  • How about not putting the bait on the board, but hanging it from the lid on a little piece of rope, on the side opposite of the entrance. Something very fragrant. That way, you don't even have to reset bait very often. They'd go to reach the hanging morsel, and go off the deep end, instead of licking up peanut butter at the base of the board.

    • With the instructions that came with the trap, they suggest gluing a dog brisket to the bottom of the end of the ramp. Sounded good, but I didn't want to glue it, so I drilled a few holes in the end and used zip ties to zip tie the dog treat to the end of the board.

      @volvo09@volvo096 жыл бұрын
    • The City of chicago Department of Rat Control , is subject to a lot of political pressures from groups that are pro animal rights . A trap like this would subject to a lot of publicity and political heat from people who would feel sorry for the rats. This political pressure would be particularly intense if the trap was successful which I believe it would be. This is a solution best done on an informal and private level by individuals who keep out of the limelight. Unfortunate it has to be that way but that's life. As I said, I am going to pass this idea around.

It's clean, costs no electricity, practically works every time, and all you need is a bucket or a spare garbage can which the rats are predisposed to like. I really must recommend something like this for communities plagued by all sorts of rodents and pests.

  • Hey there Shawn, I got this trap then put a longer 10" plank on it. Now it can catch heavy rats to light mice they just go as far as their weight will hold. I also put peanut butter in an old tea infuser and hang it from the lid of the 55 gallon drum right above the end plank. So far they haven't even got a lick of the bait. I just need to find some other longer lasting attractant for when I'm gone for several months at a time. In a week I got 3 rats, and 5 mice.

  • Something you could do to prevent any bait on the trap from sliding/being pulled off the platform when the rat falls, is to hang a piece of bait from the inside of the lid just beyond the platform. Something like a pinecone with peanut butter or a seed ball...they should fall before they even get a chance to grab for it.
