I'm a mechanic at a Polaris dealer. The only issues we have had is recalls. Usually a quick 30 minute turn around. If people bring them in for service as should any mechanical vehicle of any kind. We never have to fix or replace anything. And that's good for us and them. We love a simple oil change and tire check but some people just don't take care of things.
You can tell he’s making shit up in this video. I have several customers with slingshots with very few if any issues.
@jwkaman Hey man, I’ve been debating getting a slingshot for a while & since you have worked as a mechanic at the dealer I think you would be the best man to answer this question. Are the manuals more reliable than the automatics? Ive heard that slingshots weren’t made to be automatic so that would cause issues. Is this true? I’d much rather purchase an automatic due to where I live and traffic but I would go manual if its more worth it in terms of reliability.
@@Angel-EDR the automatic trans on the slingshot is nothing more than a manual with a computer shifting it for you.
Where are you located
U said it best they don't build anything like they use to these kids today can't cook clean nothing I got Wii kids I know ur pain bro! Thanks for ur feed back an honesty😎
Waste of time watching this negative video. I have had a Slingshot for 3+ years now and have had no problems. Yes there was a recall (no different than any car made anymore) and was resolved quick. Modding this is a blast and the comment about the windshield is false. I have had a rock hit my windscreen at 65 MPH and it stopped it and prevented it from hitting me. Yes it cracked it, but it did not break. Do your own research but there and many thousands who own these and love them.
Yup same here. Had mine since 2016 and never had an issue. On top of that I Did a lot of mods as well and I couldn’t be happier till this day
This same garbage is being done on line to the Canam Spyder. Making false claims. Had my Spyder 5 years no problems.
I agree. This video reminds me of whiner. Boo freakin hoo. The purpose is to enjoy the open road and feel the wind. This was a cry baby review.
Facts bro 💯
Same here this video is a load of crap! Ive had mine for 3 years now and not one problem
We’ve had ours since 2015. Made 4K trips from north LA to Canada back down the east coast. Not a single issue. Ever! Plan on buying a newer one soon! Love the slingshot!
How many miles those it have?
@@sneakerhead140 between 25-30k.
Are you selling?
I just bought the 2023 Roush edition and I love it. I actually upgraded from a 2016 r edition. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ hope to meet up someday ❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾
thanks for sharing your thoughts , it helps me to decide if i m buying one or not
42k miles and no Issues. This review misses all the great things. I'm keeping mine.
I have a Can-Am F3-S. That's a good one, too.
Had mine for a year. Absolutely love the vehicle. Use it as daily ride. True, doesn't handle slippery conditions well, but does handle them better than most other motorcycles. I've modified mine, and will do so even more, only issue is that wherever I go people want to take pictures of it or ask questions. Not really a problem.
The main issue is the price. If you want a motorcycle, you could get a couple. If you want something car-like, then get a much safer and more practical MX5 for about the same cost. If money is no object, then a BMW Z5
Lamest Slingshot review I’ve watched. Save your time. The points this guy tries to make are not points at all especially if you know the vehicle or have driven it.
Bought mine for 13k and been fucking loving it for the past 5 years
I'm interested in buying one would you mind If I ask what year is yours?
@@wtfnews7300 2015
I don’t have a Slingshot and I haven’t driven one (yet), but I’m researching them and thinking about buying one. I didn’t watch this entire video as it seemed to be nothing more than petty complaints and personal opinions. I came for real specs and left when the dude started complaining about having to continually adjust because of the seatbelt touching his neck.
Buy one and enjoy.
My 2023 SL has been in the shop for 4 of the 6 months I have owned it. It is still in the shop awaiting to have the entire wiring harness replaced after numerous pseudo break and turn signal failures. $1700.00 harness and 24 hours of labor. We have asked Polaris to replace it.
All silly complaints, especially the airbag bs. If you're worried about safety standards you ain't buying a souped up go-cart. No AC.. Ok?! The slingshot isn't designed to be a daily driver.
The things mentioned in here are not any concerns for me, love it. Also its classed as a motorcycle, insurance and DMV for licensing so no seatbelts are required as none for a motorcycle. Also mine came with a backup camera that is factory. All good here!
