 I’m currently holding a phone with a clear case on, and it hasn’t yellowed despite being my case for 2 years. The dust problem applies to all cases, and my case definitely does have dust that collects near the camera. Also, I’m by no means defending transparent phones, I agree with you in that they’re rather useless.
Clear case
Does not defeat the purpose, just buy a matching see through case lol. I'm sure that problem will be solved too. See through cases already exist btw but they will just improve it so it is not obvious there is a case.
Imagine you’ve got a pair of AR glasses on, you’re relaxing at home, and all of a sudden a boss battle health bar appears in the corner of your eye
Ok time to start getting loot, he gonna spawn at anytime
hey guys come over to me theres a mega charizard in my bathroom
AR glasses, but we gotta start making clothes Bluetooth compatible so that way when shit happens we can get a little feedback but without all the gear.
Now imagine, you’re sitting on your bed with your shades listening to music (through them)... you get a notif for a raid from your voice assistant, and boom. Your bedsheets, and clothes that you’re wearing start to subtly vibrate, then the boss appears in the corner of your room lol
Worse... You start to hear doom music.
Yes but the trans displays are so inflected by external light. Idk how they wanna fix it Maybe with an second Display on the Back making black Pixels where are Pixels on the front
