Over the past couple years, I've rented a Corvette Z06, Carrera 4s, Jags, Model S Plaid etc... The Slingshot is more "fun" than any of them.
One acquaintance of mine (RIP) had one that he would road trip all over the US from AZ. Another friend of mine had an older Slingshot that was heavily modified. It had a Buick engine with side pipes, massive ski boat sound system and a wicked cool raked canopy to keep from getting sunburned. I'd share a picture of it but YT doesn't like that. He 'built' it as a memorial to his daughter who was killed by a drunk driver coming back to KS from a concert in OK. It was beautiful.
Before I even watch this video these things are awesome. I've rented a few while in Florida the SL and the R models with a manual and they're just pure fun and enjoyment. Don't let anyone tell you different. Anyways now I will watch the video lol..
I use mine as a daily driver between the months of April through November.. maybe December while the weather allows it. Mi e is a 2015 model. Slightly modified with a roof, exhaust and Slightly softer suspension.. I love it and I feel sad on rainy days.
The Slingshot gets way more attention than any luxury car on the road..Facts!
If someone asks why you didn't get a Miata instead, just smack them. This is awesome.
I love my slingshot! I bought it six months ago and wish I could drive it more than I do. I have a winding road along the river that I frequent at night under the stars. I do have to remember that I'm on a road with road rules.
Finally somebody gets it. Thank you Nathan
Nice! Now please do a Vanderhall. (P.S. back in the 1980s I owned a Trihawk as my daily driver. Superficially similar to the Slingshot, though with front wheel drive. When California changed the helmet laws, however, it took the fun out of it for me. I wish they had made a loophole for such vehicles.)
Have you guys reviewed a Vanderhall product yet?
If there is an object in the road, the 3 wheel design means you can't straddle it.
You can, it just won't be as good of an idea
Thanks for laying a video point🎉
but if there's an ibeam laying across a large gap in the road, you can just wheelie over it
😂wrong. Its just another toy to enjoy when you dont wanna straddle
🚙
Love the colors on that thing!! But I’d take a regular two wheeler motorcycle or a RZR side by side. But you’re right it’s all about just having fun!
Good information video.
Interesting timing on this review. Was just discussing this product with my father.(probably on the day this was filmed) It is hard to fit it into a category of .. what would I use it for? Would I drive it like a convertible? Or a motorcycle? A motorcycle leaves you completely at the mercy of.. going from point A to B with little to no storage. And zero confidence of leaving it anywhere. Especially if you have saddle bags and are hoping you parked in a good area. Where as a convertible, you have a little more security. Can close up the top and store some things out of sight. Pick up some products and so on. Then you have the price for this thing that does not wrap around your head as.. what experience am I buying this for? lol It is in essence, a reverse 3 wheel street legal go cart. So you go visit a friend. Go buzz around town. Maybe an errand to a convenience store and bring home a bottle of water. lol (which sometimes is more than you can carry on a motorcycle)All that being said, how come TFL never bought 1 of these things for a long term review? 🤔
It’s for fun maybe you should try it
It's great when for coastal exploring near a body of water such as an ocean/beaches
Happy Tuesday Everyone ✌️ have a good day...
They need a TFL aviation channel That Yak 50 and 52 were sharp. And what ever that odd ball little rebuilt reliant robin of a three wheeler was you can just leave it behind.
On my bucket list to own.
Had one of these behind me yesterday, I don't know if it was a stock stereo or aftermarket but it was loud sounded like the music was inside my car
You should of done your test in Myrtle Beach SC , we have quite a few of these here , glad you did a review because I’m thinking of purchasing one.
Only downside is maintenance for oil change, and back tire is easy to burn. Also the material is not tough. It’d be nice if they partner with someone else for that
You should try a Campagna T-rex
We have!
You get a Miata when you're looking for a car, this is not a car and should not be compared to one. The Slingshot is a driver's focused vehicle that is a ton of fun to drive and dive into curves with. The handling is amazing, and yes you can smoke the rear tires for days! If a car is what your looking for than get a Miata if a thrill is what your looking for than the Slingshot is the ticket.
I think for fun and daily use the arcimoto FUV it's more suitable
I think these are to short in length and that along with the single tire just make it want to over steer once you hit the limit and because its so short your not gonna be able to catch it an drift it itll spin around to fast.
Didn't see any video of you getting in and out of the Slingshot???
I loved the Campagna T-Rex, but it is not as easily obtainable.