Facts...this guy
I looked that up.. I'm in Florida and I was told I only need a regular driver's license. Motorcycle license not needed..
In the state of Georgia it is classified as an auto cycle you only need a driver license now if it's a can am ryker then you would need a motorcycle license in the state of Georgia
My husband and I have had our 2019 SLR for more then a year now and have approx. 5,000 miles on it and have an literally ZERO of these problems.
My name is Mike from North Carolina. I have had all recall issues addressed with complete satisfaction. I've owned my Slingshot since July 30th 2016. My only personal issues are with all of the torques head cap bolts. On mine I had a good number of the heads strip mostly due to the use of Thread lock compound and "Over Tightened" during assembly. BTW It should also be worth noting that the Sideview mirrors must have the convex upgrade. They also have the propensity to loosen over time, and won't hold the views. Polaris really needs to address these issues on future models. With that said, I ring-it-out on every mild ! Oh one more thing, here in North Carolina wheels and tires are swapped out quite frequently. Thanks for letting me give my 2cents worth.
My 2019 slingshot has the Rockford fosgate sound system and is just amazing.
When u rate a car, try rate it on its price and whats it was created for. Don’t compare it to like a Bugatti Chiron (don’t rate it for what its not.)
I too, am a mechanic at a Polaris dealership, and even though we don't carry the slingshot line, these are of course, machines. Any machine should be checked over, technically before every long distance drive/ ride, or monthly. Check ur oil at every fillup?
All the complaints about this vehicle are not really that bad. First world issues. A range rover has a lot more issues. Usually a slingshot is a secondary vehicle as well. Sound system isn't too bad either when you drive them
These "complaints" are by and large silly and one guy's opinion. What did he expect when he bought it? It would like buying a radio and complaining because the picture wasn't clear. By the way, he mixes several videos into one montage making it seem the "problems" are universal. I bought a used 2015 18 months ago and my only complaint is I don't get to drive it enough. Especially silly is the complaint about taking off. How do you say "I'm not that good of a driver' without saying 'I'm not that good of a driver?" OK rookie, here is a tip, till you learn how to drive a manual transmission, take off in second gear instead of first. Once you have mastered the art of left/right foot coordination, you can go back to first gear like a grown up.
This owner (former owner) of a Polaris Slingshot doesn’t sound like he enjoyed his owner experience. The Slingshot is unpretentious and Polaris offers no apology for how it is engineered. There is no perfect vehicle for everyone. The Slingshot is not a perfect vehicle and it is sold as such, just like those expensive exotic cars are. They all have quirks, faults, recalls and handling characteristics that must be taken into account. Within two days after I purchased my SS, I was on a 10,000 mile cross country trip. I had absolutely no problems with the machine. Certainly none of what was highlighted in this video. The vehicle is neither a car, nor a motorcycle. Don’t expect it to be either one of those. It is exactly what it appears to be, a three wheeled, very powerful, very agile two passenger fun machine. It doesnt come with air conditioning, or a heater, or a full length windshield, or left pull seatbelts, or doors, or yatta yatta yatta…. Next time look at what you buy and understand what you spend your money on. It isn’t like you didn’t know….. oh, and by the way, you can buy after-market tires wheels and mirrors, tops, windshields, doors and all that… but then why dont you just buy a Miata or other small car to begin with? You should really seperate your petty opinions from facts.
not a fan of the slingshot but i enjoy the concept of an open car / more open than a convertible. but i feel the reasons mentioned in why to hate it were kinda lousy excuses, The reasons to hate on it is the cost per performance. At that price youre better off building a kit car that gives the same open feel of a motorcycle but in a car df goblin , Exocet , Lotus s7, sve rocket something like these and they can all be done by someone with entry level mechanical knowledge. The seat belt is a very odd reason maybe its weird but you have your selt belt on the right side when passenger anyways and if its in your neck youd have the same issue in most cars anyways Reliability may have some issues but the 2.4 is a fairly good engine as for brakes who knows the radio is perfectly fine and youre better off going aftermarket if you want better exhaust tires radio seats are usually things owners want to change anyways The real issue is the cost there is more fun options for cheaper and faster but still give the same experience the slingshot gives
Yup this guy sounds like he's related to a Karen. I got my 22 s 3 months ago and got over 4k miles on it. It's my daily driver rain or shine it's a motorcycle and I'm not a fair weather driver. Hot , cold or whatever if you have the right gear you'll be fine. You guys probably seen my video about owning a slingshot in Oregon.
