  • I'd say 80% of the issues of getting the tires beaded was because they were so cold, if they had set out the sun in the summer they probably pop right on. Next time instead of the ratchet straps, which I use all the time when mounting smaller tires, maybe try a ratcheting chain binder to get a lot of pressure on it. Love the videos. Keep up the good work Andrew.

    @agentjwa@agentjwa Жыл бұрын
    • You can’t really use ratchet binder on a job like that because it bends the screws. A chain puller on the other hand would probably be fine.

Anyone else in their 50's or 60's watch his videos and wonder how Andrew's body is going to feel when he's in his 50's due to all that hard, physical labor he's doing today. It's crazy how we can wear out our bodies in our youth and not realize it. We then pay for it when we reach our 50's. You see pro athletes in their early to mid 30's still in good shape playing their sport. Then you see them 20 years later when they reach their mid 50's and they walk like they are crippled. The joys of aging! Andrew, you should consider throwing out those undersized 16 or 18 gauge extension cords you're using. Then go pick up some 100' 10 gauge extension cords so your don't burn up anymore of those amp thirsty power tools like that sawzall.

  • I have changed a whale of a lot of tires. The first tire you took off, you needed to loosen the backside before trying to remove (the bead should also be well above where it seats, so you may have to prop up the back side a little with some small bricks close to the rim, to keep it loose) and put grease on the bead and just beyond the bead on the inside, the tools were correct. The second one, you got the backside loose but gave up fast and just used the saw, but it probably would have come off with a bit of grease or dish soap. Getting some air sucked out of the innertube might have helped a little as well. When they get filled with water, that is real hell. I assume that happens when someone takes the valve core out when it is underwater. I just get the aftermath. Sometimes clowns glue the tires to the rims. When the boss wants to sell the glued tire used, that is incredibly difficult to get loose intact. To put air in the new ones one you need to set 2 other tires with air in them about a foot apart on the ground, maybe a little further. Then you set the tire you are trying to fill straddling them, like a bridge. It should not reach the ground. Then you put pressure on top of it for a third point. Any of your tractor shovels would work great pushing down on the top (and it still should not reach the ground). Then just fill, with the valve core out. Put back in when it is sealed and the tire has moved to the correct seating position on the rim. Those dang straps rarely work because at the same time they bring the outside toward the center they also pull the sides in.

  • I’m sure someone else has mentioned it but it would be smart to put some roll over protection on that packer. Normal use for a packer is on relatively flat surfaces but this mountain trail of yours is steep. I know of one person through my work, (I work in safety and have been around heavy industry all my working life) that died in a roll over while operating a packer. Drove it down into a steep ditch and it rolled on top of him. Just something to consider. Especially with how it got stuck on the way up and really could have got wrong quick. Good luck and thanks for the great content!

  • Back in the 70's I was enrolled in an automotive repair class at the Vocational School. When airing up a new tire on a rim we had a handy air hose gadget for help setting the bead on the rim. It was an adjustable woven nylon tube with an air hose fitting attached. The tube was cinched around the outer diameter of the tire and when the tube was inflated it constricted the tire causing the bead to expand (just like your rope around the tire). It worked very easily but I don't know if they are still available.
