The powder they use is either chalk powder or talcum powder or some rare occasions they use boric acid powder
These are used to act as lubricant between tube and tyre. As there is a lot of heat generating through friction between road and tyre, this heat is captured in the tyre and is conducted to the tube. If powder is not used there are chances of tubes and tyres getting stuck to each other due to immense heat.

  • Just amazing, hard working young man. I use to work in tire shop for heavy equipment back in day. So glad they don’t have split rims anymore. Very dangerous. Kudos to this real tire mechanic

    • The loader tire the kid was airing up at the end is called a widowmaker for a reason that ring can come off of there at Mach 3 and kill everyone in its path. Yes it would have been a good job had they not put the kid on the airline at the end or better yet put the tire in a cage before they air it up

  • I missed being a tireman for commercial companies that I had worked. I loved it because it was work out. My service truck was bright yellow w/build-in air compressor underneath. Also it had a crane for big jobs. I called it “big bird”.😂

    • @@PremSingh-vl8pf laws are there but hardly followed specially in rural or remote places that said they can be arrested if somebody complains. But again its the parents fault who send these kids to work/learn the trade due to poverty.

  • Amazing work guys working with what you have👏however, please do not have anyone or in this case kids standing in front of a tyre while inflating! A catastrophic event can occur within a blink of an eye if there was an overlooked fitment error or component defect. if you didn't know this event is highly likely to be fatal so please keep that in mind & look out for each other🙌

  • Still do split rims, on my dump truck. Some years, 3 or 4 times. Chain the rings down when airing up, check, and proceed carefully.

    • Change them to tubeless...4 used Dayton 22.5x8.25 rims...4 used 11r22.5 tires or 4 new whichever...at least now your tubeless and radial and in the 21st century with a way more common tire lolol

  • This guy showing up at 9:10 probably had a small mishap the previous day and got his head wrapped up at the companies first aid boot. Those rings on the rims can be real nasty If they decide to fly off..... Where I work, we have a special cage to inflate those tyres safely. In this clip we see a young boy in charge of the job standing in front of the before mentioned widow maker. He has no clue he is in danger and that in fact is a bit sad.

  • God forbid if of of the rings let go while putting air in that split rim wheel. The pressure and force is enough to cut the kid in half. We have to use a cage when we do things like that, even out of the shop too.

    • My friends dad died while filling a tire for a dump truck back in the eighties. He had the tire laying down while he was standing on the rim when it blew and threw him god knows how long. Broken neck and brain hemorrhage, could not be saved. So yeah the kid would be blown in to a different universe if that tire went boom.

  • I'm a contractor. So we did buy safety gears like, hard hats, steel toe boots, safety jackets and pants, gloves and even facial masks which is required by the law anyway, it's also included in the program of works (POW). But when I visited the construction site one day. I've noticed that most of them are not using the gears, instead they wear flip flaps, baseball hats, T-shirts and bear handedly doing things. Expect for some skilled workers ( who's working on sheded area) the Foreman who's wearing the hard hat only. So I ask him why. The Foreman answered me with a smile and said, "Sir, this is a tropical country and very hot all day, our men will die easily with those gears on."

  • I wonder how many have hurt or worst by the lock rings on that tire? I know of a few truck tire guys that were killed by the rings blowing off before they put the safety set up out for use.