For a few more dollars soon the Aptera will be produced, engineered to be the most efficient vehicle ever produced. Also, a three-wheel reverse trike wide stance, however with in wheel motors, and solar to charge batteries. Torque vectoring 0-60 time of 4 seconds (with the three-wheel drive model) a little bit futuristic looking, with a body of carbon fiber, making almost as light as the Polaris Slingshot. Fully enclosed, and will be crash tested, even though that is not a requirement for autocycles. The suspension has been designed for cruising on the interstate, but potholes are everywhere in the northern areas. I believe that the Aptera will be even more fun, and less risky. Cheaper to drive than anything else by a factor of several fold. I currently drive a Prius, gets 55/57 if driven reasonably, the Aptera should get around 335 MPGe (testing validation yet to come) higher in the two-wheel motor version, so, a factor of maybe 6 times more efficient than a Prius. Should be on the road within a year, as the factory has now been set up, also in a very efficient oriented way. Assembly plant is unlike others, as the bodies will be delivered from Italy, 12 stations to put it together, in about 2 hours and bingo an Aptera should be easy to put together. No production hell, if the supply chain works.
But it's electric 🤮
I wish they didn’t cost so much, they look very fun to drive.😎
They are mad cheap for a vehical
@@AlexFromnic(laughs in Miata)
A lot of shade from people who have never even sat in one... The Slingshot is a blast to drive. It's wide. It costs Harley money. Did I mention it's a blast to drive? This toy is not for everyone, but it is a cool toy!
But at least you'd own a Harley.
What's the gas mileage for these?
California should only mandate a helmet for passengers under the age of 18. If you're an adult, you should be free to decide for yourself what risks you're willing to take. Why do people live in a state that treats you like children? Millions of residents have already said "enough", packed their bags, and left.
That or Caterham 7?
Love these but they have become too damn expensive! 🤦♂️
I drove a 2020 Slingshot once for half an hour through town and on back highways and didn't care for it. It was fast in a straight line, but to me felt compromised in most other ways. I really, really didn't care for the transmission. I would have preferred a true manual with a clutch. I assumed at the time they would update the programming, but it sounds like my biggest complaints about the shifting at slow speeds are still there.
Too bad you did not get a flight in the CJ-6A. That's real flying and aerobatic.... 🙃
cool first gens are around 15k used
I fly paramotors. Once you add a Tury fast, your GS will be the equivalent of airspeed 😂
They are hard to get in and out of, at least when you are older.
Airbags?
Nope. Not required.
I can’t help but say if it had 4 wheels I would like it. Then it would be a proper handling open air go kart type of a car, just like an Ariel Atom.
Unfortunately, the way government regulations are written it couldn't be built if it had 4 wheels. With 3 wheels they only have to meet motorcycle requirements.
@@1guyin10 I see now, so the priority of Polaris was mostly to make it classify as a motorcycle because that has its own set of benefits. Very interesting. I’d still rather lose the benefits of having a motorcycle registration to have something like a car, such as the Ariel Atom. Physics would prefer a car had 4 wheels when going fast around a corner.
There is a company that sells a bolt on wheel conversion but it's like $10 grand
@@darionakins9064 wow! Super curious to learn more about that. Can’t picture what that would look like.
⚡
I wish these had 4 wheels! It would look even cooler with 4 wheels and they wouldn’t have to classify it as a motorcycle. Then you can ditch the helmets everywhere and a motorcycle license wouldn’t be needed. Just my thoughts….
Just put a conversion kit on it. The factory will never do it due to the regulations.
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 Thanks for that information! Greatly appreciated.
Seems like a 3 wheel dune buggy, or putting a motorcycle engine in a childs pedal cal.
Guess they don’t make open face helmets in California
it's a Gnat mobile ! Swat it .
your first thing that you screwed up is that you have an automatic and not the six speed manual they are two different animals and
Sad when this makes more power than GM's new "affordable" SUVs truly a shame. Awesome video and awesome vehicle.
Do whatever it takes to put a fourth wheel on there
I found the slingshot severely underpowered.
The Slingshot is begging for a EV version with 3 axial flux drive wheels for big improvements across the board! CID PV film embedded in the body surface for charging assist. Come on Polaris...tighten up!!
Lol....."EV" 😂😂😂
E V these nuts
Dismissing wearing a helmet like that’s some gov overreach. The wannabe Batman trike literally looks like it’s built to decapitate you.