Not a motorcycle bruh lol especially in the motorcycle world
Do you need a motorcycle license to drive it
@@redhook1960 not in Oregon but you need to wear a helmet.
Every vehicle/manufacturer has some issues, how ever these are few and far between. I have owned one of these for several years and absoulty love it! It is a totally drivers' focused vehicle. This is not a daily driver, nor is it intended to be. You enjoy this drive in the same weather as you would a motorcycle. These things are a total blast. You can smoke the rear tire for days if you like or just cruise along and enjoy the weather. It is the easiest stick to drive and a great vehicle to learn if you have never driven one. If you are considering one, just get it! You will be extremely happy with this amazing open air experence!
And also, the speaker who himself referres to the slingshot as a motorcycle, ends his video by stating "they aren't even crash tested like any real car", so fail on his part.
The slingshot is a heck of a lot safer than a motorcycle. The slingshot is a fun recreational vehicle and I'm sure a few Corvette C8's could have the same amount of issues.
Ours is a 2016 model. We got it with 5k miles. Did have a problem with a dash brake light. This was covered by warrantee. It now has 17k miles on it. Last week we drove from St. Louis, Mo to Columbus Oh. No probs we love it. We don’t care for the seatbelts on your neck. When we got it the hood was Unbelivable to open. The dealer was no help. We installed the Slingmod hood hinge kit and that solved the problem. My wife drives it the most and loves it. The clutch prob he mentions is nonexistent it has perhaps the smoothest clutch I have ever used.
Baught mine new, got 21K on it. I think the bearings issue isn't what you think. Worn tires, belt traking is maybe what you're referring to, the squeak. Hubs I believe are sealed. I put red line in my gearbox and drive. Also helps to flash the computer. The factory settings suck. Gained some mpg, smoother shifts, more responsive. Wish I'd done it sooner. Feels better now than ever. The slingshot, Its not for some people. You are exposed to the elements. I feel safer in this than any motorbike I've owned. Ever try swerving on 2 wheels? Anyway, that's how we evolve by making something and someone else making it better. I personally love it.
BS. I love mine tremendously. Got a second one for the old lady. All these issues he is stating is not a problem. I've had no issues at all. 23712 miles.
Yes it's worth the risk it's a blast driving it I put a full windshield and convertible top and heated and cooling seats makes it a dream to drive. I have 3000 miles on mine never had break issues or clunky shifting problems the rear tire has never broken traction even on wet roads. I understand some have problems but the dealership will make it right.
I bought my 2015 drove it from the Midwest to Florida only problem I’ve had is some one hit me. Replaced tires.
I respectfully disagree. I love mine and now my wife loves hers now too... Many of the issues referenced have been resolved since 2020 if not earlier. I have/love both engine types. TBH it seems more like petty issues. I could do the same video for any car maker. My opinion is what it is. I recommend purchasing slingshots. Make it your own!
Out of all the things you mentioned that were probably operator error, the biggest that stood out to me are the windshield height. You are supposed to look over, not through, a motorcycle windshield.
Then why is there a wait to get one? Make it make sense
I will 1000% get one by May.
What you get?
It's June what did you get????
I can dig the vehicle looks extremely cool Im all for new toys but, it’s not for me sit way to low for my liking I do enjoy my Polaris RZR Pro XP tho 😁🤙
Paid for by Can-Am
Its a wheel. Not a rim. 🤦🏼♂️
Love my 2020 R manual. So far 200 hrs. Daily car 0 issues speakers are fantastic. Just caution when wet.
I've had mine for a month. The oil change is easy. Did my own service and inspection. The dealership in concord nc where i live, charges $836.00 for a service, oul change and inspection. For you non - mechanical aptitude riders, learn th DYI, by going to you-tube tutorial instructions, and save yourself some dollars. I'm truly enjoying my new slingshot and so is my wife.
😅😂 My slingshot SL been legit since 2015 It’s my daily drive . No problems at all.
