Son Young-hee competed against her younger teammate Park Hye-jeong at the last chance Olympic qualifier in a bid to secure the Olympic spot. Both athletes gave everything, attempting, and making, personal records.

  • Seb's point about these kinds of lifts not being called in certain continental championships is such an important point! many athletes going to Paris this year qualified through lifts that would never be accepted in other competitions. a very unfair system.

    • @@stevethea5250 . Women elbows are subject (contrary to men) to a great laxity, they can bend backwards when locked, so sometimes depending the woman it's hard to have a straight lock. laxity /ˈlaksɪti/ looseness of a limb or muscle. "over-stretching can result in joint laxity"

  • There are a few lifters who seem to have soft elbows on the snatch. Not sure why, most lifters seem to fail in a myriad of other ways but rarely do you see the press out called on the snatch. Maybe in the case of Son Young-hee her arms are short for her grip or just a genetic thing.

  • TBH I saw her right elbow not being locked during the first viewing of that lift at 127. I don't think it was subtle. It was visible in real time seeing the lift for the first time. For me that was beyond any doubt a no lift