Need to be faster to be cool. I have a CanAm ryker which I love. The slingshot, looks AWESOME, but too in the middle of being a car and a motorcycle therefore doesn’t do either great.
I've had some of the best time in a slingshot thru the hill country of Texas
As a motorcycle rider/casual car enthusiast, why on Earth would anyone buy a Slingshot instead of an S2000 for same price range? This year I bought my stock, clean title 2007 S2K with 38,500 miles for $33,000. Higher miles sell for
Slingshot turns more heads than a Miata or a standard motorcycle. Stands out.
Have driven more Polaris products than anyone.. 200.000 miles on just different Indians, 100.000 miles on Victorys, Atv, Utv… Except from Victory I will say it’s bad quality… Like when we received the first Indian Roadmaster with touchscreen. Polaris forgot to take off more than 100 stickers that said: Made in China😆😆😆😆
I can’t believe Polaris was able to get this classified as a 3 wheel motorcycle. It has a seat, a brake pedal, a gas pedal and a steering wheel. It is not a motorcycle. Morgan built a 3 wheeled CAR years ago. Looks pretty similar to me. If you want a 3 wheeled motorcycle get a Harley or Can-Am.
Its an autocycle, it straddles the line between car and motorcycle, when it comes to the law anyway. I have a 2015, and its a gokart for the street, nothing motorcycle-ish about it. But.. if it had 4 wheels, it would have to comply with safety regulations automatically adding a lot of weight, so this is kind of a loophole, and im thankful for it. It very easy to break traction with the rear wheel but its very progressive, there is no snap oversteer. Its very easy to have a lot of fun on the street without feeling like its trying to kill you, the thing is very capable in the twisties.
Three wheeled Morgans are classed as motorcycles.
LS swap! 😂
I’m get me one real soon
The Miata is only in manual. I can’t stand driving manual where I live. Too much traffic. I want to just cruise.
Never seen someone wear a helmet driving these things in florida
Sucks how slow you drove it while trying to talk performance! Kind of pointless! You didn’t even take a corner.
Bro get a half helmet. The one you have looks like you took it from a teenager.
Ultimate d-bag driving behind the reverse tricycle machine guaranteed
Plastic tub with 3 wheels.
The manual trans kills the fun.
What's wrong with wearing a helmet?
These things are so stupid looking lol
Until the Aptera ships. Solar, 1,000 mile range and looks like Jetson mobile.
But it's electric 😂😂😂
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 40 miles daily from the sun. I'm pulling for Aptera.
@@bmwloco 🤣😂🤣
Pass, I believe....
Crap
I like the Can-Am models better.
Can-Am doesn't make an autocycle. They make a trike.
Its a plastic three wheeled car that you have to wear a helmet in, no thanks
It's too big. It doesn't look nimble/quick at all. I'd much rather have a Can-Am Ryker
Easy fix for helmet, move out of overpriced, overtaxed and over regulated nanny state of CA. :) They don't want you to die because They need your tax money to redistribute.
Nobody thinks these are cool lol. They're for people that can't ride nktorcyckes.
Looks like two people designed it- one is blind and the other is ten.
I drove one recently. I am a Polaris fan, but this thing is such as waste. It's noisy, does not ride well, you get hot in it, I feel safer on a bike. I also have a Miata and compared to it, the Slingshot makes no sense.
What year did you drive if you don’t mind me asking?
@@burn1gotbeats It was this last fall and it was a new one, so 22 or 23
@@huronv9500 oh ok I was hoping it was a older model lol 😂😎. Thx u
When I see people riding those at a motorcycle rally, I have a tendency of yelling out that’s not a motorcycle.
I cannot stand those things. It's a car missing a wheel
I would rather have an actual motorcycle or a normal car. This is the worst of both worlds: You don't have the same comfort as a car and you cannot lane split (the only good California law) or easily find parking like you can in a motorcycle.
The plane is cool...the slingshot, not so much. These things are for people who crave attention. Look at me! Look at me!...Yeah, I look at you and think, "What a maroon"...(yes, it is a Buggs Bunny reference, not a typo.)
crap
Nope, 1986 Honda 250R is the ultimate 3 wheeled fun machine.
CRAP! What's even fun about it? It's too expensive, most places a helmet is required, still has to be registered and insured, has lousy features and amenities and is absurdly wide. Just buy a Miata convertible.
cool. you mean Colorado. grown ups dont where helmet.
To call these things hideous and pointless seems like an understatement