I think your review it bogus, all the problems you mentioned have never happened to mine after 10,000 miles or any of my friends. I just put my order in for my 2023. just like a motorcycle check all lugs tire pressure fluids and break pads no problem for less then $300 I replaced all rotors and pads to ZZ Performance High Performance Slotted Rotors with amazing stopping power easy installation great price providing a linear friction profile that allows your vehicle's ABS system to operate most effectively.
I love it my girl just got one. I’m so happy for her is amazing toy love it go slingshot 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sounds Fun... You guys be safe 👍
It’s a cult vehicle. Some will love it, the rest will avoid it. The new ones seem to have fewer bugs which is normal. Takes a few years to beat things into better reliability. It’s not for me but hey folks can buy what they want. I’m turned off by the price. 24 grand buys a real nice small used truck. That suits me better in the cold north for a second vehicle.
Come on man. 😂 It's like you bought the slingshot only to realize it's not a luxury car with AC and leather. Lol
So it seems your biggest issues are that: - it's not a car - you've heard things about it - it requires occasional maintenance (ie, lubrication) - cosmetic complaints ?
Hey you would definitely hate my 4 seater slingshot then. But nothing is stock . Still seems like you would find something to complain about
I have one 2022R and it's gorgeous beautiful I love it and yeah the girls love it too
Hey, you should be a critic on something like food, because you definitely had no valid points on this vehicle.
Seems to be a lot of nit-picking. Also in the segment you mention the seatbelt coming from the right side, a quick clip in the video shows it over your (or some driver's) left shoulder.
At $40K Plus, the Slingshot is out of my League!
Ur incorrect on not being able to upgrade the wheels. I own 2, one from 2016, other is 2022 LS. Both have upgraded wheels and better tiers.
To all you Slingshot owners. Good luck in an accident with this death trap.
Wow...this guy is complaining over nothing lol. Just enjoy it. I have no problems. I'm just saying. I drove one of these cross country over 2000 miles round trip with no issues
Most of everything you said about the Polaris slingshot is false, I love my slingshot and have no issues whatsoever .
I agree why did this guy make such a terrible video
Can you do reason to buy seem to be really a harsh review
kzhead.info/sun/fc9rZN2kgF-koYk/bejne.html
There's no roof or walls or anything stopping the wind from hitting ur face. Y would u need an AC?
You really have NO CLUE what you're talking about. IT's NOT a car. It was never meant to be enclosed - which means you are always in the elements. Can't upgrade the rims? lol really? 99% of Slingshot's don't come with speakers behind your head (those are aftermarket). The sound system is ok, nothing special, and is upgradable. Most of the other complaints are about the different recalls that have come out - surprise! All vehicles on the road have recalls. You are also giving your personal opinion on said recalls about why/how which is mostly false - you should leave the language of the recall to the experts (aka the company). The #1 thing that fails are "the bearings"?! lol Which ones? There has never been a recall related to any bearings. Again, you've cherry picked a select few owners out of 10's of thousands that have had an issue. You keep talking about how dangerous this vehicle is (windshield too low?!, only one rear tire in the back, not very stable vehicle, etc). Obviously you don't own one or don't want other people to own one - that's your opinion. This video actually serves no purpose other than to bitch about a vehicle you have no clue about. The things said in this video (plus all the unapproved usage of video clips, video with bicycles in it ?!, videos of cars...) it's a wonder how this channel has any followers at all... I'm pretty confident that all Slingshot owners are happy to not have you as an owner and/or be involved in the community. ---- as a respected member of the Sling community and someone that has infinitely more knowledge about them than you...good luck spending your time talking trash about whatever vehicle you have picked out next.
Were you not loved as a child?
I eagerly await your "Why the Apple iPhone 14 Sucks" video. lol
You can upgrade the wheels up to 24 inch
Never had any of these issues.🤔
the break issue is a non issue..its just a sensor
This man likes to eat his cereal without milk. You can tell 😂
I hate when Prius drivers review bad azz machines!!! We've had ours for 4 years, NO PROBLEMS! We just enjoy taking a cruise in it. No donuts, no dumb sh1t.....
I purchased one today.
Much of your info is outdated. My '21R is in one word awesome! If you don't own one, you really can't judge fairly.
