I don't watch a lot of this channel, but I get the sense from other comments that WH uses Giulia for clickbait a little too much, so I understand the push back. In this particular meet tho, I feel like her story going into the last chance qualifier was the most compelling and her 3rd lift in the snatch made her the right choice for the thumbnail.

  • Give the winner her due, no disrespect to imperio but this is a performance based sport the thumbnail should be the winner not who you think is pretty but didn't perform. Am sure she will compete better in the future and that's when you should have her on there. This is what kills sports and minimizing the efforts of champions because of subjective standards.

    • Being an attractive woman who can snatch 85kg is far more rare, and dare I say more impressive overall, than being an entirely unattractive woman who can snatch 95kg. I actually think the opposite of what you're saying is true -- the sport should be trying to market its attractive female lifters and should push the other female lifters to look more presentable and attractive. Men's weightlifting has a natural advantage in that it tends to lend itself to attractive features in men. On the women's side, by marketing attractive female lifters and by showing that good female lifters can be attractive, (i) men will be more likely to watch and (ii) normal woman are more apt to say "wow, women can be strong AND attractive!". Keep in mind that "minimizing the efforts of champions because of subjective standards" can apply to women's weightlifting on the whole. For example, if I want to see just the best of the best at each weight, why would I even bother with the women's division at all? At the 2020 Olympics, the 3 medalists in 61kg (the lowest men's weight class) had higher totals than all but one female lifter -- not one weight class, but a SINGLE lifter, the gold medalist from China in the women's unlimited class. Why even bother watching if those are just substandard lifts? One reason is to see that attractive women can compete and be pretty strong.

    • It's just using a notable athlete to get people to click on the video. Regardless of attractiveness, no one who's seen a few viral clips of the Giulias on Instagram knows who Ri Song Gum is, and they wouldn't click on her.

      @AfferbeckBeats@AfferbeckBeats12 күн бұрын
    • @@Sajidov3 I mean come on by that logic being an attractive woman who can snatch 85kg on one leg is even more rare that doesn't mean the world needs to stop watching two legged lifters. Life isn't fair I get it some are pretty and strong some aren't, we apply rules to make things as fair as possible so that people can standout as much as possible on their merit. That's why we have weight classes. Attractiveness is subjective for the most part and even if it wasn't it shouldn't play as much of a role because no that's just how your born it's not something you worked hard for. The person in that weight category that won the event worked the hardest and committed the most time and took the most risks and approached it the best way but they won't get sponsors and they have to suffer in life because people don't like how they look, and for the fans of the sport we will never learn how that athlete became the best because our attention has gone to the shiny new thing. This isn't an attack on imperio! I really was rooting for her to qualify for the Olympics and her last snatch was epic! I hope she stays healthy and peaks perfectly for the next Olympics. This approach of using a "marketable athletes" by organizations has backfired so much even for the marketable athlete. She's probably going to get criticism over this and in the back of her head she might even start to think do I even deserve to be here or am I here because they like to look at me. She was completely in her head during the competition this approach ruins the athlete and the sport. The aesthetic based fitness has been completely ruined by this approach because in many cases the "attractive" people go into it knowing they will win because it promotes the sport, why compete if you know you wont even truly win the competition? It might honestly even discourage potential greats in the future, the risk associated with weightlifting is far too great to not be passionate about that actual sport and the process and if we are pushing the athletes taking that risk aside might as well cancel the sport. Weightlifting house will get it's clicks but progress will be halted.