This guy has no idea about anything. Owned mine for 2 years with no problems. Oh, btw, your brake alarm light came on most likely because it doesn't like it when you apply the breaks and gas at the same time.
Own a 2017 bought new, 36k miles, no issues. Only recalls.
I want to know maybe two things about this
Buy one if you’re an urban youth and enjoy spending your food stamp traded for cash on one of these
Apteras are coming! What do you think

Love my 2023 SLR!!!! Ignore this HATER!!!! Very uneducated
Why is the guy working on a bicycle in this video? 6:39mm.
I'd hate to hear what you would say about a motorcycle. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen
I love all the complaints are because its technically a motorcycle I mean if I lose my rear wheel on my Harley probably will have a worse time than if I were in a Slingshot. My God no AC either........ Millennials
Most of this video is about personal preference and hate towards the vehicle for being 3 wheeled. After 'research" a guy on the internet had a problem. Hmmm seem to me to be a click bait vid. Come on fast lane your better than this.
Who said u can’t upgrade your tires I have upgrade to 20s and they look good

@@FASTLANETV14 what kind of response is 🔥? Wow! Your vocabulary is amazing!
What an absolutely irresponsible review. Complaining about the seatbelt being over the right shoulder? Where is it when youre a passenger in a car? Absolutely atrocious and irresponsible, intentionally negative review of a vehicle umpteen thousands of people love. Dont like it, move on. Have had my 16SL for less than a year and have already put about 8 to 9k miles on it. Best of all, the Slingshot community is more welcoming than any prissy ass high end car owner or club would be. These are fun vehicles.
I'm on my second slingshot. That's why I didn't watch your video.
You talking about lil silly shytt seems like You have a personal issue with it
I can think of 30k reasons why
I had a Polaris Slingshot R model. I hated the brakes, to mushy, the universal joints are clunking all the time. I had the auto drive and the way it down shifted, and it was really noisy in the rear end. My brake light warning light came on and off alot. I had it for 11 months and sold it. Oh forgot to tell you, it is very hot on the passenger side because the muffler is mounted in front of the passenger bay.
I got aftermarket brakes that made a huge difference. I did a lot of aftermarket now it’s going on 4 years and it’s amazing
Not a motorcycle. Trike maybe if that
SO what happen why don’t you really like it
Kids can only use a phone or view games
Well u don't like anything don't get one I don't have a problem with my 2023 it runs fine brand new off the floor dream come true thanks United motor sports Lexington Kentucky thanks Donnie knulls!!😎
Well for the price of the R, you can get a base Miata. Problem solved
If you to buy a car go get one.

Yeah this guy is bunging out because I have one and I don't have nothing crazy. Maybe he works for a company that was meant to not promote slingshots
To me h*** no My girlfriend wants Buy one I ride and race 2 wheel motors
Terrible review except the seatbelt and stereo
You keep calling these things motorcycles. They're as much a motorcycle as a car with the doors removed.
The number 1 reason is they're a joke, if you're to old to ride a motorcycle go sit on the porch.
👆
How are you going to complain that an open air vehicle doesn’t have air conditioning… Some points are fair but it definitely sounds like he definitely went out of his way looking for bad things to say about the vehicle and has very little experience with said issues himself. And some issues are just part of the vehicle and on an issue if you’re not looking for this type of ride. I.e the wind screen being low, power going to the back wheel only, and not being crash tested, the are all issues that can be the said of motorcycles. If you want a car go buy a car…smh
Bullshit. A one word description for this video.
Motorcycles are just as deadly as a car especially a driver driving with overconfidence. My slingshot is wayyyyy more safer than ANY motorcycle. I had a motorcycle and believe me, people see me on this machine. Motorcycles not so much, in fact the whole reason I got this is because of inattentive drivers not paying attention to the road. Its probably saved me knowing that every time I put the key in the ignition. The comfort level is better too. Ever ride a motorcycle 300 miles and get a backache. I have. As far as issues, all vehicles with 2, 3, or 4 wheels have them. Its how you make it better and educate yourself on simple fixes, do it yourself. I got 18K on mine fyi. I can live with some flaws made better, sorry you cant.
Just get into a Prius that’s where you seem to belong
You sound like not a motorcycle rider..
